I actually like that big mom has this characterization. In my honest opinion, she's more nuanced and interesting than Kaido who comes off as one-dimensional.
Kaido so far doesn't have a flashback dedicated to him. Oda always uses those flashbacks to get us to understand the villains reasoning and point of view. BM started out as a one dimensional power hungry villain, but after the flashback we discorvered she is just a spoiled child inside of a monster. So far Kaido's motives seem to be about his legacy, considering his anger toward his son because he doesn't want to follow his footsteps, his desired to die an epic death, his jelousy for dead legends like Oden and WB, and the fact that he expened 20 years preparing for this grand finale shows that Kaido cares a lot about his legacy.

She’s destroyed entire towns because they DIDN’T give her food, this town gave her food when she was most vulnerable and took care of her. How isn’t it obvious that Big Mom would be angry about such a thing? She’s a person with emotions that are very clearly motivated by food.
The problem isn't that she's angry, the problem is that she somehow equates this to Kaido and his men not having any morals. Big Mom being grateful and angry at what happened to the town is good for her but Kaido's men didn't get any food from Okobore town, they aren't indebted to the town in anyway so BM saying they are "the bad guys" essentially is just a really convenient way to introduce a possible end to BM and Kaido's alliance.

Big Mom's choice actually makes sense from a character standpoint. 1. She is a child 2. she is obsessed with food 3. her liking Otama correlates with her childhood, and her time in the orphanage. From a plot standpoint, this means Luffy is not Ready for a Mano y Mano with Kaido.

Momo didn't feed Big Mom, Otama did. It fits big Mom's character. Luffy defended Rebbeca because she gave him food. Luffy and Big Mom have that parallel between their characters so that's why I believe this works.

Hog was scary as hell when he wanted to be, and would seriously mess up anyone he didn’t like, especially when they appeared to threaten our nieces and nephews, but I swear...if Hog hated you, but you gave him some food, suddenly you and he were best friends for life (as long as you stayed cool with the nieces and nephews, of course).

I wish this "Mother Mode" was shown earlier on Whole Cake Island. One way it could have been done is that every family on the island has obese spoiled children because Big Mom over-provides for them. But once a family doesn't have children anymore, Big Mom stops caring and neglects said family. Thus, many families on the island have a dozen kids for the sake of keeping plentiful provisions coming to the house.
But it was shown. She was walking down mad and saw a group of her younger children and her mood changed to a sweet mother. The other conditions is that they interacted with her she was also mad about the people in Oraboka town because they were also nice to her.

Big Mom was literally introduced and portrayed as an OBVIOUS hypocritical psychopath that would destroy entire nations over food. This personality was consistent over several hundred chapters. Her actions from this chapter were insurmountably reasonable and true to her character. Perhaps it will move the arc towards a "suboptimal" path (in terms of story telling), but its definitely not BS.

27:30 the chapter name is "the code of sweet beans" so her code of honor starts with food and ends with food she can destroy a country for that, or make an agreement to save a country if u give her food prime example Fishman island there is not a single plot hole in her decision, she can betray anything and everything if it is not related to food
But there's no consistency. She was willing to destroy entire countries but this is where she draws the line? How does that make sense? And Kaido dropping Onigashima probably would've resulted in Okobore Town being destroyed but she was ok with that. Also, this moment came completely out of nowhere - if this was established much earlier than it wouldn't be an issue but to do it this late in the arc, when the stakes are this high doesn't sit right with me.

