    For all of you out there who are having a hard time hearing the differences between the two microphones, listen to what I have to say. After listening closely to the Blue Snowball Ice, the sound quality is VERY good and clear, and there is no distortion in the higher levels of volume. After listening to the original Blue Snowball, the sound quality is great, except for the fact that there's a small amount of distortion in the higher levels of volume. The mid-low range capability on these two microphones is outstanding. To wrap it up, buy the Original Blue Snowball if you want the versatility of cardioid/omnidirectional and don't mind small amounts of clip distortion. Buy the Blue Snowball Ice if you want a standard Cardioid, which has crystal clear audio quality.
    Overall Choice: Blue Snowball ICE.
    Have a nice day! :)

    Kinda wish you tested with a pop-filter. I have the Snowball and it does help me a lot having one on, but overall great comparison and video. I was curious how it compared to the ICE.
    People claim the Yeti sounds better than the Snowball, and while that might be true, I've never had an issue with RF interference with my Snowball .. unlike the Yeti.
    I've long since upgraded from my Snowball, but it still sounds great for the price. Using something like an RX5 noise filter makes it quite usable for podcasting, even in home environments that aren't exactly quiet. I have a Shure SM7b also for example, and expensive pre-amps to power it, but damn -- I could still get away with using the Snowball for many of my applications. It's far easy to carry around for travel too and I don't mind lending it to friends now and then who need a mic.

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do not test any device that does not come in the box. If a mic comes with a pop filter, I will use it. If it does not, I will not. Otherwise people will watch 10 seconds of my video, assume it comes with the pop filter, not get one, and bitch in my comments about how I misled them. Hahaha. This has happened many times. So I try to make sure the videos represent the exact performance you'll get if you buy the mic.
      I also run an SM7b as my podcasting mic, but am currently giving the Rode Procaster a few weeks on the mic stand prior to comparing them.

    • @steve_seguin
      @steve_seguin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough. I guess that makes sense, but I'm just personally of the opposite school of thought.
      There are a lot of inexpensive microphones out there that just need a tweak, additional foam for example, to become so much nicer sounding. The Snowball sounds so bad without a pop-filter, it seems almost unfair not to mention it.
      At the same time, one could say the SM7b is a horrible microphone, as most TH-cam consumers buying one will not have a pre-amp capable of driving it properly. A $2000 preamp does not come in the box, yet that plays a big role in its sound.
      Anyways, I totally respect your view there. It makes sense and the lack of a pop filter being included/built-in is a flaw in my eyes. Perhaps you could of called them out on that? dunno.
      Looking forward to more videos.
      Cheers.

    i actually really liked omni-direction capture of that amp. i guess it captures more of actual room reflections behind it so it makes it sound more like amp in the room; closer to how you hear it with the ears. sure the bass response weaker and overall noisier, but definitely valid micing

    Blue snowball is better for streaming and gaming, whilst the iCE is better for productivity and voice talking. I have the blue snowball (ORIGINAL) and it sounds pretty much the same as the snowball iCE. I had a budget of $100, so I prefer the Blue Snowball (The black one) for both since it can do both and it sounds better with a pop filter. Cheap is not always the best thing, but if you really want the iCE, Knock yourself out. (It means go for it, not literally knock yourself out) This is just my opinion, and if you agree with it I think you will have better voice quality.

      The recording quality is exactly the same . The regular one has a higher output level . . Plus if you are into recording . You should record in the lowest level you can to prevent the preamps from picking background noise and digital hiss . And then boost it with Normalize .I've used both and they are both good though

    • @SwedishGameNerd
      @SwedishGameNerd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought the regular Snowball myself since it got more settings but I'm actually not totally happy with it. I think it records with a pretty low volume level but I guess it´s possible to increase the volume in post production depending on whar recording software one is using. ICE is probably a good buy because it's cheaper and my guess is there isn't much difference in the quality.
