    So much damn warming up .
    Damn . I just swing my arms back and forth two times and start my working sets lol .

      StaticDreamsEntert maybe not. Alan has ditched all this mobility work since working with Austin. He only does warm up sets with lighter weights

    • @JesseGilbride
      @JesseGilbride 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Warmup sets really do help. It's not just about blood flow, it also primes your CNS and helps establish mind-muscle connection, which will enhance the working set.

    • @frysebox1
      @frysebox1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I always start with an empty barbell, except for the deadlifts, then continue to add plates (10, 15, 20kg plates depending on the exercise and target weight) to whatever your working set weight is, and perform at least 1-5 reps on every intermediate stage.
      A deadlift session with 180kg working weight would look like this: 60kg (two 20kg's), 100kg (four 20kg's), 140kg (six 20kg's), and then from there either go directly to 180kg for x amount of reps for y sets, or go for a single or double at 160-170kg or something just to test the waters and feel out your form that day. I don't count these sets as part of the total working sets.
      As someone else said, this primes your CNS and muscle mind connection which will help a lot on the working sets especially if you're trying to push PRs that day, in addition to that if you feel that anything is off you'll discover it during the warmup and not at full weight which lowers the risk/severity of injury by a large margin... It's absolutely work the 2-3 extra minutes it takes in the long run in stead of just slapping all the weight on the bar and hoping for the best. Apart from this I just do some dynamic stretching, not old and seasoned/damaged enough to bother with all the fancy foam rolling stuff yet 8)

    One thing that I am fascinated with his OHP is the use of deltoids. When most lift, they lean back and use their back to be able to assist with some of the weight. Thrall, on the other hand, makes a consistent use of his shoulders by being able to push the weight back over his head rather than be leaning back to catch the weight.
    Awesome.

Thank you and excellent work. Here goes my question: two of my loves in life are powerlifting and firearms. Since your a Marine, I cannot help but to be curious as to your stance on firearms and what are some of your personal preferences to rifles. You have a mix between a front squat and a press grip and has alot of flexion at the bottom. Could be contributing to your forearm issues. Good luck brother.

    Alan, do band tricep pushdowns, with aiming around 100 reps with as fast speed as possible, it helps recovering elbows(joint, tendons) faster.

  • @bryandondero
    @bryandondero 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the elbow pain - lateral epicondylagia I'm guessing - is likely due to your grip choice. Keeping the thumb on the same side of the fingers causes you to over extend at the wrist in order to support the bar/weight, which is placing a great load/tension on the extensor muscles causing them to wail on the common extensor tendon attachment. Elongating the proximal part of the tendon while stretching under that load puts a tremendous amount of force on the lateral epicondyle. It's kind of causing an active/passive insufficiency at the same time. Anyway, that is my theory. Hope you are pain free soon! Maybe an injury/recovery video would be in order.... Love the videos, keep em coming!

      I think he did a video called like " when its ok for form to break" or something. the knee drive just helps get him to lockout a bit faster. From a bodybuilding standpoint its probably not very beneficial but for powerlifting training every pound added to the bar is a good thing. Also keep in mind this dude just did an entire press day lol thats pretty rough to keep strict pressing it

      that's a "push press." like a strict OHP, but with the leg assistance. allows you to press a little more, putting more stress on in the top position.

    Hey Alan... elbow pain can be caused by an imbalance between flexor and extensor muscles in the hands. All of those insert in and around the elbow. get a rubber band around your finger tips and spread 'em!

    Nice touch minimizing the stretch reflex at the bottom, your pause is short but it's there, very strict solid form.

    Why do you incorporate 5x20 hammerswings at the end?
    Is one of the reasons associated with how tree chopping or similar movements somehow increarses serum testosterone in males?

    0:54 That's literally me warming up. I'm over here whistling Dixie to The Stones in my headphones, blissfully unaware that everyone else can hear me. While the little horde of white girls next to me are doing pretzel stretches like "WTF?" . 🤣

    Lifting off blocks looks like a good idea.Trying to re rack after lifting to almost failure wastes energy between sets for me.Much easier to just drop the bar.