Let me play devils advocate. If we're talking about the characters goals and motivations. Kaito is a suicidal and just wants to start a world War so he can die. Big Mom wants to unite all species on the world on whole cake island. Look at how Big Mom treats the residents of Whole Cake island aside from her hunger fits and then how Kaito treats the people of Wano. That's clearly at odds there. So in that sense, what Big Mom did there isn't that strange or unexpected.
I read that whole BM sections and honestly just felt like it's fine. KOL obviously in his entertainer mode, but if you think about it it makes sense. People give her food -> she likes them / won't hurt them

Lol. The difference between Momo and O-tama is that Otama and Kinemon's wife gave Big Mom food even tho they hadn't much themselves. It is just written in Big Mom's portrait and Luffy alike that if you give food to either one them, you are good person in their eyes and the impact of amnesia makes that memory with O-lin even stronger. Besides it's not like Straw Hats are forgiven. Only Nami and Usopp are because they took care of O-tama. Big Mom have business with Kid and Luffy right now.
I have a theory about why Hera is so damn powerful despite only being born. Zeus and Prometheus were both created by big mom when she was a child, their fragments of her soul are fragments of when she was a child. they grew up and got stronger but never at the rate big mom did but when in contact their souls show a much greater force since they connect to big mom. Hera, however, was created with the soul of a mature yonko meaning she has a soul with the same powerful wavelength as big mom and it gets even stronger when big mom acts alongside her. this effectively means prometheus is also subject to being sacked for a new fire if big mom actually notices this fact.

So to learn that someone killed everyone and burned he town down, why would she not get mad? Of course if a member of thst crew was right next to her, she woukd punch them. This is literally consistent with Big Mom’s character and not out of left field at all. We’ve also been shown early in Whole Cake Big Mom being nice to kids. I think joy boy had been right. Big moms going to be the friend of the straw hats in the end. And the clues have been there the whole time. She had been portrayed as a villain by omition of her true goals and feelings. Partly by oda and partly by herself with lies and deception on purpose to create her fear factor, so her powers are effective on anyone she might encounter. Big mom is an x factor still. So I'm not even half surprised. We have a long way to go with her still, but I think she wants luffy to do better. She was disappointed at whole cake island that luffy was not stronger. Its like she was expecting him and wanting him to advance in some respect. So there is motivation we are supposed to not know about yet. And we all knew she would or will betray Kiado at some point. But I think she might not be just switching sides right now. She might still want to fight luffy. We shall see. But I think whole cake was a test set up for luffy by big mom for some unknown reason. That she secretly wants him to pass for whatever reason. She outright says so from what I remember.

If not she could pursue her own side mission now that she no longer wants to help kaido, maybe trying to capture robin as she said to kaido earlier. Kaido so far doesn't have a flashback dedicated to him. Oda always uses those flashbacks to get us to understand the villains reasoning and point of view. BM started out as a one dimensional power hungry villain, but after the flashback we discorvered she is just a spoiled child inside of a monster.
So far Kaido's motives seem to be about his legacy, considering his anger toward his son because he doesn't want to follow his footsteps, his desired to die an epic death, his jelousy for dead legends like Oden and WB, and the fact that he expened 20 years preparing for this grand finale shows that Kaido cares a lot about his legacy.

She’s destroyed entire towns because they DIDN’T give her food, this town gave her food when she was most vulnerable and took care of her. How isn’t it obvious that Big Mom would be angry about such a thing? She’s a person with emotions that are very clearly motivated by food.
The problem isn't that she's angry, the problem is that she somehow equates this to Kaido and his men not having any morals. Big Mom being grateful and angry at what happened to the town is good for her but Kaido's men didn't get any food from Okobore town, they aren't indebted to the town in anyway so BM saying they are "the bad guys" essentially is just a really convenient way to introduce a possible end to BM and Kaido's alliance.

Her reason for hitting Page One is because of what Tama told her about what happened to the people who helped her. Big Mom reminds me of my brother’s old 120 lb american bulldog, Hog.
Hog was scary as hell when he wanted to be, and would seriously mess up anyone he didn’t like, especially when they appeared to threaten our nieces and nephews, but I swear...if Hog hated you, but you gave him some food, suddenly you and he were best friends for life (as long as you stayed cool with the nieces and nephews, of course).
Nothing that happens with Big Mom surprises me, we just have to go along with it

I wish this "Mother Mode" was shown earlier on Whole Cake Island. One way it could have been done is that every family on the island has obese spoiled children because Big Mom over-provides for them. But once a family doesn't have children anymore, Big Mom stops caring and neglects said family. Thus, many families on the island have a dozen kids for the sake of keeping plentiful provisions coming to the house.
But it was shown. She was walking down mad and saw a group of her younger children and her mood changed to a sweet mother. The other conditions is that they interacted with her she was also mad about the people in Oraboka town because they were also nice to her.
Stop complaining, oda almost always proves us wrong.

