- People assume that the demons in the gospels are fallen angels, but all the traditions, including the biblical ones, associate the demons with the spirits of the giants born of the transgression of the Sons of God in Genesis 6. Check this out!

Not a loss, people. Paul said “to live is Christ, to die is gain”. He’s glorified as we speak. And if we were able to ask Heiser, “would you like to comeback and continue your ministry?”. I have a feeling that Heiser would say something like, “guys and gals, don’t you know I’m glorified? How can you want me to comeback into a perishable body….while I’m enjoying all the promises of God?” “And by the way…..I’m no genius! As Paul said, I was the chief of sinners. I just did my homework, the work prepared for me before the foundation of the world. As the Reformers said: Soli Deo Gloria”.
@@spindoggytheexplorer2915 Not aware of anyone in particular. I think that Mike's legacy will be in those who he has influenced to look at scripture less dogmatically which may be able to break us out of systems of beliefs that choke the word. That being said, I don't agree with Mike on everything. But, If I'm studying a book of scripture, I'll always go the NakedBible podcasts and download his transcripts because they're a good place to start.

Indeed. I owe my Masters thesis to his work, and the rest of the work I've been involved with since then.
@@earlysda Yes. it is Biblical. The Nephilim are the giant offspring of the angels who had sex with human women. If you can read between the lines, you can figure out that Eve had sex with either Helel(Lucifer) or Samael and begat Cain and Able. Which is where human blood lines were infected with evil traits. This explains a whole lot on why things have been done the way that they have been.
Only later did Eve give birth to Seth, which noted that Seth had the likeness of Adam. Apparently Cain and Able did not have such a likeness to Adam.
This and the Book of Enoch explain leaps and bounds and gives us the why, where most of the Bible is like WTH is going on and makes no sense at all. This knowledge resolves most if not all of those questions.

I've only come across Dr. Michael Heiser about 6 months prior to his passing, watching him on some videos (one of them was Trey Smith's videos). I knew the Holy Spirit put me in his path, and I soon bought "Demons" and really connected with a lot he was teaching. It's a shame that the Lord took him Home so soon--I have still so much to learn from him (and I recently found out Mike could have been my mentor at Liberty University once I got into my research courses for my PhD in Bible Expo!😣) , but thank God we do have his books and videos to glean from. Can't wait to meet him when we are all at HOME with the Lord!🙏❤️✝️🕊️

I don’t think people realise what a funny guy Dr Heiser was. I always liked how he injected some humour into many of his discourses. Truly missed.
He really did have a wonderful dry sense of humor that I think most people didn't pick up on because they were distracted by the fascinating things he was saying.

Chuck Missler. He's not with us now either, but, his works are great. I'm doing a study now with his 24 sessions on Revelation. Both Michael, and Chuck, were intelligent, and down to earth. He was pretty much the only evangelical Christian teacher/ thinker that I really respected. Dude had courage. The stuff he taught was not mainstream and could have easily kept him from getting jobs after all those years of college.

Having gone through Leviticus on his podcast, when he said “forbidden mixture” my mind was blown….
That's one interpretation. The other, much more prevalent throughout the Levitical materials is that unclean is to do with the dead. Unclean spirits are also called daimones (demons) which also included in popular culture to which the gospel writers were writing, human spirits of the dead that are not at rest with God. See the parable of the unclean spirit, which wanders through dry and arid places (places associated in cosmic geography with death).
Made me wonder, Would a person be condemned if there was a giant way back in their lineage? Would their spirit then also be unclean? How would a person would know whether there was a giant in their ancestry? Much of the world could be like that. But God's desire is that all would be saved so I'm thinking the unclean is because of their conduct.

It would have been great getting to see Dr. Heiser sit down and have a discussion with Dr. John Bergsma and Dr. Brant Pitre. Three scholars that seem to be on very similar wave lengths with a lot of stuff and aware of the ancient context of the bible.

@@kenammi355 thank, I'll check those out. Being that he's a Protestant, I definitely take what he says with a big grain of salt. Not that Protestants get everything wrong, but his stuff can definitely get weird. I'm intrigued by his theories and haven't found anything definitively wrong about the Nephilim/demons hypothesis, but I'm also definitely not sold on it and submit my judgement to the word of God spoken through His Church.

