As an irish fan i would always be careful what way you interpret the phrase 'nothing to lose', especially against an English team, both Northampton and quins are semi finalists for a reason and either of them can win this weekend, all the pressure is on leinster and toulouse being at home so all to play for, croke park will have 82+ thousand supporters for a club match, that's more than rugby world cup final, should be a fascinating game.
This was a brilliant discussion about the state of European rugby
No easy games in the Semi Finals of the Champions Cup, everyone is there on merit.
The 3 other provinces have had their own big foreign signings and it wasn’t that long ago Munster had the majority of central contracts!!
seems a bit unbalanced eg 1 out of 4 teams has 80 of first 23 paid for would leave a lot of extra money to go around for coaches etc so a cap of 7 or 8 players who dont come from catchment area would make sense! otherwise leinster are pretty much the argentina situation in super rugby! wales/ scotland and italy should just stack one team then!
Can we just please give Wills the keys to World Rugby? Speaks with knowledge and clarity and common sense and passion about the game. He'd sort out the long-running issues in rugby in 10 minutes. Always great to listen to him.
Amazing comments from Shaggy on the 2009 season, the years flooded back; 15 years ago, wow...
Loved this.
Will Greenwood is just a top pundit - love to listen to him.
I'm surprised that no one mentionned the fact that the quins-toulouse match up happened during the pool stages and the quins lost at home 19 - 47. Or maybe I missed the moment they did
Only 13 central contracts, not 20. 10 from Leinster and 1 from each of the other provinces.
Love this.
Shane Horgan must not check in with the media, Leinster already announced they will be playing multiple game in Croke Park next season while the RDS is being renovated so while this is a huge game they will be able to experience it again next season
You sure it's not the Aviva not Croke Park?
@@billbobby461 Most home games will be played at the Aviva but for some of the bigger games they will be played at Croke Park
@@billbobby461he's very sure. Its been said and also Leinster Rugby has said as much, in the emails sent to season ticket holders. Most of the games will be held at the aviva stadium, and the big champions cup games will be held at Croke Park. And some knock out League games games and so on.
Ah he genuinely doesn't think he has a real job though so a fair enough excuse
@@billbobby461 Yes most games will be in the Aviva but some will be in croke park.
FILL IN THE BLANKS 👀 The Investec Champions Cup 2024 final will be between _________ & ___________
Quins and saints 🎉
Leinster & Toulousain
High Rd and Worcester Ave?
Quins and Leinster
Great show as always Guys, thank you. Just some interesting observations, the only discussion about sending under-strength team for matches surrounds the SA teams, the Bulls and "what team will the Sharks send for the semi" Fine for Leinster to send its 2nd string side to SA and get whipped twice!! Teams prioritise the competition they think they can best win, Leinster try for both and in 22 and 23 won neither, maybe 24 its the Investec Cup? So, in SA's first 2 years with the URC has seen an all-SA final in 22 and a finalist in 23, (who knows what 24 holds) probably increased the TV viewership and match day attendance as well. Can't be all that bad for the competitions. Re home semi's etc, well rugby is controlled in the North so one expects everything to stack against the local SA teams, am sure they are used to it.
All well and good saying the European rugby is great, but it should be noted that SA has the quality game that won b2b world cups. Crazy talk saying their inclusion in European cup rugby should be in question, coming from a leinster fan.
Thank goodness there is some pre ample to the semi finals, diddle squat on TNT, rugby has some way to go promoting the showcase of European rugby COYS
another question during 6 nations france vs england what would have happened if during the false start a rec card offence occured!
i wanted to know which is the most successful player to win domestic/european/6 nations trophies EG prem, Champs, urc , top14 and 6 nations in the quiz
Uh Shane, they're hosting at croke park for a number of games and that news is 2 weeks old...
Last 10 are 9/10 Leinster W. Expecting the same this time.
This is the best rugby channel!!!❤
8 teams of 3 ..1 from each league..home and away...last 16 first home meets second away...bottom 8 challenge cup..sorted.
"Competition needs consistently good english teams" - Horgan of last 10 years of Heineken cup winners 5 French, 4 English and 1 Irish
The competition was turned on its head 10 or 15 years ago because the Irish won 5 out of 7. English and French sides won about 60% over the 17 years. With the new format, they are now up at 90% plus. No Welsh teams can even get into the tournament. No Italians and maybe the odd Scottish team.
I'd argue that the tournament is a mess because of this. Nobody in Wales, Scotland, or Italy will get on board when they don't even have a team in it to begin with.
The sides that they made way for. The middling English and French clubs decided they couldn't win it, so they don't bother and send B and C teams to places every year to get pumped. Montpellier losing 87 - 7 was a parody of elite rugby.
This, in turn, makes Toulouse and Leinsters job easier as teams roll out B or C teams against them, meaning they get high seeding.
Half of Leinster matches next year will be played at croke park due to r.d.s improvements
Is there any financial return for South African clubs participating? I know in the URC the deal for them entering was that they would receive zero revenue for a number of seasons.
