- Here's my first sail in my Jeanneau Sun Fast 37. A sea trial really but could have taken me to Scotland had I not discovered two leaks that needed fixing. I will be back for round 2. Some music on three clips which are only clips themselves and I hope are considered fair use. Thanks to Paul Williams and Keiron at Dinas Boatyard for their help and Paul for the video clip of the launch.
She is looking good, a few things to fix but lovely. Fair winds!
Thank you, You know how it is, fix things on a list then start a new list. I got away again and will put another video on here soon. Am keeping watch on yours too. All the best
Yes, I know how it is! I was meant to be heading towards the Atlantic by now, but hit by a storm, metal supports for the tiller cracked and Genoa destroyed! I have had to go back to a marina to fix things again!! Fair winds my friend.
I hope you get everything sorted and get to do what you plan.
Good to see you back out sailing and filming Mike 👍
Thanks James, I'm back in the boatyard trying to take the shaft coupling off so I can fit a new seal, struggling a bit. I bought a new exhaust pipe too. Will be off again soon and another video of course!
I sold my boat 2 weeks ago, she’s gone down to Pwllheli. Looking to buy something this winter. Roll on next season for me.
I will be advertising this one after my holiday.
Hi Mike, you got to have a little sail in her, she's looking good. It'll be all right on the night.
Just have to dig into the bank account and some work and will have another go. I was pleased over all, something like the Sigma 36.
Hi Mike. The Sun Fast is looking great! What a shame though that you had the leaks and a pity you had to return and be hauled-out again to fix. Fair winds and better luck for the next passage. All the best
All sorted now Mark, new exhaust hose and prop shaft seal. Up around Oban now, been good but the rainy weather catching up now. Seen the Clipper race yachts. Hope you get some good sailing.
Great video, Mike! She looks great on the water, too. Cychod, de? Trafferthion!
I've already got the hose and seal and a shaft anode I forgot to get. Soon be off again.
Good to see your back in the water Mike, wel done super job, at least, ps i sold my boat now campering with my van, cheers happy sails keep looking for your storys best regards Reinier
Thanks, I shouldn't have expected everything to be 100 percent, I'll sort things and be away again soon. Hope you have some good van time.
Great to see you back on the water, the SunFast looks similar to the yacht we were tacking across back up the Straits last Sunday afternoon ? Narnia is heading off to Scotland end of June for 8 weeks so hopefully see you up there 👍
I had no idea that was you. I saw a Westerly with a keen sailor tacking up against that wind and I thought he was thinking he was a lazy sod for motoring! Nearly two hours from Puffin to Menai Bridge near the islands. Well done to you. I got a shot of your boat at the beginning.
I'll be off again north asap. Hope I recognize your boat next time. If wind suits, will do a long leg to make up for lost time
@@mjcooke2sailingmostlyMy wife is a bit of sadist and loves tacking up the Straits with me doing all the rope work ! We had fun trying to keep ahead of you although Manda was worried she was going to hit you a couple of times !
I was doing around 1800 revs. I sped up eventually to get out of your way but concern over the seal and exhaust pipe kept me slowish. That distance should only take an hour motoring. You know the Straits better than me, I've done it in my old Invicta years ago with little choice and alternative being a Fare Gota petrol engine maybe 10hp. Draft on that one 4ft, the Jeanneau 2m 7cm. Circa 7ft.
I do hope you that don't mind me messaging you on your channel regarding an 'off topic' matte outside of your . My question is do you know someone who might skipper a boat from the South coast to Conwy with me. I don't know anyone personally or how much they would charge. Obviously a factor that I need to consider before deciding if I can buy the boat and get her to my home port. She is a Hunter Legend 38, well equipped and appears, subject to inspection and survey) ready for the trip. Myself and one other would be available to crew. I am asking because you seem trustworthy and more into the sailing fraternity than me ! Best regards, Simon.
Hi Simon, That sounds a good boat. I don't know of any boatless sailor who may help you. I'm away in the Western Isles sailing the Jeanneau (she's advertised for sale at the moment). I have to get back and work on other boats. I have the Bavaria 37 too and will have to sell that if I can't sell the Sun Fast.37, (I have only one cradle for two boats!).Respond to the Sun Fast ad on 'A Duck' website and contact me that way if I can help in any way.
@@mjcooke2sailingmostly Busy man, thank you for replying to my message x
@@mjcooke2sailingmostly Just to clarify, I wasn't been cheeky, I was just enquiring if you know of any paid 'delivery skippers' who might be looking for a job. Enjoy the Western Isles, hope you have a fab time xx
Hi Mike, were you single handed on this trip? I'm wondering what a sunfast 37 is like to single hand ..
Yes, just me and myself. It's been said that 37ft is the optimun size of yacht, this one is over 11m so marina pricing may affect people's choices these days. Handling at sea is fine, I always find docking the most challenging, single handed. Setting things up in advance helps a lot. This boat sails very well for me with reefed main, and putting in the reef in anticipation while still anchored or on a mooring helps. I've done 9kn with reefed main on the approach to Ardfern in sheltered water. The Evolution 200 autopilot does the sailing at sea.
@@mjcooke2sailingmostly thank you for the quick response, very helpful.
