    With Version 1.0 and particularly the advent of the Juicer, my comments on recipes here (and the full video about them that I had planned and have a full script for xD) are now moot. Shark Dinner especially got nerfed - for the same ingredients, it only provides 1 meal instead of 3! Would have to double check, but I believe that would mean that it still provides more food than cooking the shark meat (when including the bonus) but the cave mushrooms and silver algae may also become more valuable in Version 1.0’s endgame: There are recipes available from Trading Posts that provides additional buffs, like faster swim speed from Salmon Salad (not sure what changes with ingredients).
    Edit: The bucket is currently consumed with the milk for Head Broth. When this happened before, the devs mentioned that wasn’t supposed to be, so this is likely a bug, and it was previously fixed. Even if it isn’t, buckets are cheap and empty ones stack, so it’s not a big deal.

      In previous versions of Raft, Bruce could attack inner pieces of the Raft if the edges were fully armored - I lost an engine once because of that. This world is also quite old - I just haven’t played much.
      Even if I were to armor the edges, I wouldn’t *completely* armor them: Bruce is a valuable source of food and fuel, and exchanging some wood to repair foundations and some metal from spear pokes is worth it.

    So I got the game yesterday and I'm already at 12 hours. Im on my way to the first quest island after the radio tower and the effeciency of your raft is crazy. I got tired of hooking things finally so I just made my raft really long with a line of nets, it gets the job done for now, but now I'm getting curious about later game stuff and its making me realise how inefficient my raft is

    ~10:00 One problem I have with the meals that use milk is you don't get the bucket back.
    EDIT - now you say they fixed that? Interesting, I'll give those another try on the next run through.
    EDIT 2 - It does still use the bucket in the recipe.

    • @clawsonbournegaming5491
      @clawsonbournegaming5491  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that was a thing for a while but was patched. Even then though, it was worth the 3 planks, 1 scrap, and 1 rope for buckets for Head Broth. But what about Fish Stew, the only other recipe that uses a Bucket of Milk? Ready for some math?
      Fish Stew is 2 Raw Mackerels or Raw Tilapia, 1 Egg, and 1 Bucket of Milk. Cooking the fish, and eating them, the egg, and drinking the milk would give a total of 40 Thirst, 85 Hunger, and 10 Bonus. Assuming one has the Clay, the 2 recipes created would provide 30 Hunger and 60 Bonus. Bonus is worth double the same amount of Hunger, and Advanced Water Purifiers are free Thirst, so it’s essentially 105 Hunger with the ingredients versus 150 Hunger with the recipe, making the recipe roughly 1.5x more Hunger efficient. This calculation can be done with all of the recipes to get their efficiencies.
      However, since I don’t tend to play multiplayer and don’t play on Hard, I don’t need to fish anymore, so I don’t have a lot of Mackerel or Tilapia. That being said, if either of those were true, and we needed more food for others, or I needed more shark bait and had less shark meat, AND if I also had some Goats and Cluckers, THEN and only then, Fish Stew would be a fine recipe...notice all those if statements xD
      The other recipe, on the other hand, is Head Broth. You cannot eat or cook the pufferfish heads on their own, so they aren’t worth any food in the first place. They could be used for biofuel, but you’ll have plenty of shark, screecher, warthog, and bear heads for biofuel, especially if you use fewer engines. The other ingredient is a beet or a potato and they’re cheap. The 10 bonus lost from the milk and the 15 Hunger from the cooked beet/potato then is worth the 40 hunger and *80* bonus the two meals it makes provide.
      Could honestly make a whole video on this topic actually...

      @@clawsonbournegaming5491 - At some point it's less about net efficiency of an item and more about variety, convenience, and ambiance. The main thing wasn't so much about food efficiency as much as the scrap lost from the bucket - like you showed by that point in the game I was living off of milk, eggs and honey.