To bottom line it:
He taught post-flood Nephilim so that's not a biblical doctrine, he just picked up one line from an "evil report" from centuries post-flood by unreliable guys whom God rebuked and ran with it.
He taught that demons, "unclean spirits," are the spirits of dead Nephilim but did so via a merely linguistics based argument by picking up folklore from centuries, if not millennia, after the Torah and ran with it.
As Christian we can’t come at people with a matter fact type mindset. Peoples hearts have to right to soften by God. To non Christians we will come off as arrogant and not loving. Only God can give us a loving heart.
Your comment is a matter of fact type mindset since you're telling all Christians what to do and how to do it.
We are not called to control people’s reactions/feelings. We are called to speak plainly, with boldness, while gentle and respectful. These are attitudes we posses not what we are to control in others.

I guess there is a subset of people that will bow down when someone uses false authority bassed you better do what I say, or you will experience my displeasure type gimmicks but it just drives any self respecting person away.

While we don't have the recorded command of God not to marry them, we can infer it, because many times later throughout the Bible we see injunctions of God warning his followers to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.
A great deal of hypotheses but not much actual Biblical proof connecting disembodied spirits to non-demonic spirits. I suppose we’ll have to wait to see in the end. I do know that any and all must obey the victorious risen Son of God. Of this we can be sure from Scripture. His title and His name are our shield and sword.
There is a great deal of “proof” of this in the Bible. And it’s supported by all of the traditions surrounding the Scriptures.

@@kenammi355 I don’t disagree with you on principle, but the problem with something being biblical or not is that the Scriptures were written to and for people who had an understanding of the world that we have lost. In this case, it is VERY likely that the ancient Hebrews understood the Nephilim and what was happening there. So Moses didn’t need to explain it. They already knew it. In my case, I don’t need someone to recount the entire history of the US every time someone is writing about an event that occurred in our history.

They lived pre-flood, they didn’t make it past the flood, end of story-until, of course, many centuries later some unreliable guys made up an “evil report” about having seen them and they were rebuked by God.
Literally 100% of pop-Nephilology, and some scholarly Nephilology, hangs on one single sentence spoken by those guys.

Um, they're called "shedim" (שֵּׁדִים) in the Hebrew bible, Deu 32.17, Ps 106.37.
See also the LXX and Targum of Ps 91.6 (or 90.6 depending on the numbering), and Tobit 6.8,16, etc.
I never noticed until recently that evil spirits don't seem to be mentioned in the Bible until after the flood.
They are tho. Fallen angels are also evil spirits too, just not the only ones. Others are the spirits of the nephilim which remain here on earth. So in a way they are still descendants of the fallen angels, just not directly angels themselves. There are Also just demonic powers etc which are much more vaguely described and like the angels were never mortal beings.

The Nephilim, which weren't immortal became the evil spirits we hear about after the flood. You never hear about evil spirits messing with people until after the flood. Angels (good and bad) appeared to people before the flood and told them or showed them things but never possessed people. The fact that they took on physical form to marry and impregnate women indicates that they aren't spirits. Evil spirits weren't mentioned until after the flood, indicating that it was the spirits of the Nephilim which were not immortal and could die but could not enter heaven.

@@DixieCrusader-X- the spirit is physical. And yes the actual word used for both demons and angels is the same word outside of the English. It could also just refer to any form of spirit. What you seem to be confusing is a spirit which was once a mortal being, for a spirit which was never a mortal being.

Extremely helpful!! I have been involved in cross-cultured missions and encountered lots of demons. When I am casting them out, they often say things and behave in ways that are so strange to me. I looked into the Bible and couldn't find the explanation. Then I was introduced to Dr Heiser a few years ago and began to listen and study intensely his lectures and teachings. Now I have developed a much clearer understanding of who these spiritual beings are and why they behave the way they behave. It helps a great deal because it provides a solid theology to substantiate my ministry. I miss Mike so much...

I'm glad he points out the Old Testament roots of fallen angels, their offspring, and the disembodied spirits. Because I've heard some people criticize him as if this is his original idea or an opinion. What Heiser has done, which is clear if you read his books and look at the extensive bibliography, is research and compile his findings.
We know from the Holy Bible what ancient followers of God knew: that fallen angels had nothing to do with the Nephilim.

