I have no reverse gear, if I put the vehicle in Drive it will shift normally to 3rd gear, then go into i assume failsafe mode and will stay stuck in 3rd gear even from a stop light, until I restart the car. If i put the car in manual mode and accelerate quickly and avoid lingering in 3rd gear more than a second or two, i can shift into 4th and 5th manually. fluid was clean no metal chunks, minimal material on the magnet. codes i get are P0708 been coming and going past 2 years. new range sensor didn't clear it, then i got p0734, after manually shifting the car the past few days codes P0732, P0733, P0741 are now present as well.
May I ask if you happened to have this kind of issue with this transmission: 3-4 upshift is harsh (a series of short regulars jerks as if you drove over a rough surface). It only becomes apparent after you warm the transmission fluid, say after driving 7-8 km (5-6 miles). Magnitude of these is highly dependend on the position of the throttle (light application = nearly no jerks during upshift). Ocassionally there's also short signle jerk during downshift, also between 4th and 3rd. Apart from these transmission is shifting OK. Fluid was supposedly replaced by previous owner at 90K Kms (56K miles), seems ok, not burnt, correct specification (these are using Mitsubishi SP-II/III fluid). Any help will be highly appreciated. The car is Hyundai XG 300 (3.0 V6)
Usually, there is a code associated with erratic shifts. If not then you more than likely have a clutch or Torque converter lining failing. You can try installing a friction modifier fluid to see if that helps. May even try a reprogram. These units have solenoid problems too. First, try the fluid... if you need an ATRA you can search here www.atra.com/ShopFinder
@@atra-automatictransmission1300 Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there's no diagnostic codes of any kind, that's what makes the diagnosis more difficult. This leads me to suspect the friction elements or perhaps the torque converter. I believe these transmissions do not engage lock-up unless certain temperature of the ATF is reached.
Thanks for pointing out where the ball bearings are. 👍
(the Hyundai Service Data only says not to lose them…..gee, thanks for the help, hyundai🙄)
Hi Bill, thank you so much for the training. It helped me a lot to solve a problem. God bless. 🙏🏻

Hey, did you ever find out what's going on with your transmission?
