A sandwich has two slices of bread (or biscuits in an ice cream sandwich) with filling - three slices with two separate fillings is a 'Club' sandwich. Double cut rolls also have two lots of filling...simple. I have noticed that the US tends to pull anything similar into one category; a cup can be anything from a tea cup to a crystal glass.. And yes I am a spelling and grammar nazi too! Etymology is very interesting , how the language changes, some would say degraded, over the years.🙂
