    just to clarify those boxes will fit: m50,m52,m54,m40,m42,m43,m44 at least, maybe more, my friend runs a m40 flywheel and cutch on his m50b20 which is a easy and cheap solid flywheel conversion if you need it. oh and thats not a speed sensor on the getrag, its the reverse light, speed sensor is in the diff

      Getrag will also bolt up to S engines (s54, s52, s50) as well, obviously not advised but I know someone who runs them on a track car because they are so cheap to replace or rebuild vs the ZF

    It’s nice that BMW decided to use the same bolt pattern that way like in my case I got a zf on a 2jz and if in the future I want the 6 speed trans I could just swap it and use my existing clutch,flywheel, and adapter

    • @SavageBunny1
      @SavageBunny1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 330 uses a ZF because it's stronger, it will bolt up, but you will wear it out faster, the getrag is known to be weak, but I don't think 221lbs of torque will break it.

    Hello, greetings from Chile and thanks for your video. I have a 1992 e36 325i AT and want to do a transmission manual swap. Years ago, someone sold me a getrag transmission supposedly extracted from e36 318i. When I tested the car, the gear ratio was a mess, so I installed a 3.15 m3 differential, but I never managed to get the car to be well connected to the gears. I have read in many forums that show that the getrag gearbox of the e36 1.8i is the same as the e36 325i, but I have doubts about what I mentioned before. When reviewing technical information I could see that e36 325i uses 3.12 differential and getrag 250 gearbox and that of 318i is getrag 225 if I remember correctly. I don't want to use my car to run or drift, I just want a nice car that at times can perhaps enjoy its power a bit. In Chile there are not many e36 325i MT, therefore, getting an original used transmission is impossible, I can only buy the e36 318i. Can you give me your opinion on exchanging getrag for e36 318i? I also wanted to ask if the weight of the 318i and 325i flywheel influences when trading. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us.

    • @CraigDoesDrift

      It will fit. Gearing is personal preference. Get it working and drive it

    • @charlieward7606
      @charlieward7606 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      gear ratios are very similar, the 325i uses a 3.15 diff and a 318i will have either a 3.45 or 3.38 diff stock while you auto diff should be a 4.10 or 4.45 if i remember correctly and yes it will be extremely short if you leave the auto diff. i have a 4.45 in my manual and it cuts out at about 160-170kmh

  • @Savingwow

    Clutch diameter are identical however friction plates are not. ZF always comes with 240mm friction surface where getrag comes with 228mm. That sensor is reverse light switch - speed sensor comes in diff.

The gearbox from the 335 is capable of handling a lot more torque. Just wondering, should mine wear out, if I can't replace it with the stronger one?

      That’s about right. Seen loads lasting ages on m54b30 and there about 225bhp. I’d say the m54b30 is about the max limit.

      Gold nugget info thank you man ! I'm doing a manual conversion on my m54b30 and was searching everywhere if the getrag 250g could handle the torque . I think i will have to drive it with care then