Ok, I’m missing some info, obviously. So the Sons of God came down and created their own progeny: 1/2 fallen angel, 1/2 fallen human (Nephilim). God cooks their geese in the Flood. The Sons of God are sent down to the abyss. The spirits (of the dead Nephilim, demons) roam the earth. So those creatures found by the 12 spies when they made their reconnaissance mission to the promised land, are the result of a second incursion by another group of fallen Sons of God? Didn’t they learn their lesson of the Flood? Thanks guys for any info you may be willing to share or point me to. Soli Deo Gloria.
Some say second incursion. But some say the wives of Japeth and Ham carried the mixed DNA as all giants stem from the progeny of these two after the flood. Unknown. South American myths say some survived the flood by tunneling underground. Not sure.
The giants werent killed in the flood. According to 1 Enoch in the sentencing of the 200 watcher angels, they were forced to watch their offspring kill each other and then the watcher angels were imprisoned. That was around the time of Jared.
In 1Enoch ch 12 it says the watchers taught enchantments, and cuttings of roots, then impregnation. So the giant offspring might have been a mixture of angel dna and the cutting of roots.
In the book of Jasher it says that mankind also learned how to mix different species of animals together and thats what caused the flood.
In Jubliees its says thay after the flood Canaan found the writting of the watcher in a cave. Its possible that the instructions for mixing dna and cutting of roots were part of the writtings that he found.
In the conquest of the promise land with Joshua, they found gaint people and gaint grapes. Those instructions could have been from the writtings Canaan found. The human giants werent as big as the half angel giants so its probably just the cutting of roots and not angel dna mixing. These giants were probably normal humans that had been altered. The dna mixing could explain why whole towns had to be destroyed and God forbid the genetically mixing of beasts and plants.

A lot of people think Nimrod (Gen 10:7-10) may be where the giants came back in. It is strange that Nimrod is listed separately from Cush's other progeny. Also "mighty hunter" may be a clue. The LXX in 10:8 actually says "He was the first on earth to be a giant". In addition, Josephus referencing Nicolaus of Damascus, says some people escaped the flood. “There is a great mountain in Armenia, over Minyas, called Baris, upon which it is reported that many who fled at the time of the Deluge were saved; and that one who was carried in an ark came on shore upon the top of it; and that the remains of the timber were a great while preserved” (Ant 1.3.6 §§ 95). Josephus, a Pharisee, elsewhere, had no problem with the fact that people other than Noah and his family survived the flood “which was the reason why there was no greater number preserved, since there was no place to fly to” (Ant 1.3.5 §§ 89). Pseudo-Eupolemus (prior to 1st century BC) goes even further: “Eupolemus, in his work ‘On the Jews,’ states that the Assyrian city of Babylon was first founded by those who escaped the Flood. They were giants, and they built the tower well known in history. When the tower was destroyed by God’s power, these giants were scattered over the whole earth” (Praeparatio Evangelica 9.17.2-3. He names a giant who escaped the flood as Belos (Praeparatio Evangelica 9.17.8-9; 9.18.2. Also 1Enoch has most of the giants being killed in internecine war prior to the flood. The giants also appear in Bashan with Og Num 21:33; 32:33 and Deut 1:4 which makes sense because Bashan is near Mt. Hermon where the Watchers descended (1En 6:6).

All I know is my mother was possessed by a demon that looked like a frog, from working the Ouija board. I had put a cross around her neck and the demon took it off. It literally took the cross off as she slept. She awoke hearing a windstorm in the house, and felt a "pop" in her breastbone. She said a frog with red eyes was in the corner of the room, and it glared at her. She said she looked at the pillow and the cross was off her neck, with the chain linked together. It doesn't sound like this man had the real life experience that I had. 🐸

Like many Christians, I grew up thinking that demons are one-third of angels who rebelled with Lucifer and were cast out of Heaven. (One-third of the angels remained loyal to God, and the other one-third were the angels who voluntarily left Heaven to mate with human females.) In reality, there's little biblical evidence for this idea. Heiser's theory that demons are actually the disembodied spirits of Nephilim/giants makes much more sense. Knowing that this idea is rooted in Second Temple Jewish thinking adds to its credibility. There's just one thing I have a question about: if demons are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim, why did their souls not be sent to Gehenna/Sheol along with other wicked souls? Is it because only pure human souls can be sent to Hell, which means that unclean spirits, being a mixture of humans and angels, are cursed to roam the Earth?