They forgot Finaus brother...Isitolo Maka (he was same size as Trevor Leota)
champions cup should be much shorter and take place after the domestic league finals. It could include the 4 semifinalists from each tournament in a bracket form that only involves knockout games. the constant stop-start of URC, and 6N and champions cup so obviously kills any momentum that any one tournament can generate. for example, we have champions cup semis this wknd and then will have to wait three weeks to build up the excitement again. this would eliminate the need for sides to choose between the two, and fans getting the short end of the stick when a B team is rolled out for a champions cup or league game
These chats, good as they are, don't seem to touch on the relative number of games played by Irish, English and French clubs. Irish provinces have a massive advantage - they essentially rested their team last week while Saints couldn't.
They rested their team because they had already qualified. Most of Leinster players have paid 13 tests since last September
For the past 2 seasons, the URC has been great. The SA public have really taken more to it than the European Cup. That's the starting point to a conversation about their participation. I think the pundits are AngloFranco-Leinster centric & want to fashion it so. The EC early rounds is a joke. Talk about that pls. I'm not SA, but Irish. Enjoyable show other than that.

If leinster win 🥳🎉🥳🍹🍻.....if leinster lose 💔💔💔💔
overall....😎👌👌👌
😐
I would rather watch an Anglo-French cup. I just don't like franchise rugby.
As with here, I keep hearing Irish people tell me it is the pinnacle of NH rugby, and the English and French pundits agree, because they played in it. It matters to players because it is the top showcase of yourself. The majority of English supporters, and possibly the French, don't rate it over their domestic league, but our opinions don't seem to matter - except to our clubs, who know they can't ignore that.
If the sport wants to rejuvenate interest in the cup, bring back home/away, make it European again, and move the QF, SF, final to consecutive weeks the other side of the domestic finales, then everyone will have nothing to lose.
Who's this "Nianbar" Shaggy keeps referring to
Cant see Quins lasting 80 mins against huge Toulouse pack much as i like Quins to win.But the Saints could give Leinster a shock😊
Domestically we need a GB & Ireland League, and then in Europe an A and B level cup with France and Italy and the South Africans out of it.
Sa don't have a member on the epcr board. Hence they have to play in England
Shane. Your father was right.
You're the first player I saw putting lomu down.
So we have had a wander down memory lane where we totally ignored previous games between Leinster and Saints. There was more talk about La Rochelle than there was about Saints. Please if you are saying that this is a preview actually preview all four teams.
Saints went to Dublin in 2013. No one gave them a hope. But this group of pundits could barely remember Saints won with 14 in Thomond Park a few weeks ago.
Poor fare gentlemen.
A fully fit, rested Saints team could definitely win against Leinster. But with their injuries, and Leinster better preparation, they only have a punchers chance, sadly.
Am saints fan but no way we beat Leinster lol, it’s literally Ireland team
I would rather the Six Nations have the bottom placing side playing the winner of the Rugby Europe in a knockout game post both championships than SA joining. The main reasons are what have been mentioned in this, the jeopardy. Every game in the Six Nations would have more meaning to avoid that game whereas the Rugby Europe winners would have even more of a carrot for the chance to promote up. Just Adding SA increases the tournament length, we already have the Summer / Autumn internationals where teams can play these sides. Just to mention SA schedule for this; Wales, Ireland, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Scotland and England. Is there truly a need for them in the Six Nations?
the south african experiment has been fun, but why not a domestic league with just irish (4), english (7 or 9), welsh (3) and scottish (2) sides? better for player welfare, less costly travel logistics for teams, heaps more visiting fans, and it would give a new spark to the b&i lions tours. as an irish fan, i remain much more likely to watch saracens v quins rather than stormers v bulls. i doubt the english sides would have ever gone for this, until these last few financially disastrous seasons...
Does Horgan not know that Keenan is injured?
There’s rumours that Keenan and Gary Ringrose may be available for this game
@@ciaranbrk Well Ringrose and O'Brien are confirmed available for selection and trained fully with the team this week but Keenan is still in doubt.
Leinster should win as it's a semi final. However, if it was a quarter final they would bottle it yet again like their national team 😂😂😂😂
Toulouse did beat Quins at the stoop 47-19 in december........
the disrespect to Saints is horrid. Even in the choice of guests. Horgan is a bore ... me me me... and the lack of knowledge of their opponents is crazy. Leinster might be a good even great team but the analysis is rubbish.
I don’t think so. It’s a fair comment that Saints are massive underdogs
Just facts really. European rugby is massively skewed in favour of Leinster nowadays - 19 members of the Ireland squad, 10 of 13 central contracts - ridiculous.
@@robw7676sound very jealous, nothing preventing others copying leinster
@@robw7676not their fault
@robw7676 The reason why Leinster have so many players playing for Ireland is simply because they are the current best Irish qualified players, it really is that simple. If Munster , Ulster or Connaught players were better then they'd be in green as well.
Unpopular opinion I don’t like this set up, too many ‘remember when my team won XYZ’ reminiscing about old games - WG voice is dull, bring back the old format please, each of them as the occasional guest (esp Ben) are great but not as regular panel 👍 just my opinion ❤

Absolute bullshit ! Half decent team would beat SA not a hope another year without a trophy u
