Hey, I'm Alex. It was supposed to be one of the happiest nights of my life. The house was glowing with warm light, and the smell of roasted chicken filled the air. I was setting the table with our best china, rehearsing the speech in my head.

REGARDLESS OF COLOR, CULTURE OR ETHNICITY, YOU HAVE TO BE TRUE TO YOURSELF. LOVE WHO WANT AND EVERYTHING ELSE WILL FALL INTO PLACE.

No. There are ethnic backgrounds in my husband's and my life, my daughter and her 1st husband's life. As my daughter and I look back we see the love, our beautiful children, and the happiness I have and she lost. Not black and white ethnicities, but for me it was a 1/3 Native American and for her it was Vietnamese. Both are/were wonderful husbands. The same is happening in my grand children's lives. Molds can be broken and traditions incorporated into each family.

A person should be true to their innermost self. I was and as a result was estranged from my father for the rest of his life. He missed out on seeing our children, their successes and failures. It was his own bigotry that caused it.
My mother was and remains my rock. Jessicas father accepted me as his own. Her mother and my mother are close.
