Hi Jonathan Can I say that I am new to watching walking videos on utube. Yours were the first that I watched. I have watched many others since and have come back to thank you. There is so much dross out there, a term that cannot be applied to you. Thanks again. Tim Nottingham.
Jonathan, not a problem. I love walking in Wiltshire (I live in Nottingham), but am out of action with a bruised foot (over walking!!), but being an OAP I travel around Wiltshire on the bus based in Swindon. It's amazing how varied your travels can be from the hub that is Swindon bus station. Tim Williams
Yes I heard the bit about the Romans too, they are locally known. As Roman snails and supposed to be a great source of protein, but I can not personally contest to that.
Looks like a very nice walk. Thoroughly enjoyed watching your video - nice commentary, footage and stills. I’m tempted to have a go at some point. Great achievement. Thanks for sharing your walk…
really enjoyed your video I will do the trail next month and appreciated seeing your wild camps as thats the way I will do it. I did SDW Oct 2021 and wild camped 4 of 6 nights so appreciated your comparison comments 👍✔
Thank you! I’m in USA and for sure considering this trail as want to get to England. Best idea on when is “ best “ weather versus the least ( or less) day hikers/ crowds? I would fly into London and do SoBo like you backpacking. Thanks! Dr. Bryan
Hi Dr Bryan, the best months for weather is May to September but our school holidays are from the end of July through August so more people. Having said that the trail is only busy in small sections near car parks, people do not walk far. I probably saw fewer than five people walking the whole walk. Hope you enjoy it.
@@JonathanDowe Thanks for your quick response, Jonathan and that sounds great. I’ll check out your other videos and will subscribe! Btw, I thought your filming was excellent and so enjoyed your “ happy dance 🕺🏿 “ at the mid point!! Thanks again!!!
Well done Jonathan for completing the cotswold way especially in 5 days, that's some serious Miles a day over challenging hills. Loved the video and thanks for sharing, big thumbs up. Shame fox knicked your breakfast, I didn't chuckle honest 😉. Was great to see some of the finishing miles. Well done again Atb Dave aka wackyswanderings
We all have different paces it’s getting out there that’s important, wild camping helps as I don’t have to move far from the trail. Off to the West Highland Way next month doing that over 5 days too.
@@JonathanDowe I walked the route 3 years ago. I was also fairly surprised by how steep some of the climbs were, I had a bit of a laugh watching your film as I remembered some of the seemingly never ending hills!
Hi I have watched few of your videos and can I say this is the most professionally done. That comment is a pat on the back and not a criticism of your other videos. Have you tried the River Avon trail starting in Pewsey to Salisbury? Keep up the good work. Tim Nottingham
@@JonathanDowe I live quite close to Bath and I'm a keen wild camper / hiker so the trail is definitely one on my list. Your schedule and where you camped looks good. However I'm not sure I could manage 5 days of 20 miles per day without building up to it. I could do 15 based on current fitness but 20 might be pushing it.
@@jawa134 it is always best to know you limits, I have come unstuck before (see White Horse Trail PT 1 ). If you can get up to 17 miles you could go for 6 days and as you live in the area keep a couple of exit options up your sleeve (I know I do).
Another interesting video Jonathan. I won’t be doing the Cotswold Way but it was lovely to see your journey. I know what you mean about being forced to walk along with other people. It’s impossible not to walk with them. I bet the dogs were pleased to see you return.
i did half of the cotswolds way this summer, stroud to bath, coming back next summer to do chipping campden to stroud, undecided whether to just do it all though as we loved it so much
It is a lovely trail, I recently did the Ridgeway part of which I had walked before. There was something nice about walking the bits I had done before.
@@ManicBeans thanks, glad you enjoy them. Next month is another section of the SWC, probably last overnight walk of this year. Probably do some gear reviews over winter though.
That was quite an achievement . . . a good assessment of the walk. This was my first long distance route. We took much longer to do it. As you say very varied and hilly.
Morning Jonathan. Great video again, loved the jig at the halfway point, it did make me chuckle. I have a couple of questions for you please. What was your bag weight for the start of the journey? And what boots do you wear for your adventures please? Thanks.
Morning Ivor, this trip was the last one I used my Exos 48 so my bag weight would have been about 12kg, as for foot ware I use Ultra Lone Peaks (currently 5.0) and have no problems. If it’s wet I used Sealskin waterproof socks and have recently started using injinja liner socks which I am very happy with. Hope this of some use.
@@JonathanDowe thank you Jonathon. Your advice is priceless as I'm just starting my backpacking/hiking hobby 👍🏻, you guys are very inspirational indeed thanks
I honestly don’t, it’s a brilliant tent for the money. It’s foot print size make it great for wild camping but still enough room for me and my kit inside. I did a video on it on my channel, in which I did complain I couldn’t get the door to stay rolled up but finally on this trip I sussed it. If you are buying it in the UK it will not be seam sealed but that’s easily sorted. It is single skin and you sometimes need a cloth to wipe the inside in the morning, more so on a grassy field, but these days I nearly always have at least one door open which helps. I would practice pitching it a few times before going on a trip there is a knack, but again there are videos which help. Enjoy.
Really enjoyed this, a really helpful and interesting video, thank you.
Good walk, and a nice film. Thanks for sharing.

Great effort, enjoyed the watch, we walk the path in a series of roundish walks , I believe the large snails were left by the Romans

Thank you, it is a lovely. Not as busy as the West Highland Way which I see you have also completed, I am just sorting out the footage from that one.

Enjoyed your video, Jonathan. I took 8 days and was physically exhausted by the end so I don't know how 5 days would feel. Good stuff!

Thanks and welcome, I did this walk the end of June 2021. The weather was very kind as you can tell from the video.
Hi Jonathan I see you are ok with camping in the woods at night . I was always told not to in case a branch fell off and hit your tent at night?
It’s a possibility of course, but I always check for widow makers and in most woodlands you can find a bit of a clearing.
29. Crickley Hill cafe
Crickley Hill not Chrinkley Hill and it’s the Cotswold way not Cotswolds Way 👍
