  • Oceanbird: The Genius Ship That Will Revolutionize The World
After years of research, design, and testing, the Oceanbird concept is ready to begin challenging the way we think about international marine freight movement. When upwards of 80% of the world’s goods are moving by sea, are we genuinely moving back towards sailing ships in this modern age? It’s actually a very environmentally sensitive idea…
Pushing your car half a mile would take a lot of effort. The same thing could be accomplished, at a much greater speed, with less than half a cup of gasoline. There is an immense amount of energy hidden in the chemical bonds of processed hydrocarbons and we’ve learned to exploit that extremely well over the years.
Oceanbird is a Swedish ship that can carry massive amounts of RoRo (Roll-On/Roll-Off) cargo (e.g. 7,000 cars) at speeds approaching current freighters. This is particularly true now that conventional freighters have slowed down to cut fuel costs. A fossil-fuelled RoRo freighter previously taking 7 days at normal speed would outpace Oceanbird by five days, but now they’re heading towards similar figures as conventional vessels try to economize on expensive diesel fuel.

I love the idea. Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I highly doubt that we'll change course. We've been knowingly headed toward long term environmental catastrophe in exchange for short term profits for decades, and we have done little to change course.

I would absolutely love it if we had this shit right now. I could imagine a prototype happening very soon. It’s simply a case of slowly scaling it up. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ship could even be 100% or nearly 100% clean if it relied on also solar to provide the necessary additional electricity. Considering the sales will comprise about 90% of what was previously done by the fossil fuels, it makes sense that remaining 10% could be switched out with batteries and solar energy. I look forward to seeing one of these ships in person. Will definitely need one of them up and operational before the end of the decade or we are in deep trouble.

As for the greenie push... Are you daft? Have you never learned that sound dissipates in energy by the inverse square law? 170 dB at 1 meter falls below 100 dB at 1 mile. 170 dB at 1 foot falls below 100 dB at 1 km. Your wild conjecture is unacceptible.

A wind powered boat that travels into the wind rather than against it is fairly new 😂 it’s not thousands of years old, and it’ll last a longer than a sail.
Plus the Wright brothers only successfully flew with an airfoil plane in 1903, which is what this ship would use to harness the winds energy (creating air pressure) rather than wind resistance.
Don’t breed pls and stay in school

    • @fransmulder9326
      @fransmulder9326 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

What makes you think that this ship can sail against the wind?
Also on half wind coarses the high freebord will cause a strong leeway drift.
Nothing is mentioned on how to ensure stability. Yaghts have keels. How deep a keel woul this ship need.
It is a pity that they didn't show more of the RC version sailing
Riggid "wing"-type sails are also not new. Telescopic sails are.
That however does not yield a revolutionairy concept

Mankind is only beginning to scratch the surface of both what technology could achieve and the implications of using such technology. Every choice we make has an impact of some sort. Damming water eliminates fossil fuels but also impedes migration of animals and could increase earthquake risks. Windmills in wind farms also eliminates fossil fuel consumption but it has increased the fatalities of birds of prey as they perch on the highest objects to scan for prey. At this point a reduction in one issue is a good thing but what is the next thing that'll happen as a consequence of that decision. We as a species are far past returning to nature and living as hunter/gatherers and doning w/out the medical/technological advances we've made through just this past century. Make no mistake humans we can't harm the Earth .....but the Earth can harm us. The Earth has a balance and the warming Earth will eventually cool off at our expense. Anyone who understands the history of the Earth will know what I speak of as we are in an interglacial period of warming. Interglacials get progressively longer each time they occur and glacial periods remain consistent at roughly 90,000 years. We as a species were brought about the end of one Iceage (140,000yrs ago) and survived the last Iceage (11,000+yrs ago). I believe that the excellerated warming has pushed us to the tipping point of the shift of balance. It is the right thing to do to correct the mistakes of the past generations in their pursuit of ...power, but I feel future generations and possibly our generation will bear the consequences of nature's impending global cull.

Sure, people will think it sounds great, until they see how much more expensive literally EVERYTHING is, at which point they won't be able to abandon it fast enough.

Yeah, you are showing two types of sails there, single element which is retractable, but is completely useless. And then a 2 element sail that would suck the ship along pretty well, but is not retractable. The whole concept is flawed. Not quite sure why they chose a Ro-Ro for this. They are too heavy enough and fall over often. Adding weight and windage aloft is not going to help for shit.

The Earth is cooler w the atmos/GHGs/albedo not warmer.
To perform as advertised the GHGs require "extra" energy upwelling from the surface radiating as a black body.
The kinetic heat transfer processes of the contiguous atmos molecules render that scenario impossible.
No greenhouse effect, no GHG heating, no man/CO2 driven climate change or Gorebal warming.

None of what you just said makes scientific sense, and no-one familiar with what the words you're using mean, or how the scientific method operates, would take those claims seriously or promote them.
The claims about how physics works featured in that particular faction of pseudoscience cannot be reconciled with how matter and energy behave in the lab or when observed and measured in nature. Whereas the descriptions of how matter and energy behave, as used by climatological models, _has_ been tested by empirical experiment and observation.
To introduce new physics they'd have to show it actually happening in real life and measure it.
But that won't happen because they're apparently not interested in making scientific sense, and the fake hypothesis is aimed entirely at people who aren't interested in or familiar with science.

      What you believe is religion.
      What you think is opinion.
      What you know is science.
      Here's what we know.
Fact 1: Remove the Earth’s atmosphere or even just the GreenHouse Gases and the Earth becomes much like the Moon, no water vapor or clouds, no ice or snow, no oceans, no vegetation, no 30% albedo becoming a barren rock ball, hot^3 (400 K) on the lit side, cold^3 (100 K) on the dark. At our distance from the Sun space is hot (394 K) not cold (5 K).
That’s NOT what the Radiative GreenHouse Effect theory says.
      EVIDENCE:
      RGHE theory “288 K w - 255 K w/o = a 33 C colder ice ball Earth” 255 K assumes w/o keeps 30% albedo, an assumption akin to criminal fraud.
      Nikolov “Airless Celestial Bodies”
Kramm “Moon as test bed for Earth”
      UCLA Diviner lunar mission data
Int’l Space Station HVAC design for lit side of 250 F. (ISS web site)
Astronaut backpack life support w/ AC and cool water tubing underwear. (Space Discovery Center)
Fact 2: The GHGs require “extra” energy upwelling from a surface radiating as a black body.
      EVIDENCE:
According to the K-T atmospheric power flux balance, numerous clones and SURFRAD the GHGs must absorb an “extra” 396/333/63 W/m^2 LWIR energy upwelling from the surface allegedly radiating as a black body. These graphics contain egregious arithmetic and thermodynamic errors. See th-cam.com/video/0Jijw7-YG-U/w-d-xo.html
Fact 3: Because of the significant non-radiative, i.e. kinetic, heat transfer processes of the contiguous participating atmospheric molecules the surface cannot upwell “extra” energy as a black body.
      EVIDENCE:
As demonstrated by experiment, the gold standard of classical science.
For the experimental write up see:
      principia-scientific.org/debunking-the-greenhouse-gas-theory-with-a-boiling-water-pot/
      CONCLUSION:
No RGHE, no GHG warming, no CAGW or mankind/CO2 driven climate change.
