So happy for Petra! A well deserved win against the most in form player at the moment and a more than well deserved tournament victory. Always a class act and a favourite to watch of mine for years. I hope she gets more big tournament wins as the season progresses, to still play at this level after most top players from her generation have faded is incredible.
Nah, she will probably lose early at slams like usual. Hasn't gotten past Rd 4 in 3 years.
To be honest, i preferred Elena to win this match (just because she is my favourite tennis player after Iga Swiatek), but i can't reject the greatness of Petra Kvitova! Strong mentality, effective playing style, amazing career and most of all decent person! What a pity she never became world no.1, the way she still is capable to win titles at this age is impressive! Today she showed more class and experience than Elena and deservedly won! Happy to see her coming back in top 10! And about Elena - the future is ahead of her, i believe she will have many moments like this and with gaining more experience and confidence one day to be in the place of Petra in the moment. Her winning streak was beautiful for watching! Now both get the deserved rest and can't wait to see what they will do on clay!

The double Sunshine is not an easy one ;) Both Alcaraz and Rybakina looked exhausted in their respective matches after these successive runs.
I think they had an issue with the longer than expected match times and hydration.

@@TY-vd7fs she’s a great player on any surface, but she’s stronger on faster courts than slower courts, a pusher she is not. and whilst shes been successful on clay in the past, she’s not young by tennis player standards and won’t want to be getting into regular extended rallies at 33 years old.

Petra at 33 beating inform player of season. Just imagine peak serena with peak petra vika Maria with their returns and game would've done to iga, sabalenka and Elena who are at their peaks. 2 slams are not enough for petra

@@deepakmahajan170 I beg to differ. It's pointless speculating about the outcome of matches between past players in their peaks with current ones. I could easily imagine Iga from Rolland Garros 2020 defeating all the players that you mentioned. In fact those matches would probably be very tight and any of them could win on a given day.

Oh it’s just I’ve been following her for years now. Ever since I was little! Sooo happy to see her win another tittle. Let alone a 1000 event!
Great match 👏🏻 but I wasn’t shocked by the result. Kvitova is more dangerous off the ground; she’s more powerful and the better shot-maker. Elena’s biggest weapon is her serve but once Petra gets her serve back deep, the advantage quickly turns to Petra and Petra’s serve is also strong so it was always going to be tough. Kvitova’s never lost a final in her whole career after winning the first set. I wasn’t sure Petra was going to be consistent enough today, but she was 👏🏻 Hopefully this is the warm-up for her third Wimbledon Title 🙌🏻🏆

@@dimitria8493 Folks seem to forget how tricky it can be to play a lefty! Lots of shots Rybakina looked to be caught by surprise, as if she wasn’t used to the way the ball was returned!
@@dimitria8493 I didn’t know for certain, but I noticed all the previews I saw backed Rybakina to win comfortably. Rybakina has been in better form, but game-wise, unless Kvitova has a really streaky day then this match up is good for her so I predicted she’d win in two if she was consistent enough 🙌🏻
@@kriskanei7369 True, but I don’t think that was solely due to her being lefty, Kvitova’s shot-making is ridiculous and caught her off guard. Other girls like Sabalenka, Osaka, Keys hit as hard as Petra but they don’t have the same natural shot-making ability. She’s an anomaly, she’s got ridiculous power with great hands. This match up suits Kvitova.

Still got it. Kvitova showed she can beat anyone when she’s playing like this on a fast surface. I’m not sure she’s consistent enough to get back into the top 5, but she will pose a big threat to Elena’s title defence at Wimbledon.

That tie break was a mental marathon. It’s great to see Petra winning after all the unfortunate stuff. I thought for sure Rybakina with more confidence would win that. However, this was not Rybakina at her best. It’s clear shoulders or something are bothering her. Like when we saw Federer not play his best and years later we learned he had a massive back problem or something else.

The WTA titles so far this year have been pretty evenly split, no one is really dominating as such. Not Rybakina or Sabalenka. Think we are all too rushed in hyping up certain players.

This fragment of the video shows that Elena Rybakina lost because she thought less creatively and relied more on her power. Elena's blows were not dribbles, not in corners, not along lines, but most of them flew either at Petra or in her direction. Elena did not have shortened blows, while Petra acted very coolly, smartly and creatively.
Petra's victory makes my heart so so happy. Kudos to her for still working so hard and beating decade younger most in form opponent inthe final to capture such a big title!

Such a similar way of playing, but Petra is much more accurate and dangerous. Ugly of Elena for not congratulating Petra a little more heartily on her victory, Petra was always a correct and fair player.
Yes, am also a bit disappointed in Elena for that, especially since she was so nice to Sabalenka after losing a closer 3 set GS final this year. Looks like Sabalenka's screams don't bother her.