I usually do not differ with Dr. Heiser about most of his teachings, but there are distinct scriptural references that ties fallen angels to demons. God refers to Satan as the "Devil" and a term that is used interchangeably with "Demon" which means "Fallen One" or "Adversary". The idea that demons are somehow separate entities, derives from the belief that they are the disembodied souls of the Nephilim. A falsehood, as only God has the power to create souls. So, demons and fallen angels are essentially one and the same.
Dr. Heiser was credentialed and experienced but not infallible, his Nephilology wasn’t biblical, and he tended to create more problems than he solved-see these articles for examples:

First, the church translators used the word Hell for two different locations or realms. The fiery pit that Satan and his follows are cast is the Hell. The big one. No one has been sent to this one yet. There has been no judgment day yet. Satan and his followers are still free and not bound. All people, after they die, their spirits go to either of two separate realms. I call them spirit prison or spirit paradise. Depending on their acts on earth while alive. Here they are still aware, still conscious. Christ went and taught to theses spirits which is found in the Bible after he was crucified. After the judgment everyone will be resurrected from both. Some people mistake the phrases “we are saved by Grace only”or “we are saved by faith”and “faith with or without works” are about entering heaven. I share my belief that solves the controversy. Everyone will be resurrected who received a body on earth. This is the reward for keeping their first estate, following Jesus instead of Satan. The followers of Satan lost their first estate, they did not receive bodies, they cannot be resurrected. The reward and inheritance for obedience is covered by Grace. All will return. Being saved by acts should be understood as “reward by faith and acts”. This is what judgment day is for, even though everyone is saved by Grace, there are additional rewards given to those who were obedient, so being “ saved” at this juncture is about the additional rewards. The Elohim were angels who were on the earth 50,000 years ago trying to teach primitive humans many things including true God theory, animal husbandry, smithing, health/germs, and agriculture. The primitive humans did not want to work in the dirt. They wanted to hunt. That is why Genesis says there was disagreement between Cain and Abel, because one worked the soil (which produces much more food than hunting) while Cain hunted.

There is no such thing as an evil spirit. The mediums think that ghosts are spirits, this is not correct. True spirits are a type of angel. No angel is made evil or angry. They are all made to do universal work but rarely they rebel.

I read your book "Demons", but I don't see where their origen began in Genesis 6. What happened between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 is more tenable to me. In fact, I don't think anybody can really know exactly when their origen actually began. It could have been millions of years ago, or even longer. The Bible doesn't give us a lot of information, but we do have some hints from scripture. It's only conjecture to try to pinpoint it. Your book was very interesting though.

It probably has something to do with what we do to ourselves. It's probably because we have the ability to distort our own thinking and distort our own desires/purpose, etc.
I just can't help but have this feeling that I wish so bad so sin ever took place. But God has a plan and he is infinitely wise. So there has to be a good reason in his eyes for it all. And that probably has to do with the fact that God's justice, in both mercy and in wrath, will be displayed to us all and to himself for all time.
Perhaps the whole point of being a created being is for God himself to reveal the holy and infinite dimensions of his character.
God created us without sin but the first humans were tempted by the devil and fell. We may have been without sin but we also had free will and we misused it.
The problem is that no one can explain where the spirits of the Nephilim came from. They didn't come from God's realm like we did, and they weren't the spirits that were cast out with Lucifer, so where did the come from. (Let alone the question of how the Nephilim line continued after the flood if they were all destroyed.)

Not human since, for example, they witnessed the creation of the Earth, at the very least (Job 38). Angels are always described as looking like human males, we were created “a little lower” than them, and we can reproduce with them so, by definition, we’re of the same basic “kind.”

Seems to me that people confuse a word for its root. Thus, we are told that rapha are in the "underworld" of the dead but that has nothing to do with the 100% human Rephaim tribe. Also, some people appeal to what Pagans said about their version of Rephaim and actually incorporate that mythology into the Bible.
How is it that when Heiser was alive, he sees biblical history after the introduction of Adam and Eve, and nothing before, as between the time God created Heaven and it occupants, and then the introduction of the earth and its own heavens, and all of its then occupants. Occupants who were divided between the angels and the sons of God; the sons of God who are like us, otherwise, how could they have "sexual intercourse" with women and had children. Hense, Heaven is divided into 3 sections, where God has His thrown, the section where the angels occupy, and the area that is like earth, where the sons of God lived, until the earth was created. It was when the earth and its heavens were created, that brought problems, and a history that Heiser never discussed, because he was a "trinitarian."

