My Jewish father owned a thrift-shop in Kensington Market around 2002 called "YO"! He passed away over ten years ago but this video brings back many fond memories. Love it.

Boy, did this youtube bring back memories! The Menik Chicken store, second floor, in the Kensington market was where my folks first lived when I was born some 86 years ago. My mother used to travel down to the market to shop for chicken and meat by street car from up on St Clair Ave. once a week after we had moved. I remenber that Rabbi Wolgelertner was the shochet next door to Melnik's where Ma would go to have her live chickens' throats slit. She would also buy "crek eggs' there because the were cheaper. I also remember my cousin ( twice removed) Natty Briks' Z'L bar mitvah at the Minsker Shul and my great aunt Leah who lived on Nassau ( Nesse ) Street not far from Halpern's drug store at the corner on
    Spadina.

I lived in Toronto briefly in 2010. I stayed at my friends' place in Kensington for 2 weeks until I found my own place. It was a really cool hood

Awesome! Loved it! As a part-time, some-time, maybe-one-day occasional visitor to Tarana, I loved it and learned a lot. Reminded me a lot of my ancestral stomping grounds, Lombard Street in Bawmer. One day I'll stop in and davven with Rabbi Spero, im yirtseh ha-Shem.

I absolutely love the video. I have to come and visit Canada especially Kensington. So much history, I am always fascinated by the Jewish religion.

That's hilarious! Gebildet actually means "educated" in Yiddish. So they immortalized the wrong word on the Synagogue, or a Yinglish word....
