Restoring a fortepiano for the Carl Bechstein Foundation. 11 Finding and dying silk.

the silk of the music stand was faded and torn. We looked for new silk woven in the same way and tried to dye it in the same colour.
The nameboard had the same silk behind the ornaments, which we also replaced.
Since 2019 the Carl Bechstein Foundation in Berlin is building up a collection of historical keyboard instruments, reflecting the history of the piano. All instruments will be in perfect playing condition and in this film-series you'll see the whole proces of a restoration, starting from a total wreck. This fortepiano was built around 1795 in Vienna by Ferdinand Hofmann (1756-1829).
From this restoration film series are two versions, one with a German voice-over and this one with an English voice-over.
