The 330 uses a ZF because it's stronger, it will bolt up, but you will wear it out faster, the getrag is known to be weak, but I don't think 221lbs of torque will break it.
@@SavageBunny1 For sure g220 is much weaker than zf. But it should be fine for street driving, done 12,000ks on the g220 now, hopefully I get plenty more no issues!

Hello, greetings from Chile and thanks for your video. I have a 1992 e36 325i AT and want to do a transmission manual swap. Years ago, someone sold me a getrag transmission supposedly extracted from e36 318i. When I tested the car, the gear ratio was a mess, so I installed a 3.15 m3 differential, but I never managed to get the car to be well connected to the gears. I have read in many forums that show that the getrag gearbox of the e36 1.8i is the same as the e36 325i, but I have doubts about what I mentioned before. When reviewing technical information I could see that e36 325i uses 3.12 differential and getrag 250 gearbox and that of 318i is getrag 225 if I remember correctly. I don't want to use my car to run or drift, I just want a nice car that at times can perhaps enjoy its power a bit. In Chile there are not many e36 325i MT, therefore, getting an original used transmission is impossible, I can only buy the e36 318i. Can you give me your opinion on exchanging getrag for e36 318i? I also wanted to ask if the weight of the 318i and 325i flywheel influences when trading. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us.
gear ratios are very similar, the 325i uses a 3.15 diff and a 318i will have either a 3.45 or 3.38 diff stock while you auto diff should be a 4.10 or 4.45 if i remember correctly and yes it will be extremely short if you leave the auto diff. i have a 4.45 in my manual and it cuts out at about 160-170kmh
Clutch diameter are identical however friction plates are not. ZF always comes with 240mm friction surface where getrag comes with 228mm. That sensor is reverse light switch - speed sensor comes in diff.
Great video, man! A ton of usable information, a lot of ambiguity resolved! I was opting between RX8 and ZF box for my V6 Sierra and chose the nice fat ZF. Nice hat BTW :)
Great video , with my car i changed it from automatic to manual ,its a 320i e46 but i used the Getreg gearbox .the problem now is that the car cant angage gear number one at all either engine running or non running
Do you know if I can just directly bolt a ZF box from an E90 335 xDrive that has an N55 to my E90 328 xDrive that has an N52 without all sorts of coding issues etc? The gearbox from the 335 is capable of handling a lot more torque. Just wondering, should mine wear out, if I can't replace it with the stronger one?
I have a 330i auto. I have everything for Getrag 5 speed and want to do a swap. My issue rn is the driveshaft. I am curious if the front portion of getrag driveshat will mate up to rear portion of 330i auto.
Are the steptronic and regular automatic transmission in e46, e38, e39 physically the same? The only difference is the shifter wiring and the control module?
Hi, just checking at the output flange issue: Would it be possible to change the output flange from the Getrag to the ZF, so that a medium size guibo would fit? That way you could actually keep the original transmission. Am I right?
