All the dump trucks around here in robeson county are contracting with the NCDOT. They just came by the house last week cutting down the shoulders of the road. Everyone was contacted trucks, motor grader and flaggers. Supervisor and belt loader was the only state employee.
I worked for two years in a sand mine in Florida loading trucks everyday. Drivers are some of the most aggravating people you will ever work with in your life. I had some drivers that nailed it every time and some never cared to talk to you and get to know your loading style. I made sure they were loaded heavy on one side to make steering the truck all the more fun not to mention when DOT got them.
Hi Chris. Great vidz operator myself over in new zealand but originally from Scotland. Currently operating a Volvo 350d nice machine to operate comfortable and smooth great on fuel. Dumptruck drivers are like lost sheep they just follow the 1 in front buddy 😀. Take care keep up the great work and videos. Willie.

STAY SAFE DURING THE STORM, CHRIS. Find high ground away from streams and rivers and have all your supplies handy (generator, flashlights, food, water, portable radio, gas, rain gear, rope for rescues.....).You know the drill, lol.
nice size bucket on that... usually run a 160 or 180 and takes about 12-14 buckets...have a hammerhead job upcoming.. looking forward to it... tearing up a runway then sampling ground water under it...

Your what 150 miles from impact, be safe out there Chris. Last year Irma's eye went right over my house, did a good enough mess of my yard. Most of my Live Oaks leaves went missing, really looked like a war zone.

Don't see trucks here in NZ with those funny looking trainer wheels, these days there is an extra load sharing axle because they allowed extra weight on the roads a few years ago. Great video bro

Dirt is one commodity that does not follow the normal supply and demand economic models. There is an infinite supply (of dirt) which means it (dirt) should be uber cheap. However, if you want to buy some you have to pay through your nose to get it. If you have some to get rid of it (dirt) should sell at a good price. However, you will never find a buyer at any price. The only one who makes money dealing in dirt is the excavator. You pay him to haul yours out and somebody else pays him (the excavator) to have.it dumped at his place. Crazy.
you're not factoring in not all dirt is equal. some is unsuitable for most things, no one wants it. some is great fill, and costs to bring in. easy to sell. also, sometimes you need it gone NOW. no luxury to let it sit for a buyer, need to haul it out to complete the project. so many factors.
I live in Argentina, something far from there, and it's the same thing with dirt. If you are the owner of the dirt for you it will be a waste and for the machinery guy it will be a gift, which then can, sell
It aint to often you get to sell it to a customer as the same time your trying to get rid of it off another job. Once in awhile it happens but not often. I know been there done that excavation for 32 yrs and still ripping
if you can sell it on top of the truck as we say here, it's easy money, but as you say, it does not always happen, but you have to know that some materials are difficult to sell, and you have to store them and for that you need a specific place and everything that entails
You’d love working the Foxconn site in Wisconsin. They average a dump every 20-30 seconds. Call it the quad show. And a show it is. Then add about 20 haul trucks if not more, 30 scrappers and probably 20 dozers. It gets interesting. That’s just the start, suppose to double or triple those amounts.

Been waiting for this with that hurricane coming knew that you would want to get as much as you could out before it hit. The lost time with drivers not having a procedure for incoming and out going cost you 1 load as you filled at a rate of 2 minutes that's a lot of loads per day. When I was driving a quad I took 20 tons out where ever I went. Sand,asphalt,rock,dirt didn't matter to me. 🤷♂️. When sc was in a state of emergency because of a hurricane we was hauling 95,000 pounds of rip rap to fill in rail roads that washed out.
As somebody who works with truck drivers all day, almost everyday, operating a counterbalance, I can confirm that no two truck drivers are the same, even over the pond here in Blighty 🇬🇧
Hehe. You mentioned that the drivers changed their orientation from side-on to facing away from you. I suspect that's because you were dropping dirt, rocks, logs on their tires. They don't like buying new tires!

Chris, I would say that if all the drivers are from the same company and have radios they should use them so that they can maneuver and quadrant their movements in the area so they don't slow down the process
I haven't researched legal tonnage in Texas, but I just finished a demo yesterday...had one of the 40 yard dumpsters packed so tight it ended up right at 18 tons. Dang roll off truck almost couldn't get it off the ground. I'm sure he was at or close to the legal limit...but I'm not 100% sure.
And New Jersey permits licensing for 80 K GVW for the same sort of truck with only 4 axles ( and 12-14 tires ) ! Wish most of my loads ( in the same style truck ) were that light if it was a load count rate ! Most often I was at least 1K over 80 bushel and my personal high was 105 K on a 28.5 K tare .

Is that weight restriction all the time down there or do they have one in effect at this time?? If so why do they use dump trucks that can haul more. Sorry if it's a dumb question I'm not in the hauling business and don't know the regulations down there(michigan here)

northstar2007 i know when we do it and send to a landfill we get weight records of every dump and use a conversion of 1.6 / 1.7 / or 1.8 tons per yard. Depending on the material. If he’s dealing with a pit or another source it’s by bucket volume and guessing a lot haha

Depends on the jobs nearby. Sometimes other jobs need fill. Other times your paying for a yard to take it.

I've towed tri axles in new jersey that were pushing 100k ons. Its definitely a lot different hauling up here

We get 76650 on triaxle. And 105,000 on our dump trailers allowed with just a 12/40 horse and 2 axle dump. Can haul bout 35 ton legal
