    Thanks for sharing two ways to edit efficiently to the beat. While I have been using Final Cut Pro X for a couple of years now, I have been "winging it." During this quarantine time, I have been trying to learn some of those effective and useful basics, so that we can uplevel our music video production. Your videos help with that immensely! Thanks. :)

    This is a really good idea! For the first way you could also do it this way if you really want to slow down the footage, i would lift the clip from the timeline i think the command is alt+command+up, slow it down, trim it to the original lenght and then bring it back into the timeline alt+command+down

    I have been looking for the info for a while and this is the most informative video I have seen, regardless of views count. Very well explained!! A++ Thank you. The only thing is, I need to manage the out point as well, so I guess I need to go clip by clip and make sure it cuts and blends in nicely with the music. Markers are more natural for me as it goes back to days when we wrote time codes down for editors. "Feeling the music" is right on, well said! This is SO true.

    Thanks for the explanation. Looks like you have a music background. In other videos they didn't mention if they cut on bassdrum & snare, some did only cut on the bassdrum. I also think you can do both. If the beat is quite quick it's hard to find the best point for a cut because you have so many options... :D

    These are neat tricks; I wish audio editing in final cut was more powerful, would be pretty cool if they could incorporate a leaned out version of logic in final cut. Cutting video to music is a breeze, but cutting music to video is pretty inflexible in final cut.

    • @WillChidlow
      @WillChidlow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree! I get by but you you are so right. I guess they just want us to buy logic for any audio heavy lifting 😂 thanks for watching and commenting 😎👍

    • @WillChidlow
      @WillChidlow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question! To do this I would just duplicate the project just before starting to drop my clips into the timeline. This way you would have the track with the markers rewady for your next project. Just duplicate the project each time before you use it to keep a clean version for next time. hope that helps! many thanks 🙏👍😎

    I started with your option 2 but now I mainly use option 1
    but I have a question: when I put already I and O and put the clip into my timeline - how can I shift left or right the clip, i.e. I want 1s earlier or 1s longer - do I have to insert the proper clip again into timeline or there is a way of shifting right-left on the timeline itself? I am not sure if you got my point. thx

    • @WillChidlow
      @WillChidlow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is an option to make minor adjustments, I think you right click on the clip or double click the clip, I forget exactly but there is definitely an option to do just this

  • @nickstevens8858

    Awesome video, just happened by this. Will I wanted to ask you what macbook you’re using for your FCP edits and whether you’ve found it can cope with H.265? My particular macbook pro can’t even play these files back as it’s quite old now 😭

    • @WillChidlow
      @WillChidlow  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ray 👋 thanks for watching! I’m using an late 2015 MBP with i7 and 16gb ram and 512gb SSD. It copes fine with most footage but I have to work with proxy files for anything 4K. The only H265 footage Ive worked with from my iPhone and also 4K so I’ve always assumed that it is the resolution rather than the codec that is the issue but perhaps you are right and the codec is not that great 🤔 either way if you create proxy media I think you will see a big improvement in Final Cuts performance. Hope that helps, thanks for watching and happy editing! 🙏😎👍

    • @WillChidlow
      @WillChidlow  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi friend! Thanks for watching and commenting! Good question... I’d suggest using the second method I show in the video and then using the region selector to select part of your clip you want to speed up or slow down, this way you can easily adjust each ramp to still hit on a desired beat. I’ll put this question on my ideas list and can maybe do another video to show how to do it. Many thanks 🙏 and happy editing!
