Hi!! 5:10 do you hear that here we have a clear zagorissios pattern? a perfect zagorissios (5/4)x4 bars!! folk dance into oratorio!! 1) what means the cover with the Woman-God? perhaps the Nature? 2) why àxion estì with o without accent àxiòn as we see for example in the word ànthrwpòi tines?? thanks.
1) The cover is a painting by Yannis Tsarouhis, the famous Greek painter, who created it especially for the album to remind us of the Ancient Greek goddesses. She could be Gaia or Dimitra to symbolize nature, but we still don't know. 2) The title of the album appears in the uppercase, but when I mention it in the lower case I have to use the Modern Greek grammar rules and accents.
Mikis Theodorakis uses almost all traditional and folk Greek rhythms in this album as this was his original purpose, especially in the instrumental or choral parts.
Vicky Papaprodromou I warmly thank you for your reply!! yes, I saw two accents in a word in modern greek too. yes except zeibekiko and kalamatianòs and syngathistòs, ok. I found an "hidden" zeibekiko in Canto General, the last part of United Fruit. super! thanks.
the text of axion esti is very hard, even if translated into my native language. as a very short summary can we say that axion esti celebrates greek nature and greek women?
This is rather simplified point of view; in a way it does but it definitely deals with Greece and Greek people in general. You should read the poems, however hard they might be, to get a slight idea of this fabulous poetic collection by Elytis. The poems inspired Mikis to compose this oratorium.
