    I would like to point out the overall quality of your videos: the direction, music and overall mood persuades me that you respect me as your viewer. These videos do take an effort to make and are like little holidays in my life. I come back to your older videos from time to time.
    Speaking of focal lengths, it's interesting that 28 mm feels like an extremely universal and "natural" focal length (no wonder it is used as a standard focal length in smartphones), but 24 mm doesn't feel that way. Also 40 mm feels more universal than 50 (even though 50 mm can do so many things better than 40 mm). And for me personally 75 mm doesn't feel telephoto enough, for telephoto I'd choose 135 mm.

    • @eortizfoto
      @eortizfoto  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks a million for all your support and beautiful comments!
      Yes! 28mm definitely feels so natural as most main camera phones use this focal length. 24mm already introduces too much distortion, but maybe one day it'll be otherwise. I don't like ""in between" focal lengths so much, I feel lost with a 40... it's almost like a 35... almost like a 50mm I cant get my head around it

    • @kalistratov_photos
      @kalistratov_photos ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eortizfoto you're welcome! Distortion and taking too much into frame were the reason I sold my 16 2.8 and switched to 18 1.4 lens.
      I'd get the pancake 2.0 because of the weight, but the weather conditions are not that good where I live so I try to get weather resistant gear.

    • @eortizfoto
      @eortizfoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think weather sealing is overrated! It's a bonus, but not a must. I have a 23mm f1.4 that survived a dip into the Ganga River.... and never worry about rain with my 18mm as well.@@kalistratov_photos

    My preferred focal length is 35/40mm. Between a 24/28mm and 50mm.
    50 makes it really hard in tight spaces when you're really close to the subject. My limit is 40mm.

    • @eortizfoto

      I can’t get my head around “in between” focal lengths like the 40mm…I can’t “see” in those.

    Wish I could give more, but hope that a cup of coffee will at least express my thanks for masterfully articulating and illustrating your thought process to choosing the lens choice.
    May I ask, if for example I’m in a city where everything is fairly close (depth wise), I might go with a wider lens to capture more area. But in an open area such as the city above where there is much depth between the figure background, a longer lens would work better to express that depth?
    Sorry for the questions, I’ve been shooting for a long time, but I’ve never actually stopped to “think” about it till recently.

    • @eortizfoto
      @eortizfoto  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly! A longer lens could help to highlight the depth of a place in a better way. But it all depends on how you compose using it.

    28mm and 50mm are a perfect kit! So versatile. 28 can easily be cropped to 35-40 and 50 to 70. Digital teleconverter is your friend. Only thing is, on Fuji I don't like the 18mm f2 pancake for autofocus and picture quality. I think I might get the 18mm 1.4, but that one I feel is too heavy… I will have to test it at my local store with my XT-5 and decide then.

    Nicce video. I found your channel through the search on X-pro2 😊
    Regarding focal length, do you perhaps feel that a prime looks smarter? As both your style and high f-stops suggest to me that the 18-55 would be a very good choice.
    I have both the 35mm 1.4 and the 18-55mm. I love the 35mm but find the 18-55 more versatile in old cities with narrow streets.
    I would love a video on your workflow!

    • @eortizfoto
      @eortizfoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Look smarter? Could you explain that pls?
      I think you probably use your zoom at 18mm most of the time, is that so?
      In that case I would advice you to get the 18mm as it is lighter and has one more stop of light to play with. A great all rounder would be the 23mm f2, I just don’t have it because I own the f1.4 version.

    • @bennielaars
      @bennielaars ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eortizfoto with smarter I mean more impressive or professional but not in a negative way.
      I use my zoom at various viewing angles so not just widest. I can quickly switch from wide view to isolate and back, can’t do that with a prime.
      I do also enjoy walking around with only my 35 as that brings back memories to my film days when all we had to begin with, was a 50mm.

      You’re right, I’m always talking about full frame equivalents. Sorry if it wasn’t clear enough. I would say the x100 feels unbalanced with the convertor, I’d go for a 18mm, plus you can find those lenses darn cheap.

    El 28 y el 50 son perfectos!
    Cuando fui a NYC el 28mm fue excelente para capturar todo, el dinamismo de la gente, lo grande de los edificios, poner mas contexto.
    Pero me pasa que en cuidades mas pequeñas de norteamerica, como Ottawa, donde todo esta mas espaciado el 28mm queda muy angular, incluye demasiado. Ahi es cuando el 35mm entra a brillar.
    En Santiago me pasaba lo mismo, tenia que usar el 35mm, aunque las cosas no estaban tan lejos entre si.
    Me encanto la forma en lo que lo elaboraste, no es el lente el que define, es el ambiente el que define el lente.
