      @@BourneOutside yeah, and if I want to do it. I want to hunt when I get the chance to. Filming myself hunting, isn’t the same as me going out and just hunting. As in the video, trying to film a couple of shots, I missed the opportunities at the shots because I was messing about with the camera. About 9 hours worth of overall time went into this snaring vid, and I don’t often get that much free time.

    Good vid , i find rabbits through these warmer months milky and a bit emaciated , ide rather eat em in the colder months when they've accumulated some belly fat , you done good there , the loud squealing a rabbit lets out when first snared usually attracts every fox within a mile 😂 good man checking em dawn and dusk ,

    • @CattyShackHunter
      @CattyShackHunter  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The ground hasn’t been well controlled for around 4 years, so they need controlling right away because of the crop damage. They’re far from emaciated though, kidneys surrounded in fat, they’re living well! I’ve lost one to a fox so far, but now you’ve said it…

    Great video! I hunt for food in the Uk but am very careful to be ethical harvesting. Do you find majority/all are dead when you pick them up? Sorry if this is a tricky question just wanting to diversify my food gathering (just bought one of your eco carry's ;) ) cheers mate !

    • @DannyBaron-h3t
      @DannyBaron-h3t 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Also are the snares bought and if so from where? And how do you prevent catching non target species?

    • @CattyShackHunter
      @CattyShackHunter  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@DannyBaron-h3t yes, all dead. The snare catches around the neck. Setting the snare height is very important to the individual run, but if the rabbit somehow hops through, the noose generally isn’t able to close small enough, easily enough to snag them by the leg. You need to read your runs and signs properly (rabbit activity, droppings, crop damage, size of the run, actually seeing rabbits using the runs), to ensure you’re setting to catch your target species. You can use deer stops on your snares, which is law in some parts of the UK, to avoid any larger animal being caught by the leg, if you’re setting on open runs. But realistically, you’re never going to catch a fox, or deer around the neck in a rabbit snare.

    • @CattyShackHunter
      @CattyShackHunter  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cheers mate. Without seeing how it’s all set out, the runs, the fence, the land either side of the fence etc, it’s impossible to say. I don’t know how or where you were setting them.

    • @pelletandferretpestcontrol7367
      @pelletandferretpestcontrol7367 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CattyShackHunter I'm in Devon and Cornwall hunting it's large square sheep fencing and I normally set every other run that looks good I put them on the fence but would you put them in front on a teler and peg

    • @CattyShackHunter
      @CattyShackHunter  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@pelletandferretpestcontrol7367 I’d always prefer to put them on a run if possible, but that depends how high the grass / cover is on the run, and also if there’s any possibility of a sheep being caught in one. You can always use snare stops to avoid that though. If the grass is really short, I’d prefer to set them on the fence, but without seeing where and how you’re setting them, I can’t say for sure what and where’s best.