I honestly don't get why people are so surprised kvitova won. Did you see her performance against an unbelieveable alexandrova and an insane cirstea? That was crazy. Everyone could see that rybakina was getting tired as the tournament went on and she wasn't playing nearly as good as she was in indian wells. Sure she served insane but you can't serve bot your way to the title every time lol. Honestly, fair play to kvitova, a hero on and off the court. It didn't really seem like she could be back especially after australia where she made error after error, but she found the fight and form in indian wells (and even gor her mental toughness back), and finally found her game in miami. Congratulations petra, well deserved!
Right!!! I was shocked to see how heavily Rybakina was the favorite. Very crazy when you consider Petra's record in finals. If Petra makes the final, it means she's in 🔥 and is very difficult to stop in the final. She proved that yet again here and she actually out-powered rybakina from the baseline, and out-served rybakina with placement angles and accuracy. She also exposed rybakina's lack of variety

Weldone Petra. Nerves were finished. Once again, she didnt play lights out tennis and go for crazy winners. She played controlled with bigger margins and was willing to stay in the points longer. Had she adopted this earlier in her career, she certainly would have won more GS titles

I remember back in 2011 when she won Wimbledon and wta finals, Kvitova was talked about the player who was going to be the one to beat. Even though over the years she has had inconsistent results, there is no doubt when she is on, she can hit anyone off the court. But she’s also a true fighter on the court. I would’ve loved if she won 2019 AO and received the trophy from her friend Li Na but it would be nice if she wins another grand slam. Such a humble player with a lot of firepower
But never became world no. 1 cuz of caroline wozniacki. Karolina pliskova could be better cuz she has become world no. 1 even though she has no GS title

I love both of these women. Petra will always be one of my favorite players, along with the Williams sisters. Now, Rybakina is also one of my favorites. It's been a long time since my two favorite players met in a final, so I was very happy with this outcome. I would give anything to see them play each other in a Wimbledon final!

That 1st set tie-breaker was a...back breaker for Rybakina 😋 It seemed to take the wind out of her sails, Kvitova coasting to victory. Solid tourney for the veteran dropping only one set. Well earned.

Huge congrats to Petra. Honestly I didn’t expect her to beat Rybakina, who is in such a great form. I think Petra simply had the tactical advantage. Also I noticed Rybakina kept playing her favorite backhand cross court into Petra’s forehand to put away,being a leftie. I hope Elena learns from this error and corrects it next time they meet. Congrats also to Elena. She has played some great tennis so far this year. Wishing both players the best of luck for the rest of the year.
Actually, Sharapova did it (keeping playing backhand cross court) to beat Kvitova so many times in the past. It’s a good strategy to play an aggressive lefty sometimes. The main difference is the consistency of her backhand.

One of those days when tennis wins. Rybakina played one of her better matches of the tournament (reduced her UE and served 12 aces), and she was really trying, chasing balls that she usually lets go against lesser opponents. Kvitova was simply superb: her ratio of winners and unforced errors almost 2:1, and great selection of shots and strategy. She was the better player today and deservedly the champion. Power tennis at its best.

Super happy for Petra, great win! Rybakina is also a great player, but I have noticed crafty players are hard for her, that is why I miss Ashly Barty so much. Barty could be easily No, 1 again cause her tennis puts these one-dimentional players in big trouble!

Congrats to Kvitova, she really deserved to win but as a big fan of Elena this one was hard to take. She had her chances in the tie break but could not just provide them (felt like the old Rybakina). Kvitova were better the whole match and much better in the clutch moments. She had so much more power and accuracy in her strokes and Elena made so many unforced errors today and that was really disappointing to see. Knew the match was over after the tie break but the way she just capitulated in the second set without any fight was also really disappointing. Maybe she was tired. Either way Elena is on the right path and will continue to rise. Can't wait to see her play again!
Ah well - saw her with the Kinesia-tape at the semi-final again. I think Elena needs simply some rest. It's her first season where she reaches more semi and finals. Give her time. You can't win every time. Important thing is that you learn. This is Elenas learning year. I know everyone is expecting wonders once you are starting to win. But even winning needs to be learned. A process Iga is currently running through and Petra learned years ago. Anyhow - I like both players. Today the more experienced one won. Congrats to Petra Kvitova.

This match is about power vs power and Kvitova is far more consistent than Rybakina. I'm not surprise about this result and hopefully Kvitova can continue her resurgent.

I so wanted Elena to do the "sunshine double" .She has had an amazing 2023 thus far and will go from strength to strength as the year goes on. But Petra was amazing today and fully deserving of this victory. As an Elena fan it is real hard to feel too gutted when she was beaten by the better lady today.
She did blow at least one set point when in the tiebreak after saving the first set initially. She could have been the winner if not clearly better. Very small margins like with the Alcaraz match yesterday
