I also had the same frustrations the first time i went to Philippines(as an adult). I was so used to only using cards and online pay that i forgot other countries relly on cash😆. I asked the taxi driver if he wants to accept yen and he said "ill accept it if its real, how do i know its real" I showed him my id and all the yen in my wallet then he beleived me😆. I gave him 10k yen as thanks. I was so frustrated i dont care if i gave him 5 times what i was supposed to pay him. that day i promised to never visit Philippines without my Filipino friend😆.
From Joshua's story, I learnt: - must exchange currency before arriving at the country - double and triple-check the requirements when visiting a country (website, call the flight centre etc) - download 2 or more taxi apps of the country you are travelling to (to see which app has the cheapest price) - learn the language of the country you are travelling to and tell the taxi driver you lived in the country before so they would likely not scam you

Jeonghan was a naughty child who didn't pay attention to his studies and kids like that were sent to these academies, now too they do the same but instead of hitting they have other punishments. 3.5 million won would equal around $2,590 usd/$3,849 aud/£1,984 gbp so it's not as much but it is still a lot to just lose at once 😭 (i don't know what currency you use, so i just listed the ones ik off the top of my head)

With the average salary per hour in my country, you have to work for around 40 hours to get 3.5million won. Adding onto that, Joshua's flight including his mom cost like 3.5million won...so about 1.7million won for each (~$1950AUD). Not entirely sure if Joshua was planning to fly from SK to Danang or from USA to Danang, either way, the average flight ticket for USA to Danang (the furthest) is about ~$400+ so they must have taken premimum/business/etc class but still $1950 each for a flight is damn crazy and to lose all that in a day- even if the 3.5million won includes the hotel reservation at Danang.

That’s strange about the Vietnam visa story… because it can be issued on the same day at the airport. It costs a few hundred dollars (as opposed to the ~$20 it costs when you get it in advance) but usually it can still be issued. Because it’s just the government’s way of gaining extra money from tourism, it’s a physical/digital “permission” for foreigners to enter a country and keep track of how long they’re in the country but the monetary gain is their focus. Being able to charge hundreds for on the spot visas for people who forget to get it before travelling would be a great little side income for them 😂😂
Are you sure? I don't know about American passports but when I went to Vietnam from Australia, the visa took a few days to approve and to check the details (my friend had to resubmit cause her hotel details weren't accurate). Did not seem like it's something you can do instantly/at the airport as you need to submit to their immigration department right?

I've been to Vietnam three times and the second time we forgot to apply for a visa in advance... rocked up at the airport, realised our mistake and went to our airline for help. They gave us the option to pay ~$300 each to receive a visa on arrival. They made a few calls and it was organised within 20 mins and we had to pay upfront. We then received our visas upon arrival in Saigon. We never forgot after that 😂 Vietnam are known to be very stingy and difficult with their visa system

But its easier in thailand because money exchange is everywhere there but i forgot to bring lot of cash, then i try my card at 5 or 6 bank in the mall, even queue take number to talk to the banker but still they cannot accept the card to withdraw the money. At last i order grab and ask the grab drive to help me with money and i will touchngo him. Luckily he helps me but i also got scamm, i paid him around 1200 baht extra just for for distance less than 1.4km 😭

Couldn’t Josh have just got a visa on arrival? Was that not available? It would take maybe some extra time in the airport but better than letting all the bookings go to waste. It was only his mum who needed the visa and she has American citizenship so it shouldn’t be too difficult to get on arrival….?
