In this week’s vlog you’ll see my interview with Sascha Lappessen aka DJ Sash! Sash! is a project by German producers Sascha Lappessen, Ralf Kappmeier and Thomas Alisson. Sascha is the frontman of the group and he is also the one that travels around the world as a DJ.

Ecuador is still my favourite. I liked dance music before this, but Ecuador truly got me hooked

"Because it sounds shit!" - when asked why none of Sash! tracks feature German vocals! HAHAHAHAHA, honest and funny!
Let’s remember, it was the Futurebreeze remix that put Encore Un Fois on the map, the original wouldn’t have done so.
True. Although many of the later Sash tracks were quality if not better than it.
@@low3freq Yeah the original is pretty shite tbh. But in fairness to sash, unlike most artists, the penny really dropped for them because of the future breeze remix and they clearly realized what differentiated a hit record to a mediocre one. Most people would never change up their style because of a remix, but they did and they had some great follow up records. Ecuador, stay and adelante are incredible.
I did 2 interviews with Future Breeze a while ago BTW, we also spoke about their Sash! remix for a little bit ;-)

Last night with Sash! In Karlshamn, Sweden, "Hello 90s festival" was magic! Awsome gig! ❤ he played the big hits and many mix. He's awsome! Sash! Never stop produce good music!! 👍
I had tears in my eyes when I listened to Ecuador for the first time. This melody is so beautiful, it is still my favorite electronic song, 25 years later.
I think Sash Mysterious times and Robert Miles Children were my frist trance tunes in the mid to late 90s. Have been LOVING it since then

@@ricklocket2812 It's commercial/pop trance. I'd rather call this 'trance' that much of the garbage on Beatport that passes for trance nowadays.
I remember hearing "Encore une fois" on the radio somewhere in the nineties and me playing the song over and over again once my parents bought a CD that had the track on it. There are no songs of Sash! that i don't like.
Many people think the same, as was evident on a party that i went to where Sascha was performing (almost 10 years ago now).
In another 10 years i'll still like the tracks and would go to such a party again.
Sash! Songs were the soundtrack to my late teens/early 20’s, and I have to say they created so many really catchy dance songs. Lovely to see him so well. Thanks for the music.
Nice, fun interview. Good job. I miss his 90's style Eurodance and Euro trance sounds. I am glad I got to see and meet him last year at a festival in Belgium.
Sash! is one of the best producers in 90's - 00's. A legend of a dance music. My favorite songs are Stay and The Secret (original) but another are so good too. New songs of him would be fantastic in actual times.

I was 5 years old when I heard "Ecuador" for the first time. That track made me fall in love with dance music. Thank you Sash!
His track ecuador still plays in my headphones nearly every single day. And i have been skipped or changed track during playback in my life. In 20 years....

The popular version of 'Encore Une Fois' is actually the Future Breeze remix. The original is great too but probably would never have taken off like the FB mix did. I was a huge Sash! fan back in the day, really cool interview Twan!

Actually there was a follow up on Encore Une Fois with Sabine Ohmes screaming french words again :) , only that it went out as Encore - Le Didsc Jockey without Sasha but with other two guys and it was such a blast as well (i even got the maxi last week lol). Gimme Tonight with Vanessa was one of my all time favorites btw.

Nice interview with a nice DJ. I still enjoy most of his early single hits like "Just around the hills", "Stay", "Ecuador", "Encore une fois", "Mysterious times" and some more. It was very interesting to hear from the guy behind the music for the first time, because I never knew anything about him or that Sash! is really a three-person project. Also very cool that you were able to play original Sash! songs in the background. That worked really well. Nice job, looking foward to more interviews and stories. :)

