E92 Power Steering Reservoir Replacement + Fluid Flush! QUICK!

  • In this video I will be showing you the process to changing the power steering fluid and reservoir. The reason we change the reservoir is because it houses the filter for the power steering system which can get clogged over time. I used CHF 11S fluid for my non active steering setup. You only need one bottle of fluid to do a drain and fill.

    Those BMW hose clamps are killer without the crimping tool. Took forever to figure it out but I was able to get it on with a wrench and a screw driver flat against the little bump in the middle of the clamp area and the raised notch on the other side.

    thanks for video, I read and watch video's they many break the clamps to remove them from the hose. I am glad that you verified and confirmed that the hose clamps are reusable. I read there is a special plier that is design for that special clamp.

      Yes the clamps are reusable but you need the special pliers. I tried reusing the clamps with a regular set of linesman and needle nose pliers but neither got the job done. It was very frustrating. Happy wrenching! 👍

    Thanks Calvin. I'm going to be changing out my rack for an m3 rack today, and figured I might as well flush my system & replace the reservoir dogs.

      @@Tomtsu bought a perfectly good m3 rack from a rear-ended m3 at a local scrapyard for $340, and tie rods & boots, I forgot how much they cost, but just look up oem 335i/135i new on fcpeuro. A new ps reservoir & chf11 fluid were cheap. ($40 fluid & $25 reservoir, both of which will outlast my ownership of the car, )

    for my hyundai azera i learned very late that this forgotten steering fluid reservoir have built in filter! & when it's clogged it causes poor stability or some times dangerous drive! i was pulling my hair to figure out the cause unstable steering my car! by the way all you need to drain the fluid is from the return pipe of the reservoir then turning the steering wheel repeatedly both ways untill it drained out

    Nice Video. One problem though, you said you were going to flush the system, but you only drained it. What is the DIY process for completely flushing before putting in new fluid? otherwise you can be left with metallic sluff that will continue to ware the system.

      The way I do it is remove the return line from reservoir and plug up reservoir. Route return line into a pan. Then turn wheel (front jacked up) until res is empty, add fluid, repeat until clear fluid comes out.

    How did you get those hoses off so easy, the bottom one is stuck on mine and I can’t seem to pull it off!

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine were very tough to get off too. Try twisting the reservoir while holding the hose to break the grip it has on the plastic. Or put a slim screw driver down the edge of the hose to separate it from the plastic fitting. Good luck!
