    Thanks a lot Pulsar. I had the same issue on a Dell, Dual Boot Windows/Linux. Appended Linux Mint 21.2 Victoria. After a few days Linux didn't boot any more, after the grub menu. In my case it turned out the Nvidia driver [nvidia-driver-470] was the cause. I changed it to the open source driver [xserver-xorg-video-nouveau] and now it boots again. BTW, the open source driver [xserver-xorg-video-nouveau] was the default setting after installation, but the [nvidia-driver-470] was recommended. For several days I suspected the grub and wrongly I did a grub repair via live usb.

      Thanks for the update. I have tried to do a clean installation of Linux Mint on this laptop and it worked fine unlike with the dual boot issue. I think it is a graphics driver issue though this laptop only an AMD Graphics card.

    Should the Bios of the PC be updated to the latest version to successfully install the OS?

    • @PulsarTECH
      @PulsarTECH  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don't think it's a problem with the BIOS, and I don't think there is an update for this BIOS either. There's something missing, but I couldn't get to the bottom of it. I had to simply install only Linux Mint on this machine, and then it worked fine, but alongside Windows, somehow it didn't want to work.

      @@PulsarTECHshould the GRUB be edited in the proper way to get rid of this problem?

    • @boringboringboringboring
      @boringboringboringboring 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PulsarTECHupdating the BIOS often prevents Linux from booting,as I read at different forums,because newer Linux kernel should be installed for the newer version of the BIOS.

    • @PulsarTECH
      @PulsarTECH  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@boringboringboringboring I've tried various ways to edit GRUB but with no luck, I was still getting a flashing cursor. It could be the BIOS issue but when installed only Linux Mint there is no such issue, which kinda shows that BIOS is fine for this version of Linux kernel but when installing alongside with Windows it appears. Maybe there is some GRUB editing that needs to be done properly, who knows. Let me know if you find a solution!

      Try to run driver updates thru the terminal these commands sudo apt update and then sudo apt upgrade. If it doesn't find the proper driver, go the the manufacture website, see if there's a package available, download it then run sudo apt install "name of the package". Hope this will help.

      In recovery mod open up, update manager, you can find it in search panel hit refresh button in update manager and install any updates, then in the panel disable any external Applets you've enabled and reboot your system, it will boot normally.

      If you have only Linux Mint installed on the computer and no other operating systems are available, the Grub Boot menu is hidden by default. In order to get the Grub menu at startup, the right Shift key has to be pressed after switching on. Hope this helps!
