    Excellent. Thank you. I’m reading a book on the crusades, and your video history is an excellent supplement.

    I would love to see this story continue - The Almoravid period of Al-Andalus seems somewhat understudied

    I have actually been in the Toledo Cathedral when I was an exchange student. Inside it was crazy how decorated it was.

    I'm not sure if this is just me or does something just not feel right about the "relationship" between Alfonso VI and the Moorish emir...

    • @RealCrusadesHistory
      @RealCrusadesHistory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It was an entirely normal political relationship for the time. Al-Qadir was a client to Alfonso, who served as a proxy for his own power. If you're reading something sexual into it, you're way off. Alfonso was married several times and had many children.

    • @magdaw3123
      @magdaw3123 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@RealCrusadesHistory I didn't see anything sexual to be honest. What I thought was that it seemed treasonous to ultimately give Al Quadir power in Valencia rather than giving itto your own person. Instead of eliminating a problem, he put it in another place. Usually this is considered a sign of weakness. IMHO

    • @RealCrusadesHistory
      @RealCrusadesHistory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's an interesting point, and I think it had more to do with what was possible for the time. A direct takeover of Valencia by Leon-Castilla would've invited action from the other Christian powers. In addition, al-Qadir had shown himself to be totally loyal to Alfonso, so in effect Alfonso would have control of Valencia.

    • @tinkywinky1238
      @tinkywinky1238 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@magdaw3123 On the contrary, it was genius diplomacy because al-Qadir was still an outsider who had to rely on Alfonso's support and couldn't go his own way.

      @RealCrusadesHistory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I agree. I won't be doing that again. I originally had a little joke in there, but I took it out because I thought it might mess up the mood.

      @@RealCrusadesHistory you should have kept it, it may have been out of mood, but not it feels like something is missing.