I used to love Sash! back in the day. I always wondered why after they had so many UK Top 10 singles they suddenly stopped releasing music over here after their third album
There were 4 albums of "classic" Sash!. But it is most likely easy to explain- on one hand eurodance as a genre became unpopular, on the other hand the thing that made Sash! stand out - the one that Lapessen mentions in the interview - every new song being unique - was not really there in the last two albums with them featuring progressively weaker and similar sounding material. E.g. clearly it was a burn out.
@@wrmusic8736 I remember looking forward to hearing their new single 'Ganbareh' for the first time, and when I heard it I was massively disappointed. It was signed to Positiva in the UK but never got a proper release, and we didn't get the 'S4 Sash!' album either. I always wondered why but thinking about it, if fans like me didn't like it then it probably wouldn't have done well anyway so they left the UK market on a high rather than a decline.
Cool interview with one of my childhood heroes, Move Mania and Mysterious Times were my favorite tracks back in the days:) Very nice and humble person he seems. P.S. I also had a crush on Tina Cousins lol
First heard these guys back in school in the mid nineties when I was about 13. I'm now 36 and seeing this is bringing back a lot of good memories.

pizzicato is a preset on one of the Roland racks that came out in the mid 90s (I think it was JV1080) - that was the reason there's a similar sound but not the actual melody. In fact Faithless took Sash! to court over it and lost. Because again - preset was Roland's, lol. And everybody was overusing it to hell, just only two songs really got popular enough.

@@TheTanelChannel I focus more on dance related stuff. Plus I don’t have a travel budget for these interviews, so I can only do interviews with people that live nearby or people that visit for shows / gigs. This is “just” a hobby for me.
@@muzikxpress Oh, understood, I think you could do perfect short interviews through zoom recordings, could help you expand your channel too and get to more people. Just record the calls and edit later in post
@@TheTanelChannel all my 130 interviews here are done in person, I don’t do Zoom interviews, I really dislike those, I prefer interviews in person. If you check the pinned post on my Muzikxpress Facebook page you can see what I can and what I can’t do regarding interviews. These vlogs are a lot of work, so I’m pretty picky 😉

I remember meeting Sascha when he was doing a DJ set/PA (as Sash!) at Ikon nightclub in Bolton (United Kingdom) and he was such a top bloke, spent time chatting with us, had a beer and signed my shirt. Really enjoyed watching this one Twan.

I would like to know the reason of the title song Ecuador... I was an english language student living in Cambridge back in 1998 when I heard that song for the first time... And since I am from Ecuador, all my class mates where singing that song to me at the club on student nights... great memories!

So that is why Telstar decided to start Sum records and release Encore - Le Disc Jockey (basically doing themselves what they suggested to sash, 'please make a another carbon copy of Encore. Which, to be fair, did chart in the UK top 40 singles at 12.

He's made some amazing tunes, and comes across in the interview as a really nice guy. Of course I remember all the tunes, but never remember any interview, so its nice to hear from him all these years later. Also, like many other of the artists Twan is interviewing they are far more mature due to age so it makes the interviews far more interesting* ...... * Liam Gallagher would of course be the exception to the rule if he was to be interviewed by Twan ;-)

everyone knows it was the future breeze mix of Encore Une Fois that made that song as tje original sounded totally different. Even the official music video uses Future Breeze's version!

It's a pity that he didn't say more about the production process of their greatest hits.
I can guess that the ''pizzicatto'' sound that was used in 'Encore une fois' and many dance-trance tracks in 1996-97, comes from which Roland synthesizers like the XP50.

Thank you very much! Mark 'Oh is in The Netherlands this weekend, but he never replied to my request, so.... The other ones aren't playing in The Netherlands I think, so I don't see interviews with them happening I'm afraid. I can only do interviews with people that live close to me or people that visit The Netherlands, since I don't have a travel budget for the vlogs. But.... there are enough people on my wish list that live close or visit NL soon-ish ;-)

For my vlogs I'm looking for classics / hits that have been more well known worldwide. *Edit: Besides "Explode" of course, would love to do a vlog about that one, but he lives on the other side of Germany, which means this is not an option for me. I don't have a travel budget for the vlogs as I mentioned before.
