We read The Golden Bull when looking at Mesopotamia and really enjoyed it. It can be difficult to find great books for kids on some of the eras. Lots on Egypt and Rome and some on Greece, but other places are rare. Instead of The Odyssey, we read Argos by Ralph Hardy and found it a great alternative.
Would love an update on how you liked SOTW this year, and the read alouds! I was going between TGTB and this, and have decided on SOTW and starting to plan for next year...though still like the idea of TGTB, too. It’s so hard to pick sometimes 😆
We have LOVED using SOTW and my opinion is that it’s better than TGTB. Next year I’m doing SOTW again and I’m already so excited. We read aloud several books and just didn’t have time for many others in our “official school” so I just put them on the bookshelf for the kids to read whenever they want. SOTW is definitely my favorite!
@@AnnieSmithawifenmother thank you!!! That makes me feel better about my initial leaning toward SOTW! That’s what I was thinking as I’ve started to map out the first few chapters...is this amount of books realistic 🤔 🤪 so that helps a lot!
I would recommend twice a year read on July 4th the day that the Declaration of Independence was ratified and signed and on September 17th when the Constitution of the United States was ratified by all 13 Colonies. They do not need to know the meaning of the big words, but definitely talk about them. I have never been one for politics, but too much has been taken for granted. Our Founding Fathers at cost of their own lives and livelihood wrote and signed these documents. Tyranny and Martial Law are on the fringes. God still reigns!!!

Another fan of ThriftBooks! Can wait to see more of how your using this planner.
I just filmed my homeschool planner video and it will be up next week ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for these suggestions!
We found a bunch of kid videos on TH-cam that my boys loved and we made mummies out of my old barbies 🤣🤣

Thank you for your recommendation of Boy of the Painted Cave - we've just started SOTW and finished reading that last week!
We loved Boy of the Painted Cave!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi. Are all these books suggested by the author or ones that you included yourself? Just curious. Thank you!
They were recommended in the additional reads book list by the author. A few I may have found via search of the time period on Pinterest also.
Love seeing what you get definitely checking some of these out!

Great idea to just read the documents! I love it 🥰
Hi! Any suggestions on how to create a curriculum? They are to expensive to buy. Thanks.
