I have watched countless videos on storage accounts and never once did anyone ever demonstrate SAS in action. In 8.24 I learned more than the 5 hours worth of videos I watched before this. There is a special place in heaven for instructors like you :)

Well put. When I was reading official documentation, I thought," What is the difference between the regular SAS and the policy". Thank you so much for explaining.

Thank you Scott. Nowhere on the internet this concept is explained in detail, the way you explained.

The best explanation and demo I have seen on this topic. Short and to the point. Great work

Crisp, clear and to the point. Thank you for clarifying this. Microsoft's learning path's definition and explanations were too convoluted for me.

Is it just me or Azure GUI has changed making the provided instructions not quite right anymore?
When I go to click on "Storage Explorer (Preview)" I get instead "Storage Browser (preview)" which doesn't offer the option of clicking on "Get Shared Access Signature...". Instead I have to download separately "Microsoft Azure Storage Explorer" from which I can indeed click on "Get Shared Access Signature...".

Dear Scott, as of today I can't access Storage Explorer from Storage Account blade. I guess Storage Browser replaced it. When showing containers within said Browser, I can click on "Generate SAS". I can't select any access policy there (nor I can use it from container menu), how to tackle that problem?

This seems to only be possible through the API

One question- To access storage policy option in Azure Portal do we need additional role, as I am not able to access this for a container I own (with no public access)? Thanks for the great content!

can we able to access(download ) the file from the blob storage account even if the site is down??
In our scenario if the want to download the file they have to hit our application. so if its down can we able to download the file from the Blob storage account?? or can we able to download through curl command??

Can you please clarify whether you can use a SAS to access the whole storage account? It seems like you are only able to access certain resources with a SAS. On the other hand, it seems like a Stored Access Policy allows you to access the whole storage account.

SAS could be defined at Storage Account level or Individual Service level. So, to answer your question, you can use SAS to access the whole Storage account.
Stored Access Policy can be applied at individual service levels (not on the whole storage account).

They are always in control of this naming are they? You could very easily confuse this with immutable blob access policy, can't you?
