@@lisalim453 Nothing too fancy, but I had an idea for a product I wanted to create. However, as I delved deeper into it, I realised I needed to learn electronic engineering, programming, and manufacturing. My end goal was sketched out on a sheet of paper, laid out like a mind-map with concrete, small goals. For example, building a computer that could communicate over RF frequencies, write a program that can communicate over a network, manufacture a PCB, just to name a few.
The mind-map in its entirety was overwhelming, but the individual tasks were manageable, even if difficult for me at the time. Each task was broken down into prerequisites, like practicing/learning CAD modeling, building a simple circuit using transistors, experimenting with oscilloscopes, and decoding binary signal information.
I think having these small goals helped me feel accomplished, even when I was still years away from realizing or even being able to understand my ultimate goal. At that time, I was still ignorant of many of the skills I would need to learn. Each time I completed one I placed big green tick beside it. I still look at the scrawled out mind-map from time to time.
Ultimately, my end goal turned out to be impractical. A good product, but too expensive and not commercially viable to make a living from. However, the things I learned along the way landed me a job. I used the product, along with its various design documents and prototypes, as part of my portfolio. This eventually led to my current position, which I consider my dream job, a leading role in a famous company.
I approached it as a self-made curriculum with self-directed study and project work.

You can make your final moments as fulfilling as possible. You can leave behind a legacy for your decedents. You can share your story and ease the struggling of others in the future. You can make an impact on this world. Those are always to define beating cancer.
If you’re struggling with cancer, you have my sincerest condolences and I do empathize with you. I also encourage you to join groups of others going through cancer and I promise you’ll find many of these same mental reframing techniques being taught. I can easily think of several medium term life goals not related to making money. “I write a novel” “I develop a portfolio” “I have a strong support network and deeper relationships with loved ones” “I am healed from complex PTSD”.
A life focused on money or things you can get from money is empty and meaningless. The pursuit of money and wealth and material things for its own sake is profoundly empty. You are seeking a feeling of being safe and valued in your endless pursuit of money but money comes and goes and things deteriorate and it will never ever ever feel like it’s enough. Of course it makes sense to want financial stability for security and to allow you pursue other things, but if you have no goals in life other than chasing money and acquiring things to show people how much money you have, it will never be enough. Pursuing money for its own sake is like drinking salt water when you’re thirsty. The more you have, the more desperate you become for more. It will never EVER satisfy you.

Who you are as a person is even influenced by your environment. You'd be completely different if born and raised in a completely different country. This is what he meant. When you aren't born rich, your sole control in your own life for success is limited to a substantial degree because you're working from within society. Absurdly rich people tend to look down on society. They're so rich they're pretty disconnected from it.

Why are we making this about society? The options you have are obviously limited by the society you’re born in. What’s confusing is that the man in the videos is saying to list those options out and execute on them. However, the fellow focused on outside factors has no helpful input and instead criticizes… Why?
What are they gaining from the criticism of the man and not the message?
If I had to boil it down he’s saying “try things and you’ll make progress.” The response is: “ you were lucky, we can’t try.”

Biggest thing that helped me was by drawing an X/Y graph.
    - On the X graph put: 1 year, 3 year, 5 year
    - On the Y graph put: Personal, Professional
In my example I said in 1 year I want to have 100k in my bank for my professional, and I want to get married in my personal. 3 year I said I want to own another business in my professional, and I want to have a home. So on.. It really helped me put things into perspective on how I want to envision my life and what I need to do to get there.
I wrote this just before venturing into my first business and it’s been 2 years. Now (being 100% honest) I don’t have 100k in my account but I’m making over 150k/annual, I’m married and about to have a child.
Life doesn’t go how you expect. Weddings are expensive and business isn’t always profiting. But as you’re trying you adapt and I guess I can say I’m proud of constantly trying (looking back).

@anubhavjn56 The cybertruck is a prime example of ditching the goal, not changing the plan. It promised features that had to change, over promising and underdelivering. Now, they have a poorly done vehicle that will be unlikely to ever recoup all the money that went into its development. Oftentimes, a goal must be removed as it conflicts with other, more achievable and valuable goals.

    • @dingdong467
      @dingdong467 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@aaronmerritt86 I get what you're saying, but you can't compare a business decision with life goals. That decision was trying to win the public, so they buy that truck. A life goal is something you think is going to make you better in the future. If you change your goal, so does your plan. You can't change your goal and not change your plan. But you can change your plan if you have the same goal.