Big Mom was literally introduced and portrayed as an OBVIOUS hypocritical psychopath that would destroy entire nations over food. This personality was consistent over several hundred chapters. Her actions from this chapter were insurmountably reasonable and true to her character. Perhaps it will move the arc towards a "suboptimal" path (in terms of story telling), but its definitely not BS.

there is not a single plot hole in her decision, she can betray anything and everything if it is not related to food
But there's no consistency. She was willing to destroy entire countries but this is where she draws the line? How does that make sense? And Kaido dropping Onigashima probably would've resulted in Okobore Town being destroyed but she was ok with that. Also, this moment came completely out of nowhere - if this was established much earlier than it wouldn't be an issue but to do it this late in the arc, when the stakes are this high doesn't sit right with me.

Let me play devils advocate. If we're talking about the characters goals and motivations. Kaito is a suicidal and just wants to start a world War so he can die. Big Mom wants to unite all species on the world on whole cake island. Look at how Big Mom treats the residents of Whole Cake island aside from her hunger fits and then how Kaito treats the people of Wano. That's clearly at odds there. So in that sense, what Big Mom did there isn't that strange or unexpected.
But at the same time, Kaido's dialogue with his direct underlings is more friendly than that of Big Mom with her kids

The difference between Momo and O-tama is that Otama and Kinemon's wife gave Big Mom food even tho they hadn't much themselves.
It is just written in Big Mom's portrait and Luffy alike that if you give food to either one them, you are good person in their eyes and the impact of amnesia makes that memory with O-lin even stronger. Besides it's not like Straw Hats are forgiven. Only Nami and Usopp are because they took care of O-tama. Big Mom have business with Kid and Luffy right now.
I like it, because it's not random. Its literally her character. That's why we had the big mom flashback.

I have a theory about why Hera is so damn powerful despite only being born.
Zeus and Prometheus were both created by big mom when she was a child, their fragments of her soul are fragments of when she was a child. they grew up and got stronger but never at the rate big mom did but when in contact their souls show a much greater force since they connect to big mom.
Hera, however, was created with the soul of a mature yonko meaning she has a soul with the same powerful wavelength as big mom and it gets even stronger when big mom acts alongside her.
this effectively means prometheus is also subject to being sacked for a new fire if big mom actually notices this fact.

I think joy boy had been right. Big moms going to be the friend of the straw hats in the end. And the clues have been there the whole time. She had been portrayed as a villain by omition of her true goals and feelings. Partly by oda and partly by herself with lies and deception on purpose to create her fear factor, so her powers are effective on anyone she might encounter. Big mom is an x factor still. So I'm not even half surprised. We have a long way to go with her still, but I think she wants luffy to do better. She was disappointed at whole cake island that luffy was not stronger. Its like she was expecting him and wanting him to advance in some respect. So there is motivation we are supposed to not know about yet. And we all knew she would or will betray Kiado at some point. But I think she might not be just switching sides right now. She might still want to fight luffy. We shall see. But I think whole cake was a test set up for luffy by big mom for some unknown reason. That she secretly wants him to pass for whatever reason. She outright says so from what I remember.

Technically, no one was present to witness Kanjuro actually beating up Momonosuke. Big Mom did witness his battered body during his scheduled execution though.

The only thing I can assume is that because they fed her while she had no memory, she feels greatful and wanted to go over there and eat more. So if anything, its because they appealed to her stomach and sweet tooth(cuz you know, she can't get enough sweets). Thats the only plausible reason I can come up with, otherwise she has 0 reason to care.
