    Lol, love this guy. I have been washing my hair every other day for the last 20 years even when I was permed. I am type 4 and have been natural for 9 yrs. People would tell me, your hair gonna fall out, but I have always had long thick hair, except for the times I decided to cut it short, but it always grew back fast. People ask you what do you do to get your hair the way it is but when you tell them, they want to debate. Don't get it.

      Curly Coils79 20 years. That's pretty cool. I'm thinking about an every other day routine. How often do you deep condition your hair?

      loren r, so my hair loves protein. I DC twice a week in place of a conditioner. Once with a moisturizing DC that has a light protein and once with moisturizing DC that has a moderate amount of protein. I use a regular conditioner once a week. Doing it this way, I have found that I don't need to do any hardxore protein treatments for my hair. Hope that helps!

      Curly Coils79 What products did you use for your light protein conditioner, full protein conditioner and regular conditioner? Have they changed within the year? I’m looking for products that my hair will love and hopefully will be reasonably priced. Thanks in advance.

    Wow! This is the very first time someone has acknowledged that some woman style there hair twice a day and it's ok! I cleanse everyday, alternating shampoo and cowashing and my hair has never been healthier, and is growing like a weed. I did the big chop in April and had to return to get my hair shaped 3 months later, that's how much it grew... regardless of shampoo or cleansing conditioner I condition every single day, and usually restyled my hair late in the day, almost like havjng second day hair on the first day, I either rinse my hair with water and rinse some contioner through to get some softness going, or I spray my hair until it's drenched, as water is yiur friend, and apply some product over the product I already have in my hair from earlier in the day and again my hair is no longer breaking, shedding is almost non existent and here's the best part, I am in my late 40's.... my hair has bounced back and is thicker than most 20 year olds.... Dickey, keep talking, you are a rare gem to woman with curly hair......

    I think a lot of women think daily co washing is too much. I find that hilarious, when in fact, water moisturizes the hair. When I started back daily co washing, I noticed a difference right away. I feel like this,. If you can jump in the shower everyday, you can co wash your hair everyday.

    Thank you Dickey for making these short yet very informative videos!!!! I recently started doing everything you said for my type 4 hair and WOW what a difference!!! This includes starting off with a hair cut!!! My hair has turned around in just 2.5 weeks and I've paired my haircare to ONLY what MY hair likes. No more trying this or that because that what's popular on social media, while my hair is looking and feeling tragic...I would cross state lines to have you do my hair, LOL. I live in S.Florida...any chance you would visit us here or open a salon down here!!! Thanks again for this truth and please continue, you are very appreciated ;)..

    These tips are awesome! I've had dry hair after doing a twist out during the week and thought that it was normal. Now I know that I need to do my hair at least twice a week: wash and then followed by a co-wash. I watched your other videos and realized a co-wash is not what I buy, but what I do. Keep up these awesome videos.

    Ok I hear what he is saying in this video and I have seen the results of what frequent wash and go’s do for type 4 hair on my own head. However, I have very thick (can’t grip with one hand) and long (waist length) hair. It takes about 2 + hours to dry with my hair diffuser. I can only do this at night 2 times a week. Also $$ factor, I use premium curly hair products such as hairrules and devacurl. After like 4 washes the bottles are almost finished. Any suggestions cuz this becomes impractical and unaffordable once you are dealing with hair past your shoulders.

      J-Curls85 Not my Mother’s hair products are excellent and their conditioners are like $8.99 and you get 16 oz. You can buy them in Walgreens, Ulta and I think Walmart. They have no silicones, parabens, synthetic dyes or other ingredients that are supposed to be bad for hair. The slip is amazing. I’ve tried all their conditioners and they leave my hair super moisturized.

      Joy Deja King thank you soo much! I’m going to look and see if they have these in Canada. Cuz the struggle is real! Now if I can figure out how shorten this cowash and dry process that would be amazing!

      J-Curls85 My pleasure and hopefully they do. And yes the drying process is a nightmare!! I finally gave in to sitting under the hair dryer for 20 min to speed the process up.

      I have type 4 hair and my hair takes hours to dry. I make my wash n go last for 2 weeks and it stays moisturized pretty well, if it starts to feel dry I simply remoisturize with water, oil, and sometimes a cream. Daily wash n gos are too much manipulation AND time for my kinky hair. I don't know how anyone with my hair type has time to do that nor how that affects their hair from constantly detangling it everyday. I feel you have to do what works for you.

      J-Curls85 i’m not sure if you’ve found a great and affordable conditioner yet but i’m in canada and recently found Giovanni conditioner products in Winners etc. and like them. I have a full head of thick 4A hair and they sell large bottles for maybe $11

    Ok. I have a question. With what we have been taught about natural hair (avoid like the plague mineral oil and silicones) what do you recommend or what are your thoughts? I noticed your styling products have silicones but the cleansing product doesn’t have sulfates. Sulfates are needed to remove the silicones in order to properly moisturize the hair strands later.

    • @1960genius
      @1960genius 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I had the same question until I read the ingredients on Hair Rules Curling Cream. I believe the second ingredient is mineral oil. Mineral Oil is not a bad product if you are co-washing every day. It seals in the moisture that is currently present in the hair. The downside is if you apply a mineral oil based products and don't cw daily, your hair will be dry.

      Great Question! I want to know too!

    • @Artemis583
      @Artemis583 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not exactly accurate. Amphoteric surfactants and even some well formulated nonionic surfactants can remove silicones depending on the type used. Sulfates as laypeople understand them are anionic surfactants and should not be used on textured hair, ever. Noxema is sulfate free and people use that to remove makeup on their faces, esp if they have dry skin. Similar deal here.

    • @Simplylockd
      @Simplylockd 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Artemis thanks for replying but to my understanding you are right. Depending on the silicone it may removed by cowashing. But the silicones in hair rules are dimethicone and amethicone (spelled something like that, lol) and those are the two most hardest to remove without sulfates.

    • @alfonsca
      @alfonsca 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If you’re co washing and cleansing as frequently as Dickey recommends, you won’t need to worry about buildup, the silicone pal for destruction.

      I wouldn't wash and go everyday personally, but 2/3 times a week should suffice.

    • @Artemis583
      @Artemis583 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hooded dryer is not direct heat.

    • @JoyDejaKing
      @JoyDejaKing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Heat damage comes from hair not being properly moisturized before making contact with heat. If you’re cowashing daily then your hair should never be dry. To me that’s the point he is always trying to make in his videos. Textured hair constantly needs moisture. Naturals who complain of having extremely dry hair are usually afraid of water.

    If you wash your hair daily, how often do you use shampoo? Should you cowash sometimes during the week? How often can you use shampoo that contains sulfates?

    • @zheahra
      @zheahra 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      CMJ It depends on your level of activity. Do you workout? How are you using hair products and the amount of products you use in your scalp? How often do you sweat in your scalp? Other factors are your health and any ailment you may have.

      Thanks for your reply! I was curious about his response, since he has developed a method for hair care/cuts/wash-n-gos...etc. I have been natural much of my life (relaxed for a time, but natural again for 6+ years) and I am comfortable with my routine. For the most part, I use sulfate free shampoos 1-2 times a week and cowash when needed. I deep condition 3-4 times a month. Wash-n-gos are my style of choice, because they are quick and easy for me. I air dry when possible and use a hooded hair dryer or diffuser on low heat/air when it's cold outside to dry my hair part of the way before putting it in a pineapple at night. I like my hair more in it's natural state and find that it is even easier to care for in it's natural state.
