    You can avoid bubbles by wet applying the big sticker and using a credit card (or a rubber card with a sharp edge) to flatten it as you go. I find that some sort of transparent liquid hand sanitizer like the 1€ one from lidl works best.

    • @smirkingrevenge6
      @smirkingrevenge6 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Agreed... I always start on one edge, and use the credit card to push along the sticker as I lay it, and if you notive any bubbles you get the chance to do a small reset.
      My latest phone screen protectors are coming with a card with a soft foam edge which I'm now using as it just gives some extra protection 😊

    I would prefer more bikes in smaller scale/more of them more often to be honest. Those huge sets cost too much and also take a lot of time to assemble for an adult, so they're out of the question as a gift for an adult while the smaller ducati panigale and car transporter scale sports cars were ideal for gifts.

    The neutral spinning is due to the shaft the driving ring is on having some friction with the gears that are slotted on that axis. Even though these gears have pin holes instead of cross axle holes, there is still some friction which is what drives the engine in neutral when you first tested it. I've encountered this with gearboxes I've made for my creations too, but it's not a problem when the model is assembled I think.

    I'll stick with the smaller set. I really loved that build.
    I really like that size of motorcycles (Batcycle, BMW offroad traveller bike, older orange dirtbike).
    They are affordable and can be built in an enjoyable single session.
    Much like the Car Transporter size of cars, that I generally prefer over the 1:8 scale supercars.
    Those huge models are expensive, take too much time (Lego is an "inbetween work" hobby for me) and need too much space for display.
    (I occasionally rent one to build it just for the experience, but I don't "crave" them...)

    It seems like these new gearbox pieces greatly improved the friction in between the gears. For instance, in the bmw, (which I own), first gear has a significant amount of friction when turning the wheel. It really makes sense, considering the gearboxes are now less complex, and I really wonder what it would take to fit the Ducati gearbox into the bmw.

    In the US we normally just get plastic bags. Still after almost 5 years of reading Legos inserts about how we're getting paper bags.

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      To get these figures in order, LEGO has announced the plans to switch to paper bags in 2020. I saw the first samples in 2022, but until the end of last year most boxes here in Europe still had plastic bags. The paper bags appeared in larger quantities this year, but I still had a few sets this summer with plastic bags. I assume these were either made earlier or are not produced worldwide and come from a different factory.
      Switching to paper bags requires replacing the entire packaging machinery, they do it factory by factory, and apparently the US is among the last to switch. But that doesn't mean the switch isn't happening worldwide.

    I find the present that goes with Lego models above €150 or $150 is not fitted with many models. Ducati ‘lovers’ are not glad with the ballerine with nutcracker. I am thinking about buying the Endurance ship, that I dicovered too late to get the Shackelton Life boat that was a bonus for the first buyers. So now also the ballerina with nut cracker is replacing this life boat that would be a nice combination with the Endurance ship.

Ok, well the motorcycle has glow in the dark headlights and no really odd colored parts, right? Also no. Well, at least it has more functionality than the small version. Also no; it's just more bulky. Well, at least it's a good value for money. It's $200? F***, and the other one was $70. Yeah, don't buy this set. Lego is trying to make extra money on a "premium" set that is simply the $70 set, but bigger. Nothing really special about it to make it worth $200.

    I don't think the fact it uses the newer engine pieces is a plus. Those pieces are great for simulating a crankshaft at a smaller scale but in such a large motorcycle I would expect a proper crankshaft.

    • @RacingBrick

    • @JekPorkbricks

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JekPorkbricks I'm not sure how you expect the fake engine to power anything, both with the new and old parts. With the old tan crankshaft pieces you could only have 2 phases, now with the new ones you can have 4 positions.

    • @JekPorkbricks
      @JekPorkbricks 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@RacingBrick I just meant that in the new pieces the pistons are clipped to a rounded shape whereas in the old pieces the pistons are actually attached via technic holes and axles to a crankshaft, which is much more realistic for carrying over force despite both types of Lego engines obviously not actually being able to power a wheel. But if we are purely speaking visually then I guess having 4 positions is nicer when looking at the pistons from the outside.

    man, i get that this setup allows for a 90 degree bank angle in the engine, but using that cam gear for the crank, and a full two studs between cylinder is just wrong... I wish lego would do some more correct engine detail instead, why not use transparent cylinders and build up a detailed cylinder head, with a timing chain etc? Bonus points for cool manifold details etc...
    I was very much set on getting this set, but this serious regression in engine mechanics just bugs me, but designing a better engine will be hard with that big black frame right through the middle of it....

  • @WizardOfOss
    @WizardOfOss 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Very mixed feelings about the way that engine was built. I mean, I do get why they use those parts on smaller bikes (I do have the Kawasaki too), and for those I'm perfectly fine with it. But for this big scale, why not just use cranks? Wasn't Technic about replicating real mechanisms? It's just unneccessary....
    Overall, looks nice, but I'll stick with the smaller ones. Sure, these big ones look impressive, but with a 3rd gear as the only functional difference and at 3-4 times the price, I just don't see the value here. And that even the 1x1 tile gets a sticker only adds insult to injury. Premium price, budget quality.
    In that regard I'm also curious about that brown bag for the instructions, how much protection will that offer?

    It's unusual that this Ducati set is actually a bit less costly than the Yamaha set, especially in a world where the prices of things are going up constantly and rapidly.
    It looks great but it's not what I'll go for, even with a hefty discount. I already have the big BMW bike and the older smaller Ducati.
