I tried to grow ornamental corn this year but only a few seeds germinated and slugs had damaged the seedlings that survived. I think rodents got most of them. I was going to trash them and replant with something else but remembered hearing this tip on another of your videos! So I carefully transplanted the tiny plants into a large pot and placed it in my landscaping. I figured that even if they don’t ear, they’ll look cool later in the season. I also planted a few shelling beans at the base since I was originally going for a 3 sisters garden. Thanks for the valuable information!

I am here for help with my tomatoes . I have lost about 6 of my plants to some sort of wilt. Maybe overwatering? But why not all of them? Got a video?

We Love growing our own popcorn. We use it as popcorn and also grind it into meal for corn bread.

if you haven't checked look at the stems for small holes and frass I get borers in mine along with other plants with large stems. Its so frustrating.

Don’t water the leafs, only water the at the base of the stem, prune the leafs off of the base of the plants, and water every 3-4 days a deep water. I’m in zone 5a and that how I grow my 60 tomato plants every year.

Wow, I'd love to grow popcorn. I definitely have to try the hilling method.

I have always grown corn in rows. My farm-boy husband will probably look at me funny, but I'll try this next year! I planted my last 2 rows last night. Crossing my fingers. This will be the first corn we've had in about 4 or 5 years.

Wow! That's good to know, the hill method for corn. I live in Utah, too.

Oh I’m so excited! I used up all the space in my garden I thought to grow corn this year, sounds like I can pretty much grow it anywhere!

Another thing to consider is maturity on corn is figured by growing degree days. Say a 70 day maturity corn is planted mid June, it will mature faster then 70 days because the average growing degrees per day are more during the heat of summer. Should easily mature a week sooner compared to the same variety planted in early spring when its cooler and the growing degrees per day are less. But really depends on your location.

Thanks for the idea! I still haven’t planted my corn. I have a farmer who sells corn a couple miles down the road, so I haven’t grown it the last few years, but was planning to this year. What variety of popcorn do you usually grow?
I planted some of my tomatoes in April in Wall O Water cloches and I just picked my first ripe tomato yesterday! I don’t think I’ve ever had one this early. It was an Early Girl bush variety.

Years ago my single 'hill of Sweet Corn' was a good 5 or 6 foot in diameter oval.
I think I might have planted two varieties of sweet corn, planted a bit late perhaps.
But the corn stocks were beautiful, I recall in a NH Halloween and I got some sweet corn out of it.
    Thoughts, anyone?
