You guys are so talented. Wow, you've really proven the high register at a professional level. How do you vibrato, and what's the secret to reaching high notes? For some reason, my jaw starts to burn a little bit when going higher. My goa, is to learn every instrument from a symphony orchestra. So far, I've learned all strings, and flute is like my 5th instrument. I hope to have you tips on becoming as good as you. I got to play a song in my brother's wedding. But, I won't be able to if I can't fix those problems in time.
Wow, that's amazing that you play so many instruments! Vibrato for the flute is actually developed through diaphragm exercises first, which is important because you don't want any tension in your throat. I work with my students to slowly develop their high notes using long tones. If there is a note that you are comfortable playing, start with that and play chromatic half steps slowly. You will develop the stamina to nail those high notes over time if you follow this through. Each day it gets a little better! Two other important things to remember with high notes on the flute is to make sure to use a lot of support with your air ( which means you need to take a good deep breath and manage the air well as you play), as well as staying really relaxed and open in your throat and mouth. High notes need to have a lot of resonance so they don't sound shrill or forced. I hope that helps and good luck!
