My thoughts... Love the rod. At this price of course it's great. This is Sage's top tier all purpose rod and they knocked it out of the park with the R8 CORE. I've been fishing it for several months and its a wonderful rod, trustworthy, and it handles some tough jobs of casting my larger flies for trout, bass, and whatever else I decide to throw out.

Excellent! My last 6 weight was a Sage PAYLOAD which was great for Bass but wasn't as versatile as this rod.

The tip looks like it has tons of feel/feedback. I have a few different 6wts and have both Grand and MPX; however, if you're looking for a better line try SA Smooth Creek. If you look at the taper of the line, it's their Mastery ART but shortened to 25'. Essentially, the line looks like a completely integrated Skagit line with a floating tip. The line water loads and will roll cast exceptionally well. I use it for tossing streamers. The color change at 25' just happens to nail the optional load on my different rods. Joe, I always enjoy your videos.

Been using this 5wt rod for almost a year …. Used the Rio gold as that’s what was initially recommended however I’m the odd instance I have found the gold doesn’t always quite load the rod for really in close work …. The Mpx is amazing in this rod especially if you have a more aggressive casting style

Love my R8’s and Arbor xl’s !! The 10’ 4 and 6 weights with FB’s balance with good swing weight with the Arbor xl 6/7/8 reels, for my likings. The 4/5/6 work great on my r8 9’ 4 weight. 4/5/6 4.5 ounces. 6/7/8 6.5 ounces. Thanks for the video!!!!

I'd be willing to bet that a 9 1/2ft or a 10 foot is just as accurate as a 9 foot...I think the difference is that we all grew up on a 9 foot rod, we're all used to feeling the tip and knowing where its at and what to expect with it.

I love my 6wt. w/fighting butt, mostly for nymphing and tossing streamers; it's a Douglas Sky. How does this Sage compare?

Have you cast the nine ft seven weight ? Not sure what to buy six or seven weight,i would be using it on rivers and salt water estuaries for seatrout and light salmon

What are your thoughts on pairing the 6 wt with a sonar trout express 185 grain? Using primarily for streamer fishing for trout.

My thoughts are that I would hate to be a fish near you with that rig.
