  • We backpacked into Little Lakes Valley in the John Muir Wilderness for 3 days and 2 nights. We stayed the 2 nights at Chickenfoot lake and fished all the other lakes in the valley.
    We fished for rainbow trout, brook trout, brown trout, and golden trout.
    There is still a lot of snow up in the Eastern Sierra from the 2017 snow season.
    To get permits to backpack in the valley, you must reserve them many months in advance online at the reserve usa website.
    Right below little lakes valley is Rock Creek Lake.

    Mr. Huck, I appreciate your image capture (including time lapse sessions), editing and commentary on this video. My family and I lived 8 years in Bishop during which several back country adventures were had every summer. We actually backpacked our 6 month old daughter into Little Lakes Valley on an overnighter just to say we did it and then used a mule train to get our supplies up to Pine Lake (up Pine Creek trail) when she was four. I might also suggest Dusy Basin (South Lake trailhead) as a fishing and exploration base camp. Now a subscriber.

      Thanks Grant! Sounds like you had a blast while living up there! I'll check out Dusy Basin and thanks for the Sub!

    The hard part for me on a trail like that would not be the hike it would be not stopping every 30 ft to fish. I would never get to the campsite

    This high sierra scenery never gets old. I assume the "wilderness waggle" was used many times.

    In 1976, I was 18. My dad's buddy took me over the Mono pass into the 1st and 2nd recess, into the Pioneer basin. They warned us the rodents may have the plague. Caught mostly cutthroat and brookies. Very small but tasty fish

    Amazing views, Huck, thank you! I'm really impressed and happy that there's still so much snow up there, should keep those legs nice and full for a while. I haven't been back for a little bit over a year, I think I caught a small golden hybrid in that stream going into Chickenfoot Lake, of course I forgot to take a picture. Thanks again for the video. was there a lot of mosquitoes up there?

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude I couldnt believe how much snow was still there! With all that water it is a bad year for mosquitos! Lots of them out in the meadows!

    Thanks for the video👍🏻 after I saw this I instantly told my buddies and reserved us a spot. One question do I have to reserve a spot for my dog?

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you call in to get your permit, they will ask if you have any dogs. Just let them know then.

    Just wondering what the process is for getting a permit for this trip? Are you able to get it via walk in?

      All the permits for LLV are done online now.

    Do you always cook in the middle of your camp like that? I thought you're supposed to prepare meals at least 100 feet away from your camp to avoid attracting bears. Or is the altitude too high?

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      At this location we were very careful with our food and after talking to the rangers there hadnt been any bears seen up that high in a couple years. For some reason they stay down low in the car camps. Usually we will cook 100-150 feet away from camp.

    If my memory serves me, Heart lake is near the end of the trail ? I remember cutthroat trout there

    Why does no one in your group ever went their hands before handling fish they're gonna release. You take their only defense against bacteria

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some fish are kept for dinner. With barbless hooks some are not touched at all and are released. If I myself are handling the fish and they need to be touched my hands are wet.
