About Smash being boring right now, I would say a lot of that is a mix of Ult being a old game, its meta, and the lack of NA majors. Part of the reason why I would vastly prefer a new smash game to a Ult Deluxe is just to get away from Ult and try new stuff, add mechanics/new universal moves
I don't think Smash is dead or dying, I just think the community has very polarizing opinions on what's boring and what's entertaining (and there's not much majors going on lately). I just think the game is in a bit of a cryogenic state because a lot of people's favorite players aren't doing as well as they used to. We still have hype sets, hype players and hype characters, I just don't think smashers should be so hostile towards things they don't like and act so harshly (even though I do see how ridiculous G&W, Steve and Sonic can be super silly).
There's a few things that led to the current state of things: 1. The more interesting characters/players arent invested into the game as much or have other things going on (Leo, Light, Marss, etc. all not locked in for fair reasons). 2. Tournaments are struggling to run without viewer investment because the game is dying/becoming a very uninteresting meta. 3. We lost a lot from Panda and definitely still feeling it. Massive community blunder and its wild how some people still think it was the right reaction.
I'm sure Nickmercs knows Trans people exist , we practically see them everywhere, even here in Texas. I think what he is referring to is the ideology of believing you can change genders, like saying men can get pregnant, that is a bridge too far. Honestly when I speak to someone Trans I just call them by their name (gamertag). I don't get down with the pronouns. I don't hate anyone, I just don't agree with a lot of stuff pushed. Unfortunately people will write me off as a bigot or transphobe for saying what I know is common sense.

I do want to note that generally smash has A LOT more majors than any vgc afaik. theres plenty of moments where smash has multiple majors on the same weekend. street fighter? maybe one or two a month max. I will admit though, fgc having much better netplay leads to high quality online brackets like 2-3 times a week, so that equalizes it a bit

I played ultimate hardcore for the first 5 years of this games lifespan. But sooner or later so many of the groups of friends I’d practice with would quit on move on to the next game. I kept playing and trying to find new groups but sooner or later they’d all quit. As much as I would love for this game to have a resurgence of players I feel the meta of this game has been squeezed so dry. Maybe I’m wrong becuase I have seen so many characters like Corrin and many other underrated characters climb ranks in the meta. I just wonder if it’s too little too late.

As a huge fan of both the melee and ultimate competitive scenes, I’m surprised that you guys were against the idea of sponsoring a melee player. Melee is immortal and will never die. The scene has been around for 20 years and the fan base is huge. I’m not sure why it’s that surprising that LG would want to sponsor melee players? I don’t see how it’s a waste of money either lol.
