    I think that King Tut is the best villain , outside of the "Big Four", in the series. I would rank Victor Beuno's performance as King Tut as classic, right up there close to the "Big Four". He was evil and nefarious, but very funny. Victor Bueno said he enjoyed it because they let him overact.

    What made Tut one of the better villains outside of the big four (Joker, Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman) was the way Victor Buono played him. He didn't try to be too serious even for a series as campy as this, and enjoyed the opportunity to overact as much as he wanted. The way his character sometimes later alternated in his acting the part out makes you easily believe that he was a man with a split (possibly multiple) personalities, while again not being too serious. I don't think the role would have been anywhere near as enjoyable if anyone other than Buono played Tut.

    That ending to thie episode is probably my favorite ending to any Batman episode ever. King Tut episodes are clearly the best out of the series, the fact that he has a split personality makes it all the more tragic. And to know that he doesn't know what happens when he is the reincarnated King Tut is really sad.

      Yes, he was easily the best villain in the series.

    Since King Tut is from old ancient Egypt, how was he able to drive the Batmobile, since cars didn't exist back then?

    I sort of figure there is a temp agency for hired thugs. Yeah, you have a wear a goofy outfit and surrender your name, but they have a great pension plan. Whoever runs it just goes down the list when contacted. "Hey, Marv, I've got a gig for you. No, it's not the Joker; I still remember you're sore about that hand buzzer thing. No, it's the Penguin. I remember you special because you listed opening umbrellas on your resume. Standard rates, plus a bonus depending on his haul. You'll be going by "Dove". You will? Great, I'll have Liz iron on the name in the outfit. Penguin is dropping by at 5:00 to get his crew, so I need you here by 4:00 to insure the fit of your costume and do any alterations."
    It was considerate of the kidnappers to leave Bruce alone for a few minutes so Batman could take his place. Of course, if they expected that gang to buy a dummy was actually Bruce Wayne, you have to wonder why he just didn't put the transmitter in the suit pocket or something and follow via Batmobile. I guess it's not just the villains that can over-complicate the plot.

      I frequently wondered that, too. The Joker started to one time and failed. The rest of them were to focused on absurd, overly-complex ways of disposing of them. I suppose if one of them did unmask him, then he'd have to throw them in the batcopter and take them to an abandoned shack on a high mountain and - wait, that was something else.

    The funny thing is that Victor Buono does reprise this character in a later season so I guess he liked it but I do agree that Tut is rather a let down.

    I always thought the scene where Batman gets bonked on the head would have worked better if the henchmen had seen his cape sticking out of the blanket rather than them conveniently reading some religious prophecy and taking a lucky swing

    Glad to see, by the third season, they were comfortable enough to offer the female viewers some eye candy by having shirtless male actors. Too bad they could not have done that with Batman or Robin, but I guess they were still worried about the trouble their tights were causing with the Legion of Decency.

    I do like this episode. But you can tell it's King Tut's first one. Victor Buono is still finding the character and he isn't improvising so much. Ziva Rodham as Nefertiti actually helps out a lot with the comedy here. All of King Tut's later episodes (including the two season 3 ones) are notably better.

      @@dwashbur Not a problem. It is funny if you think about it. For so long, they promised Zsa Zsa Gabor a role. And they finally squeezed her in on the very last episode. Although, I can't help but wonder if she may have been a tad insulted. Yea. They finally kept their word, but think about it. 'Well, we're giving you the role because we promised you. Also, we want to be able to concentrate on farewell jokes and saying goodbye. So we don't want a villain who will draw so much attention." What do you think Irving? :)

      Mostly, it's the only dance he knows. It's also quite dumb, a pantomime that describes his costume.

    Where Tut got the money? Why does he have henchmen acting like ancien Egyptians? I wonder about that myeself, not just about Tut but about all the villains. The henchmen are like mercenaries. They don't care if Tut is crazy. Nor they care about acting like idiots worshiping Tut like he was God. They just want their share of the loot. They don't care about anything. All henchmen working for any given villain are like that. Where Tut got the money? Where all the other villains get the money for that matter? Villains usually hide at some abandoned place. And somehow they all get electricity, a phone line and furnitures.

    • @dwashbur
      @dwashbur 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The big four villains, at least, are all supposed to be rich already. In canon, Penguin and Catwoman are just greedy, Riddler wants to incite chaos, and Joker is just bat **** crazy.

    • @Anne.6.28
      @Anne.6.28 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dwashbur Catwoman says she is a school drop out when Bruce Wayne becomes her parole officer. In the comics she has been everything you can possibly imagine except rich. Penguin came from a rich family according to the Michael Keaton movie. But his parents got rid of him because he was half human/ half animal. Edward Nygma was a brilliant scientist who just happens to be completly insane. This according to the Val Kilmer movie. Joker has always been a criminal.

    • @dwashbur
      @dwashbur 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody is sure where the Michael Keaton movie got that idea, but they were the only ones. In the comics he's a successful criminal, likewise the other three. The movies took a few liberties, though for the most part they did a decent job of it.
