  • Gratitude Amidst Scarcity: Reflections from Mardi Himal High Camp
As I sit down to reflect on my recent trekking experience to the high camp of Mardi Himal, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the simple luxuries that we often take for granted in our daily lives. The journey to the high camp was not just a physical challenge but a profound lesson in appreciating the abundance we have at our fingertips.
Nestled amidst the majestic Himalayan peaks, the Mardi Himal high camp offers breathtaking views that leave you in awe of nature's grandeur. But along with the beauty comes a stark reality - scarcity. Up there, everything seemed scarce compared to the comforts of urban living.
Water, the elixir of life, became a precious commodity at the high camp. Dehydration loomed as a constant threat, reminding me of the sheer luxury of having clean, drinkable water available with a simple turn of the tap. Unlike at home, where water is abundant and easily accessible, here it required effort and resources to obtain.
Cold water, though essential for survival, was hard to consume due to its temperature. Boiling water became a necessity to make it safe for drinking. But in a place where wood and resources were scarce, even this simple task proved to be a challenge. It made me realize how fortunate I am to have access to modern amenities that make life easier and safer.
The scarcity extended beyond just water. Basic necessities like food, shelter, and warmth became invaluable treasures amidst the harsh terrain. Every meal, cooked with limited ingredients, felt like a feast. Each warm layer of clothing provided solace from the biting cold, a stark reminder of the privilege of having a roof over my head and a well-stocked pantry back home.
Yet, amidst the scarcity, there was an abundance of something else - gratitude. Gratitude for the breathtaking beauty surrounding me, for the camaraderie of fellow trekkers sharing this journey, and for the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Every step taken, every drop of water consumed, was a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the human body and mind.
As I descended from the high camp, back to the comforts of civilization, I carried with me a newfound appreciation for the abundance in my life. The experience at Mardi Himal high camp served as a poignant reminder to cherish the simple pleasures and to never take anything for granted. It's not just about surviving in scarcity but thriving in gratitude for the abundance that surrounds us every day.
