There were a few books that made my heart sink because my favourite characters died and I was absolutely heartbroken. Sirius Black's death affected me a lot, Poirot's death just made me feel awful. D'Artagnan's death in the Man in the Iron Mask just left my heart in the pages of the book... And Britannicus from one of my favourite Arthurian retellings just tore my heart out of my chest, ripped it into pieces, and then pulverized in a blender. Now, that character death was one I never recovered from.
I read A Monster Calls a bit young, accordingly I didn't fully comprehend what was happening, so it didn't have the same emotional impact on me. I might reread it.
I sobbed at the end of The Nightingale. It was so good. Another book that made me cry was Les Miserables. I loved this video today. Thanks for the reminders and suggestions.
I read a book in the summer before fourth grade I checked out from the library. I'd never gotten emotional from reading a book before, but the writing had me in tears. I touched my face and realized I was crying. The first book to get a reaction like that. Unfortunately, I don't remember the title but I'll never forget the impact it had on me. Books don't usually make me cry, but every once in a while there's some that tug at my heart strings.
Hailey at the beginning of the video: "Personally, I don't really cry a lot reading books" Hailey at 7:30: "Another one of my favorites of all time, so I just like books that make me cry, I guess"
I hardly cry in books too. However, the following are hard-hitting books: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera, All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. 📚
the ending of monday's not coming by tiffany d jackson (idk if i wrote her name right) made me sob, i also cried while reading all the books in the darkest minds series by alexandra bracken (yes during every book)
Yes yes Second Chance Summer! I read it years ago, and I had to contact my father who was away that time to cry and I told him that I miss him and I want him to come home. 😢
I don't cry when reading, but as somebody who reads first hand accounts of the Holocaust, I have gotten really upset. Most survivors get into detail about their lives and families in their books, and once I hear the experiences what these poor people had to go through. There was one book I was reading that detailed the moment that the survivor witnessed the death of her mother at the hands of the Nazis... And that hit me really hard. But I hate Holocaust fiction with every fiber of my being, and refuse to pick up anymore in the genre. I did cry after reading Sarah's Key, but it wasn't because I was heartbroken over the character's experience, it was sheer rage at the knowledge I bought a book that I absolutely hated.
I cried so much after I finished The nightingale by Kristin Hannah. 😭😭 That book was soooo good. Thankyou such for such a wonderful recommendation. I have read few of the books mentioned in the list but I am excited to read others. Also, you look so pretty in this❤
I sat on a bench and sobbed at the end of A Monster Calls. Even tweeted Patrick Ness to tell him he made me cry. He replied to say that everyone needs a good cry sometimes. Its one of my favourite books of all time.
The book that has made me cry the most ever is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Absolutely heart-wrenching throughout most of the entire book, but so so good.
Just today finished The Astonishing Color of After based on a previous video where you made this recommendation. Thank you thank you thank you! Such a beautiful story.
Books also don't make me cry a lot. But so far every Kristin Hannah book I read made me cry. I read the Nightingale, the Great Alone and Firefly Lane by her. Also Daisy Jones & The Six by TJR and the Silent Waters by Brittainy C. Cherry made me cry. And the following two books entirely made me cry and broke my heart. I never cried so much like reading A little Life by Hanya Yanagihara and Dancing on Broken Glass by Ka Hancock. These two books still haunt me today. I can't forget them. If a book makes me cry, I know it's good. In a book it's more difficult to transport emotions than in a movie. Because of this reason those books are special to me.
I have read the book thief and the boy in the stripped pajamas both of these books made me cry . And the thousand splendid suns is also in my list 🥺. Loving your recommendations 💖
Astonishing color of after was so beautifully heartbreaking and written so well 💕 I just finished Funny Kind of Paradise by Jo Owens and I cried as well!!
I easily cry on books that really does a good job at connecting with my personal struggles. Such a great list, Hailey! Cemetery Boys is definitely an enjoyable ride ❤️
I cried at they both die at the end but I feel like even more people cry at history is all you left me so I need to read that. I also didn’t super cry at the song of achilles but I was kind of spoiled for the end....
I am planning to read the book thief this summer. My mom bought it for me the prvs year with couple of other tear jerking war books and I haven’t read it ye. Wish me luck!
I am a very emotional reader! I cried reading The Nightingale as well! I cry reading every Karen Kingsbury book I swear! I also have cried at quite a few Jodi picoult books! I also cried reading Rachel Lippinscott books haven’t read one that hasn’t made me cry. Boy in the stripped Pajamas and they both went left I cried so hard! Same with Hannas Suitcase!
I finished Cemetery Boys a few days ago and it was the first book to make me cry in a long time. I’ve also read A Monster Calls, The Book Thief and TFIOS but none of them made me cry. Some parts of TFIOS even made me laugh.
I’m currently reading the nightingale…wish me luck🙏🏼🙃 also the book where I cried the most is definitely clockwork princess, that ending tore me to pieces🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 also recently I read Crescent city, there’s a few super sad scenes that had me balling😮💨
I'm only 10 and I really don't like sad books or movies - or even people telling me about sad things that happened to them because I get too sad! but I'll tell my mom to watch this vid because she loves sad movies and books. great video!
The ending of Second Chance Summer made me cry so much. The saddest book I’ve read is A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole. I listened to the audiobook of it, and I’ve never cried so much about a book ever. From the very beginning, that story broke me.
Nothing has broke me more than reading "The infernal devices" .... And I will certainly never read them again 'cause I just can't take it again. Must read tho✨
So far, the only book that has ever made me cry is the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. It wasn't at the end. It was a specific part where something that happened early in the book came full circle. That's all I can say. It was so beautiful. I WANT to cry at more books, so thank you for making this video. Here are some books that I think are beautiful and that made me very emotional and might make some people cry: We'll Fly Away by Bryan Bliss, Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman, The Boy in the Black Suit by Jason Reynolds (and also everyone should read that book whether they want to cry or not because it sends a powerful message about grief and how in particular, Black boys are allowed to feel feelings and, in general, everyone's allowed to feel feelings, and it's okay to cry), Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson, and All the Rage by Courtney Summers.

I only cry at the end. I will feel completely fine throughout the entire thing until the end. The main characters significant other could be abused at home, depressed, cutting, and anorexia and stuff. They could commit suicide, but I would not cry until the end. I think it’s because I hope it gets better before it ends, it never does. I don’t know why i keep hoping it gets better.
When I tell you I was an absolute mess while reading the Book thief I am not exaggerating at all. Somehow it's one of my go-to reads tho? I read it religiously every single year, will I ever stop crying every time I read it? Doubtful
