I was a pupil at Jeppe from 90-92 and got to witness James Dalton play and see Jake White create magic moments on the field. Then moved to Dale College from 93-95 and got to watch that unbeaten 93 team it all still brings back wonderful school boy memories. It sad the uphill struggle Grant Griffiths faced at Dale but no one can say he did not give it his best shot. Thanks for this video really enjoyed and you have earned a new subscriber from the UK.
What about Jos Labuschagne who coached Grey in the 80s and Dries joined in 84.?Jos coach the longest unbeaten schools team 86 to 91 Grey and large number of Springboks including Ruben Kruger, Pieter Müller, Naka, Ollie, Smiley, Charl Marais, Andries Truscott etc. He also moved Werner Swaenepoel from flyhalf to scrumhalf because he said you are a scrumhalf boet
Hi, I do agree with you that Skonk was the best. I had the privilege of being there before he retired. A rugby brain of note, ahead of this time. I left in 86, Grey's Bloem was definitely a good team in the late 80's. A great list.
You also left out Ingo Machts from Grey College, head coach 2009-2013 also part of the coaching staff since 2006 and a Grey College legend side by side Dries.
This commentator has to be Dale College Old Boy , lol Spilhaus and Griffen in one list. Spilhaus is a legend though till this day Dale, KES and now Jeppe.
As good as the 1996 Affies team was, they lost to a Kiwi school at the Kearsney festival that year. Had they kicked over all their penalties they could have won.
I think you've overlooked a couple of really great coaches but all in all a well rounded top 10! Skonk set the benchmark and wrote the "Bible" for school boy coaching so rightly deserved! The fact that we still speak about him today is testament to his legacy! Number 10 rightly so coach P is going places and is an asset to SA rugby - although I feel you failed to mention the impact Kevin Taylor had on Selborne Rugby with 2 stints as a 1st XV coach also countless Craven Week and SA Schools selections even a Bok or two, and an impressive record of results in the mid to late 90's and again from 2007-2017, not to mention a master in charge of two school sports Rugby and Rowing which in itself is pretty impressive (he would be ahead of Griffy in my books as a "coach" )
Damien Bradshaw very tough to put something like this together - and also very difficult to note who all the best coaches are, I often reach out to my community tab on TH-cam as well as chat to a few people involved in the game. But whatever list I do I will never have full consensus, but one advantage is that when I do these lists at least new names end up coming up
@@NextGenXV never easy and let's be honest everyone has an opinion. As mentioned yours is a dam fine list. Always like to think we could never reach for the stars without standing on the shoulders of giants.
If he didn’t go to Lions you really think he would have kept up with the winning rate? How did it go with his Glenwood stats and last year at Boishaai? Not so good, Wessel one coach that might be one of the best in this country.
iMike_ZA last year wasn’t the best but 3 unbeaten seasons on the trot is remarkable. Think he really could of built a dynasty there, Wessel is a great coach but remember what he’s working with as well. Cherries this year would likely be a top 10 team
NextGenRugga 🤔 what the hell is Boishaai working with? The 2017 Boishaai team got their asses saved by WP for buying Abner and Sean jumped on that as fast as possible.
iMike_ZA lol I just know better than to debate man, just my opinion clearly you have a different perspective - all good, more debate there is the more entrenched each side becomes in their viewpoint. I don’t mind discussions, debates not really my thing. You seem to know your stuff though, so look forward to you being able to contribute to making the content of the videos better in future
This is honestly one of the best rugby channels
• DYSTREX •17 appreciate it thanks

Was coach by Erasmus at u20 while he was at Glenwood. World class.
A good idea would be to make a video of your top 10 school rugby coaches right now.

Yes having grown up in KZN I've heard a lot about Skonk during my school days, a legend indeed..
Griffy gets some much needed recognition
Sihle Mashologu definitely deserves it

Someone to consider would be Ryno Combrink currently director of rugby at Paul Roos. He did wonders during his year's at Michael House in KZN.
I'm going to have to do another video for sure
Mike Wesson at Dale College in 1999 was amazing.
Just a thought! Where would Stoney Steenkamp fit in!
Mr Paul Anthony. Definitely!
You also left out Ingo Machts from Grey College, head coach 2009-2013 also part of the coaching staff since 2006 and a Grey College legend side by side Dries.
iMike_ZA like I said at start of video I would only choose 1 coach from each school, otherwise it would be stacked with Grey coaches
NextGenRugga not really Dries and Ingo basically and maybe one of the 1970-1980 coaches that are legends.
The lion of Lebanon was hard done by here, he has massive achievements outside of schhoolboy rugby and he coach the SA Schools and u19 sides for years
Meesh Nozigqwaba he’s back at Pretoria Boys so not eligible for this list.
@@NextGenXV but Spilhaus is at Jeppe?
Meesh Nozigqwaba video based on his work at KES
Coach P!!
What a coach !
Part 2: 11th to 20th