    I started my new raft with my friend and were doing pretty good but how do you catch animals and get them on your ship

    • @clawsonbournegaming5491
      @clawsonbournegaming5491  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Catching and maintaining animals is a rewarding but complicated process.
      To start, animals can usually only be found on large islands, which means you need to use the receiver to find the green dots and sail towards them. When you arrive at a large island, your first priority should be to try to park your raft somewhere where there are not resources directly below it underwater. By doing this, you will have an easier time harvesting resources, dealing with Bruce, but most importantly, fighting poison puffers, which I’ll come back to.
      Once you’ve anchored somewhere with little beneath you, simply explore the island proper, and hunt any screechers or warthogs as they will be aggressive to you otherwise. Especially the screechers as they can drop rocks on you while underwater, but nothing underwater will attack you while on land.
      While exploring, bring a shovel, and collect any good dirt that you find in small caves - all large islands have some, but some have more than others, and some story islands have a lot. Dirt is used to craft grass plots, which is needed to feed animals. Animals no longer die if they don’t eat but they won’t produce their resource if they don’t, so cluckers won’t drop eggs, llamas won’t grow wool, and goats won’t make milk.
      Now comes the more stressful part. To actually catch an animal, you need to use a net launcher. The key ingredient to make the ammo is explosive powder, which is smelted from explosive goo which comes from poison puffers...but only the ones that you kill. See, poison puffers act like creepers - upon getting close enough, they will slowly home in on you and attempt to violently explode, leaving behind a poison cloud, which although damaging is not lethal, but *they don’t drop their resources.* Use a bow and some arrows or carefully poke them with flippers to kill them and get their goo and heads.
      Naturally, the whole time you’re underwater, you must be mindful of Bruce, but that’s why you parked somewhere specific - see, Bruce is “tethered” - he is set to swim within a certain distance of the raft. Large islands are big enough that he won’t bother you at all on the other sides of the them, and as you get closer you can either fight and kill him or use shark bait to give you time to harvest what’s underneath the raft.
      But that’s it! Smelt the explosive goo into powder and make some nets and head back onto the island to pick up some animals. Once captured, carry them back to your raft and plop em down. I would recommend fencing off a small area so that they don’t wander, and they’ll need some grass plots to eat. As soon as you can, a sprinkler will far more efficiently water your plots. I find that one animal needs about 3 grass plots each, so you might only be able to afford to capture one animal per island.

    I think what I like about you design isn't so much the exploits of the building mechanics, as pretty much all advanced designs use some to some extent. Rather, it is that it looks and acts like a... raft, yet it is highly functional for being a raft design rather than a ship design like I and so many others have tried using.

    • @clawsonbournegaming5491
      @clawsonbournegaming5491  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much, that’s definitely what I was going for ^^
      My first build was actually much more ship-like, with an angled bow in the front. However, after dealing with Bruce for a while and then with the introduction of the engines and their 100 foundation limit, I swapped to more of a raft design.
      I wanted to stay within that limit, and found that building additional floors did not increase it. Unfortunately, it looked like a floating skyscraper and was a pain to run up to water the animal’s sprinklers on the fourth floor, passing the third with the large crop plots that I never used. It also costed a dump truck load of nails for pillars before I realized that walls do the same for cheaper.
      Finally, after discovering that building technique, I restructured everything, flattened and spread out what was on the upper floors and ended up with this design. I also really love the spacious yet roofed central cabin - you can’t place a flat floor across that distance, but by alternating sloped roofs and floors, I got that design: exactly tall enough for the sail.

    • @ahmataevo
      @ahmataevo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clawsonbournegaming5491 - I'm still testing a more conventional build, and I consider it a success when I can get a build that can use collection nets in a 30 tile distance in any angle on 2 engines. I don't like messing around with engine designs/layouts, but whatever works for whoever uses it. My last playthrough ran on 3 and still had more than enough fuel.

    • @mineralwoteh9059
      @mineralwoteh9059 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ahmataevo To be fair this build actually exploits mechanic more than other raft I've normally seen. It's not looks and acts like a raft. Because if he build real raft this way, there's not enough foundation and the raft will just sink. So having ship design is actually more realistic from design stand point. But as for efficiency and game mechanic exploit, this one is the best build out here.

