Just watched your video again and really enjoyed it, agreeing with everything you say. One disadvantage that I have sometimes come across with ring planners is that, depending on how much wear and tear they get, the rings can "jump" so that they desynchronise and will thereafter never shut tightly again. I know that some rings can be replaced, but I'm not crafty or practical enough to be confident to try to do it. Years ago this happened to a very expensive leather filofax I acquired in pre-vegan days, so basically found I was never able to use it again, except as a "holding tank" for blank papers. Oddly enough I have had ring planners which got bashed about and with which I never had this problem, but my experiences with those few that did go awol have put me off ever spending more than a few quid on rings again.
I love the idea of having a kids notebook, a home the book etc. I never thought of breaking it down into specific notebooks that I can interchange. Great idea!
I'm not a diehard ringer, exactly, and I have considered trying a TN, but I've always ended up wondering how the TN could possibly match the security and flexibility of the rings, so in the end never got around to getting one. I always use A5, it's a comfortable size for me, and there is so much choice in rings. I'm a vegan and there don't seem to be too many vegan-suitable TN's around, at least in the shops local to me. I think I'd probably only use TN's if I couldn't find good rings but I've always been satisfied with the choice and performance of rings so I probably won't be changing now.
You are correct, a lot of the smaller shops seems to be leather...I think Prima planner makes non leather tns, also websters pages are non leather, I'm pretty sure. Etsy has so many vinyl tns as well...
I enjoy both planner in TN and rings still trying to figure out a system that works for me. The reason I like rings is because you can combine so many different inserts for one section for one specific thing. You basically customized to your own needs for whatever the project is for.
I love both rings n strings and have a super hard time committing to one . So I use an A5 ring bound for home stuff (work, homeschool, monthly calendar) and I use a Tn for edc/weekly planning, another tn for journal smash book, another one for bible faith stuff etc. 😄 Best of both worlds for me 💕😊 love your videos!
Filofax have some soft, flexible ring binders - the Domino has been around for a long time and they have some new varieties now, not sure about the names.
I’m left handed so I can’t use ring bound planners(or binders). I would have to take the pages out to be able to write in them. The only thing I hate about being left handed is not being able to use a binder but I do love my traveler’s notebooks.
I don't understand this logic with left handed people..please explain cause right handed people have the same issues with the rings when writing on the left side.
I can’t speak for any right handed people cause I don’t know about their "struggle" but as a left handed person, every time I use to try to use binders in school, I always had trouble because my arm/hand hit up against/rested on the rings. From what I have seen, right handed people just write without your hands hitting up against the rings since the rings is on the left side and you are writing with your right hand. Right handed people don’t look like they have a problem writing in rings. In order for me to write in rings, I have to take the paper out to write and I don’t want to have to do that extra little step in order to just right something down neatly.
I can't use a TN like a ringbound, the first is a kind of memory planning, lists an so on but only in a ringbound I can put inserts for the whole year... So they're very different to me, they have both pros and cons!
If your planner system is strong enough, you can plan in either of them really easily. I think it comes down to aesthetics. I prefer the Travelers notebook with a blank insert where I put EVERYTHING down. Sure it isn't sectioned off, but I'm so prone to losing papers and ideas that having the papers stapled together was novel to me. I also don't think ring bound planners have as many leather cover options as travelers notebooks do. I understand the convenience of ring-bound, I just never wanted to reach for it and touch it.
Good minds ... I was just constructing a blog post about this. (Scheduled for July) I love them all which is my issue. 😂 I miss many things from each system. The flexibility of rings, the practicality of a 1 book bujo, the ease of a TN, and the layout of an HP. Can I just merry them in to 1? 😃😋
Omg, so true. I find myself even now missing some aspects of tns, and when I used tns exclusively I missed rings. #ridiculous lolol This is why planner peace doesn't exist.
Thank you for this video. Me well I keep switching back and forth. Like you I love them both. I still don't know which one to use. Is your ring bound an A5. Again thank you
Love this video been wanting to try a tn some where down the road.. still new to the planner world and still trying to figure out how to use my ring-bound planner to my liking, but I’ve been looking for a video to kind compare both and I always default to watching your video... 💜 thank you
No you deff helped put them in a better perspective... and I may still try out a ton down the road but my stick to a ring bound for the same reasons as you I like how they lay flat and i can put anything I want in it with out a fear of loosing it
Thank you for the review of both. Although this video is two years old it still had some extremely valuable point.

Exactly!! It's very personalized.
Loose rings are useful for storage of ring refill sections. Agree about lying flat!
I hate the rings , and I have never heard of travelers notebooks. You opened my mind to new possibilities 🙂

Sounds like you've got your system figured out!! Hopefully I will one day! Thanks for watching!
Amen! Opening flat is a huge thing for me. I left a TN for a Hobo for that reason. But bound isn’t flexible. It’s hard.

I think the ring bound world is diverse in it's own right and only growing, with a lot of TN makers now producing rings as well. Thanks for watching!
Love your set up. What size inserts are in your Franklin Covey compact?
Those are b6 size inserts from Annie Plans Printables that I cut in half and punched.

Discbound?

The ring bound I am currently using is a Franklin Planner compact size, the ring bound I am selling is an a5. :D
Thanks for watching!
I am with u I love rings but still like travelers notebooks
Because of how much u can fit in it and the way it is easy to add books
This is true, you can super stuff a tn and it looks amazing!!

I hope I helped a little, I know I get off on tangents lol. It really comes down to just trying them out and getting into a groove with it.

I was just wondering if you have ever used a coil bound like an Erin condren
I have. But it never lasted long, I found it restrictive.
Very informative info. Thanks 👍🏽
which planner is this? and what size is it?
Sophie Lacoste I think I show my foxy fix sugar coconut b6 size and my Franklin planner blush floral in personal size. 😁
Gosh, you are slowly converting me to rings...Omg...I need an intervention. I just bought a B6 Salt waiting for it to ship.
oooo I was thinking about the salt for so long and then himalayan salt dropped. :D
Ps you look beautiful with your hair down !!!
Thank you!
