Levy three years ago was like: I knew I was better but I knew the game wasn't over, stressed myself out watching my opponent and lost.
Levy now is like: I knew I was worse, but the game isn't over, remained calm, played fast and accurate, psyched my opponent out, drew and feeling good.

That’s a nice narrative, but that’s one sample is almost never representative of the trend.
Edit: This comment seems to be getting a bit of hate so I thought I’d explain myself.
I disagree with the notion that he has had this character change. Levi admits he panics sometimes (which is human) in chess, he said this in his last video. 9:39 is when he ‘panicked’ in this game (he didn’t panic, however, he was flustered). This is to show that he is not as confident as the comment claims. Levy claimed to have ‘panicked’ twice in the video beforehand and has acknowledged he was flustered as well. If I offended you or Levy, I apologize.
The point of this comment was to assert that he hasn’t had some big ‘character change’, it was not meant to demean Levy in any way. In fact the very first thing I acknowledged was that *he is improving*. I don’t think he changed his personality that much apart from his continued playing and studying of positions.
My opinion comes from watching other videos analyzing the game, not Levy’s, so if you feel annoyed at me to write I comment, please watch an assessment on one of his games from another source.
My point was to stop saying stuff that doesn’t affect the game, as a psych minor, I feel I have experienced the phenomena enough to dislike it strongly.
If you disagree, that’s ok 👍. I urge you not to degenerate yourself to making assumptions about another person over words on a comment on TH-cam (of all places), but you are your own person.
I may have misconstrued my point based on how others interpreted it and for that I can and do apologize for any language that alluded to my tone, anybody’s opinion, or anything else.
If you have a point and would genuinely like to discuss or share your perspective with me, I would be happy to do discuss with you. I am only a Class D player in 1 min and Class C in 10, so I could have gotten lost in the ‘chess’.

The way Levy explains his game recap is very clear, as a 2,000, these recaps really help in chess vision, what are you supposed to look at, How to know if your idea is good and safe, how to identify weaknesses, evaluate positions and threats, if the position is safe.
These recaps help shape my thinking process. And could definitely also help beginner's thinking process get better.

Completely agree. I'm a former 1900 long retired and the recaps and breakdowns are honestly almost entirely what is returning my interest to the game. I'm long past my chess prime but small nudges push me into understanding without feeling like I've lost my ability, and without feeling patronised. Granted this one was particularly messy but the way it was presented made that part of the narrative - we were confused along with him.
I came for the cheater content but I've stayed for the breakdowns.

This is awesome to see Levy, the character development is real! The fact that you're not beating yourself up over certain mistakes anymore is a huge mental step, and you seem to be having more fun playing than in your old recaps. Listening to Levy after Hikaru is a wild difference in interpretation of the moves. It is awesome to hear the perspectives from an onlooker and the person who played, coupled with both of their history together and their statuses in chess as a whole. Informative stuff.

i think the channel getting to learn from the greats, plus the confidence from coming all the way to 5 million subs has really improved your confidence and your chess game. you were always a great player i think any im is great at chess. but getting all the love from your channel, learning crazy lines opened your vision and your confidence has grown a lot and that allows you to be more free at the chess board. go levy go.

I actually also came up with that idea. You mentioned that his attack also weakened his own king. If you can get the double stack you can confidently attack the king and possibly checkmate. That A4 idea was a brilliant move by you especially considering t he situation and the time usage(only 40 seconds)
