Frank's the treat and Carl the bonus, great stuff from a bunch of musicians at the top of their game, thanks to the Duke for giving us this lovely tune.
frank and carl are 1 and 1A in no order. apples and bananas- equally phenomenal and uniquely identifiable. frank hit a home run statement w his 1st 4 notes of his solo. yes, the horn backgrounds during frank's solo were beyond annoying and played waaay too loud. they should have been just standing there, captivated by what he played on the trombone with their jaw hanging down to the stage floor going whaaaa??? the background they played for bobby bryant was much more fitting for frank's solo.. when bobby was thrashing around up high, that 1st loud B/G background would have been better. then carl played a uniqely special entrance to his unbelievable solo- very carlish. i had the opportunity to play with CF a few times when i lived in las vegas, along with carl saunders. i also played with frank 7 days before his passing. the experience was with the chubby and duffy jackson big band at the swiss chalet in miami w vinnie tanno, arnett cobb, danny turner (lead alto w basie), jay corre, phil gilbert and john georgini. thanks for the great memories. i blindfolded one of my 11th grade "jazz" students with a clip of frank blazing with both guns, and he said "who is thaaattt?" i said you have not been doing your listening homework!
Bobby Bryant...Moving! Similar sound, but better in some ways, to some of our current modern trumpeters! Wonderful! Carl melts your soul with those note choices and pure control!
Very relaxed session. Not everything needs to be @300 bpm! I think the band riffing behind Rosolino was a rude imposition on his ideas! Ditto for Fontana's solo. [Carl is Frank with the "crusts" sliced off]. ;)
+Gerald Nichols yeah 2 bad i was to high in volume. man i came here for some rosolino but dang what a player that Pete Christlieb. is this really 1968?
+Chad Carden It's in Db on the recording that we are hearing but it's typical that the keys change depending on if it is actually playing back slower or faster than the original recording. It's originally in C, so a 1/2 step off makes sense.
Man! What a session! All these cats are what keep bars alive.
Great session and captured live too! Lots of them are gone now and this is a treasure to keep for sure!

Wonderful
Carl Fantana is fantastic!

Thanks for posting. Uncle was my uncle and I so enjoy hearing new music I have not heard before with Frank.

Fontana: so naturaly.
@ 11 32 Carl quoted Candy
The name of the album is Jazz For A Sunday Afternoon. The other song is Staight No Chaser and they play it up.
8:53 - 9:00 "Things Ain't What They Used To Be"; great quote!
Top demais me amarro nesse som

Too good!

Carl is Carl! And Frank is Frank
Oh yeah!!!...
Cool!
Bon voyage...
Is Carl quoting something at 11:32
+ben lupinacci At 11:14 he is quoting "It's Easy To Remember" at 11:32 it sounds like he is doing something but I can pinpoint it.
ben lupinacci Sounds like Laura to me, i could be wrong
Yeah it's Jim! That tune Clark Terry plays or Sarah Vaughan sings
The tune "Candy".
What album is this and where can I find it?????
Who is the drummer ??
Is this really in D-flat?
probably in C
Indeed, its in d-flat
Actually, it probably was in C. When you record on tape, then digitize it it can speed it up so it sounds a half step higher
What key is this in?
+Chad Carden It's in Db on the recording that we are hearing but it's typical that the keys change depending on if it is actually playing back slower or faster than the original recording. It's originally in C, so a 1/2 step off makes sense.
Could have done without the fill-in's but nicely played, trumpets and reeds always try to take over, trombones rule, the Duke lives.
To bad frank was totally covered up..
too bad he killed one of his kids and shot the other in the head causing him blindness. www.jazzmasters.nl/rosolino.htm
Bobby Plays first!
Sweets didn't have
those chops or sound!
wrong
+Rich Pulin Booby was way more more bluesy than Sweets. Sweets went first.
so, who was it after all?
Rich Pullin, Edison sounded great & a great experience to hear him. I came hear to hear Rosolino, it was a surprise & pleasure to see Edison.
You are WRONG!!!!!...The order is CORRECT!!
too fast
Judging from the Age of this recording, they probably digitized it and that would speed it up so it sounds higher and faster than the original.
I like Db major so this version also sounds nice to me :)