    Is it worth using all that glass to make the honey and then using it to make biofuel?

    • @clawsonbournegaming5491
      @clawsonbournegaming5491  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sand is used to make bricks which are used for smelters. When smelted, the glass can be used for advanced water purifiers, jars of honey, or a pair of binoculars - that’s it.
      So, make your first smelter, then make an advanced purifier or two, then make a few more smelters and purifiers, then from that point, practically all of your sand can be used for glass for jars. The binoculars don’t increase your render distance - I.e. they won’t help you spot islands from further away, so I hardly ever use them.
      Oh, and the honeycombs from beehives can only be used for two things - Good healing salves and jars of honey. Again, make a few good healing salves, then use the rest for honey. The salves are nice to have, but it’s pretty easy to play without getting hit by anything.

    How are nets connected to nets?

    • @clawsonbournegaming5491
      @clawsonbournegaming5491  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Collection nets must be placed adjacent to a foundation. However, as long as they are connected to a pillar/foundation/net, then the foundation can be removed and the net will remain. You could theoretically use this to place any amount of collection nets and have only one foundation (after having broken the others used as scaffolding).
      See this video for a little more about it (though it’s mainly about other tricks):

  • @recoveringsoul755
    @recoveringsoul755 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks like a barn! Very nice but I didn't think you could have a base of practically solid collection nets. Don't you fall into the water? Pretty incredible. It seems strange to me that you don't get any bacon from the warthog. I didn't know you could drink the milk, but I've just been watching people play and not playing myself. Fun stuff.

    • @clawsonbournegaming5491
      @clawsonbournegaming5491  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I wanted a large, central cabin, and figuring out how to build that without pillar support took some time but I like the result.
      Nope, collection nets are solid surfaces to walk on. The only places you have to watch out for in terms of failing in are the anchor, the engine, the paint mill, and the water purifiers; You can then place half walls with a floor, full walls, ropes, and ramps in just the right way to prevent all falling in through any of those.
      I don’t mention it, but you do get raw meat from Warthogs, Lurkers, Bears, and Mudhogs. This can be cooked on a grill for cooked meat, but it’s not currently used in any recipes and does not provide bonus Hunger. It’s nice while you’re exploring those story islands if you haven’t stocked up from large islands, but I don’t tend to use it in the endgame.
      Yeah, milk in comparison is where it’s at - mark my words, it’ll get nerfed, particularly when the juicer arrives.
      Due to how important the raft design is to the gameplay, I think this is one of the few games that’s more fun to play then watch, though maybe more with friends, I’ve just never been able to convince mine to try it out with me. I got a lot of my ideas for this raft from other TH-cam videos and wanted to pass along the knowledge, but the overall raft design was mine alone.

    • @clawsonbournegaming5491
      @clawsonbournegaming5491  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was right - Milk got nerfed with the Juicer: Now it provides bonus Thirst instead of bonus Hunger, no longer providing an infinite source of free food with a couple of goats :P

    The islands never end and there's plenty of metal to do everything you want to do with it, you just need to spend the time collecting from every island.

  • @40watt53

    I would change out the bottom to be a normal floor instead of all collection nets, but this is still sick.

    • @clawsonbournegaming5491
      @clawsonbournegaming5491  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like I mention in the video, you could easily add another engine and 100 more foundations so that it’s more comfortable to build and walk on down below. Biofuel isn’t hard to make, but it’s more annoying to activate two engines rather than one in my opinion.
      That, however, would not be enough to replace every collection net down below, and you would have to add a third or fourth engine to compensate, which would require a more radical rearrangement. If you went nuts tho, the maximum number of engines needed is only 6, no matter how large the raft.

    • @clawsonbournegaming5491
      @clawsonbournegaming5491  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s a new structure called engine controls (think this actually came with the Renovation Update, I just haven’t played until Version 1.0) that allows you to control all of the engine’s power and directions at once, and even raise and lower the advanced anchor. I’ll probably build a two engine design for that reason. I created a new world with 1.0 to see how the story and early game has been revamped.
