Midnight Fight Express does look awesome! Even better than a John Wick movie. Haku The Robot has really nice colour palette imo. Souldiers pixel art platform combat looks fun. Patrick's Parbox looks fun for a puzzle game but Wilmet's Warehouse really sticks in my mind for that kind of game - especially if you have worked in a warehouse! Puzzle games. The Witness probably made the biggest splash in recent years, and it had all the problems of every puzzle game. It makes sense to solve this puzzle like this, or like this, or like this, or maybe twenty other ways, and I'm standing here trying to read the developer's mind. Or, I could go play a fun game.
I have to put in my 2¢ on the knight witch, but I’m not sure what to say, because I didn’t play it very long. The craziest thing is that I didn’t stop playing because I didn’t like it, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to pick it back up… geez, how do I explain this without spoiling the story? Let me start off by saying that I was more excited to play this than anything else over the last few months. And the fact that the devs got me to play it knowing there is a random card battle system involved, is nothing short of a miracle! I don’t like cards, they have no place in my life, and I don’t want them within a five mile radius of my games. PERIOD! Yet that wasn’t even the thing that made me stop playing, it was the story. Maybe I was just feeling a little extra sensitive that particular day, but when I started learning about the deception in some of the main characters, and how their entire system is corrupt, and the majority of the populace are unaware… well, it just hits a little too close to home, and brought up many of the same feelings I get in real life when I try to show people what a joke this world is, and how essentially everything we think we know is wrong, and how we are most likely heading towards something pretty bad in the not too distant future. It’s already too much to deal with in real life, I don’t need these uneasy feelings during my entertainment time. I’m sure I’ll eventually pick it back up, but I just can’t right now. My only gripe when it comes to gameplay is the cards, it would be better to just pick certain spells to use with specific buttons (same thing with astral ascent, the cards just get in the way).
Was not expecting WeirdRPG to be at the top (or on the list at all, honestly), but it makes sense with the reasoning you give. I like what you picked for this overall, though it's a real shame for some of these like Moonscars that they didn't sell better.
Is Moonscars any good on Switch? I've been playing on xbox series x and the game is good, fun and all, but I the controls have been a major issue for me. A lot of the times the game simply don't recognize your actions. For exemple casting a spell and moving the left stick to either side to move before the spell is finished will leave your character standing still because the game sometimes don't recognize the imput, so you have to wait the animation end before telling the game where you want to go. A lot of times that made me die or put me into annoying circunstances.
Clemmy before I forget to ask, is there any way you could send me links to all the videos you’ve ever done? I know it’s a pain, but TH-cam is messed up where they only let you go back 3 years, and I’m searching for an indie game from probably around 2015 or so. I’m pretty sure you were the only indie based channel I was watching at the time, so it has to be something you highlighted (it was an isometric action/rpg possibly roguelite, and had a graphic style somewhat similar to a cross between hyper light drifter, and fountains. You were referring to it as a Zelda style game, and the only image I remember was the character in a forest, I believe he was lying down next to or on a rock (if you can guess what it is from that description, you really are the indie game king!!!)
channel didn't exist in 2015 :P I can't easily generate a list of links to ALL videos made (youtube is not helpful in that way). any more specific details? colour palette maybe?
For some reason I seem to remember it looking like pastel colors. A grey rock, green shrubbery, maybe a purplish hue around the rocks… and for some reason the word path is in my head. I don’t think it was pathless, but it’s been a few years now, and it could just be another word that reminds me of the word path… it’s so frustrating!!! Also, there’s a good chance it was introduced as a kickstarter, steam green light, or go fund me I suppose. Because there was very little info besides a short clip of the character in the forest. And I’m pretty sure it had good animation if that means anything.
I’d say that the thumbnail sums up this year pretty good, a lot of amazing Metroidvanias , and there’s no sign of it slowing down! Souldiers might be my favorite metroidvania of all time, but it’s kinda hard to compare it to the best Metroid or Castlevania when I’ve had 20 years to enjoy them, and only a year of Souldiers.(speaking of metroidvanias Clemmy, we need to have a little talk with the folks at askiisoft and see if they will either consider doing a metroidvania spinoff or go that route with the sequel to Katana zero? I’m probably in the minority, but I didn’t think the gameplay fit the graphics/art style. I was expecting something like “Ninja gaiden”, “ninja spirit”, or even “Revenge of shinobi”, but it was more like “out of this world” on speed! And I kept finding myself wanting to stop playing to appreciate the gorgeous graphics because unfortunately you can’t really do that while playing… that Ninja spirit clone is actually really good by the way, can’t wait for it! Hey Sega, can you please do a reboot of revenge of shinobi? It’s definitely long overdue!!!

@@ClemmyGames I don’t know, maybe I’m crazy, but Souldiers just had perfect animation, the difficulty was just hard enough, level design was better than anything else I can think of right now. And sometimes developers hit a sweet spot where the world feels like it really exists, and all the characters look like they truly belong in it. The speed of the characters, which is always something I look for, is also spot on.