Heiser is massively overrated.
We know for a fact from the new testament that rebel heavenly host spirits can possess or influence humans that rebel against God.
So what is more likely?
1. God allows evil spirits to take on human flesh... making the distinction between millions of human rapists throughout human history, and evil spirit imposters literally impossible? (And the incarnation of Jesus as nothing reserved for Him alone, but something that is accessible to any heavenly host spirit that wishes to do evil?)
OR...
2. The "sons of God" in Genesis 6 are merely the first examples in the bible of evil spirits who posses/influence humans negatively, who have already chosen to rebel against God, and refuse to repent? (Like HUMAN warriors, who were referred to as "mighty MEN of old," who had much success winning and/or leading battles to steal other groups land and women... pridefully collecting whatever they wanted.... Then handing these men over to evil spirits who want to do evil things to human women through the possession of evil men)
For anyone who thinks that scenario 1 is MORE LIKELY than scenario 2, I want you to ask yourself these questions tonight...
• How would you know if the next stranger waitress you meet at restaurant wasn't secretly an evil spirit who manifested in the flesh, simply to poison you because you are a Christian?
• Why doesn't evil spirits manifest on a regular basis to push someone down the steps for fun, or freak out people at crucial moments in their lives?
• Why don't evil spirits manifest in the flesh at crucial moments in history to sabotage things in their favor?
Nothing like that ever happens because Heiser is wrong.
The reason why satan had to enter a rebel Judas to betray Jesus is because evil spirits can not incarnate... Only God can come in the flesh.
And if you think that you can prove the ability of heavenly spiritual beings to manifest physically by giving examples of "good" angels in the bible appearing physically.... then please give me even 1 example of that.
I bet that every single example you give, could simply be a human messenger that God sent (Probably God had a loyal ministering spirit to posses/influence a human believer for a specific purpose).

You made a claim that Heiser is right, but gave no evidence.
I actually like the work of Heiser, but do think he has missed the point of demons actually being three different types of beings as per the original meaning of the Greek work daimon...
1. Gods of the nations - the heavenly beings, fallen sons of God, who were assigned over the nations as per Deut 32. These aren't the fallen beings that were judged at the Flood of Genesis 6.
2. Intermediary spirits between the gods and humans. These would have included angels in the Hebrew Old Testament, but the word angel only came about as a result of Septuagint translators wanting to make a distinction between spirits from Yahweh, and the fallen spirits working for the other, fallen gods.
3. Spirits of the deceased humans that were not at peace with God upon physical death. These were the unclean spirits, unclean because of Levitical associations with death, as per Numbers and other books of the law. This is often overlooked because of a post Reformation approach to the afterlife, which sees everyone as either being in heaven or Hell. But that itself comes from a poor understanding of what these words meant to the original writers that used a variety of different words to describe such places: Sheol/Hades - the intermediary afterlife, where all, including Jesus, go for initial judgement to determine which region they go into for the start of their afterlife journey - whether it's staying in the place of judgement, or being carried by the angels across the chasm / River, into the region of hades known as paradise / 3rd heaven / Vale of Abraham.
The spirits that haven't been made clean in Christ and carried over into the peace and rest of God in the paradise realm are those that remain unclean spirits that wander in dry and arid places seeking rest but cannot find it (Jesus speaks of these unclean spirits in the parable of the unclean spirit). They seek to be embodied by their own means, which includes possession of other, living, humans, to continue their lives without recourse to needing God.
This is why the story of Legion makes so much sense when you read it in the context of the unclean spirits being deceased human warriors that have entered a man who was originally practising a mourning ritual that involved necromancy, and opened himself up to the infestation of vengeful spirits. It also explains why they sought to be embodied in pigs (they weren't deceased Jewish warriors - no Jew would be seen dead in a pig 😅). The pigs died due to the revenge of the human slain on the nearby Roman legion that marched on pork.

@Buddz69 you're talking about different testaments. Daimon and pneuma poneros (evil spirit) aren't necessarily the same thing. Daimones can be evil in nature, and can be non-human spirits, but evil spirits (pneuma poneros) are generally non-human spirits.
To understand scripture properly, one needs to read it in context, through the eyes and language / culture / history / theology of the writer - rather than inserting our own meanings over the top.
