APTV has exclusive pictures of former U-S President Ronald Reagan.
Nearly three years after disclosing that he had Alzheimer's disease, the 86-year-old Reagan is still driven to his office every day in Los Angeles.
In a glass and chrome office building on the Avenue of the Stars, one fading star still lights up the lobby.
Looking fit, but older America's 40th president shows up for "work" as he does almost every day.
Office staffers say the former President is in good shape though media reports indicate that he is now in the middle stages of the memory-destroying neurological disease.
Although Reagan has slipped increasingly from public view as his Alzheimer's disease has advanced he glides through the Fox Plaza building in Century City, Los Angeles.
He holds court for four hours everyday and still plays golf on weekends.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"He's a wonderful man. Comes in every day - comes in at ten leaves at two. Always waves, always says hello, always looks fabulous. Always has a smile on his face- he's just great.
    SUPER CAPTION: Kathleen Kurowski, Concierge
What does he do all day?
Staffers say his activities include photo-opportunities with fans, meetings with friends from his hometown of Dixon, Illinois, and those from his days in the White House.
Ronald Reagan also signs autographs here, allows school groups to visit, and sees Republican campaign managers.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"My understanding is that I have a few minutes to meet with him in his office; express my appreciation for everything he's done for freedom around the world,. Hopeful I get my photo taken with him. That'll probably be the end of it. I will be happy for the rest of my life and I'll die a happy man."
SUPER CAPTION: Steven Thomlison, Campaign Manager for John Breslow for Republican candidate for Governor of Nebraska
Reagan has maintained an office on the 34th floor of this building since 1989, soon after vacating the oval office.
Nancy Reagan is said to visit him often at the office and once had her own office here as well.
Fans meanwhile, still seem elated to see him in the lobby or get a smile and a wave from him on occasion.
And he seems to enjoy the attention.

Sad. Reagan was gone at this point. He wasnt Reagan anymore. Only in body. His smile is gone, his eyes look vacant, he was confused by the escalator of all things. He reminded me of my grandpa that had alzheimers before he passed. When he had it in the late stages, he walked around like Reagan here confused-looking and blank

Dude, there's some major Monday morning quarterbacking in your comments. If he looked like that as president on his way to meet Gorbachev, you wouldn't be making those comments. He wasn't "confused" by the escalator. He just wanted to make sure he didn't trip. Plus, the woman being interviewed after the footage of Reagan describes Reagan in a way diametrically opposed to your "analysis."

@@Pharoset No monday morning qbing required. Ive been around enough alzheimer patients to know. This was 3 years after he announced his diagnosis. He was reaching the middle to late stages at this time. Even his wife and kids confirmed so. @@Pharosetno hindsight or Monday morning qbing required. I've been around enough alzheimer patients to know. He was in the middle to late stages at this point. This was 3 years after his official diagnosis. His family, doctors and aides were doing this as a routine to keep his mind on a routine, of course he could still talk some, no one said that, but at this point he didn't remember being pres. Nancy and his kids confirmed in 96 that he was slipping quick. Of course ppl in the interview are going to talk nice about him, but he was gone at this point.

    • @Yobbie72
      @Yobbie72 6 ปีที่แล้ว +55

they weren't for appearances sake. The former President lived 15 minutes away in Bel Air, and this gave Reagan an opportunity to get out of the house every day. Routine is important for those with Alzheimers, and this was for him, not for anyone else. He'd just putter around that office, sitting at his desk, looking at picture books....he wasn't doing any work. But it was good for him.
