Does twist knob just adjust amount of c02 in tank ir allow you yo turn off at night when lights are out.

Had tested that too! But it causes leakage. So it's not easy to regulate CO2 flow in this method. At night you can just transfer the CO2 flow in to other tank or raise the diffuser level to surface.

Turning of completely isn't possible it leads to knob damage or leak in tubing joints.or air tube will crack and leak. They can't withstand that high pressure as they or not specifically designed for that purpose.
We can regulate some amount of CO2 that won't work properly.
