lol good question. well in any case door handles or not if the battery is dead your not going far. one of the mods i do for this reason is install a release for the hood behind the grill its an easy mod. in addition to that. i install a hidden button under the mirror. i should go through this in a future video installing a remote entry system.
One trick I like to do is to leave the door lock at least on one side. Connect the arm on the lock to trip the door latch not the lock since locks are kind of pointless with shaved handles. Having the key lock actuate the door latch gives you a fail safe for when the car/truck battery is dead. Then again solar charger to keep the battery charged helps at least as long as the remote has power.
lol yea that wasn't very smart on my end demonstrated without gloves, i do use gloves most times however its a bad habit of mine hate gloves lol however i hate burns as well, so yea wear gloves lol

Use panel bond all the time in the automotive shop to put on beds and door skins. Didn’t think about that for shaved doors like that you don’t have to remove metal or deal with the rust from welding.
Sorry for what I know must be a goofy question. But, how do you open the doors when there are no door handles (grin)? Can you show us a finished product?
i knock down the adhesive, skim with tiger hair "waterproof" knock the tiger down, filler then glaze you will be well beyond the patch feathered out, in addition etch prime any bare metal spot
Does the panel adhesive method shrink overtime? I'm my experience with fiberglass work, it can shrink and create a line around where the filler was applied over time. Does this panel bond do that?
No! It great stuff. Most new vehicles use it . Trucks for example use adhesive to attach bed sides. Can't butt weld using it, so overlapping can be a problem is you don't cover your joint completely. Water intrusion = rust. .

Eric Jones Better idea than what most of the knobs here do... they take the door handle off and hang the opening rod out of a hole near the window... effectively leaving your car unlocked at all times

You didn't show every one that the other patch you cut out had the opposite profile from what you needed on the other side. Should have marked your pattern in the upside down position.

If you want to finish welding faster and finish up faster, you can use a soaking wet shop rag to keep the area nice and cool.

gearing up to shave the doorhandles and hatch on my Mk3 golf, gonna be consulting this vid again for sure.
When you were done whwith shaving the door... What system did you use for unlocking/locking/opening the doors?

I prefer gas however i use flux core in a pinch, enjoy tig welding more than anything

You know the door has a cut out for the plastic bump strip? Can I just fill it with bondo or would I have to add metal in like the door handle?

Just bought the door kit for both doors. My one & only concern is the hole after removing handles.

If it's a fairly common car, the easiest thing is to buy another door and replace it.
I always had to weld a couple tacks after panel bond.. does sem not recommend that anymore?
