what a joy! God's creation from just a little egg in a few weeks… Amazing! Truly, our Provider. The rain on the tin roof so relaxing/mesmerizing. Thanks for taking us there with you for that REAL farm experience.
Hi Hollis and Nancy, great to see the youngsters get into their new mansion hutch. So beautifully built, that thing! I do miss quail now that I see yours. I'm going to build a sand box for my chicken run. Thanks for sharing your experiences! And Nancy, your hair looks fabulous, woman!!
Florida really agrees with you two! You guys look great o so do the quail. I really enjoy your videos especially the way you treat each other. God bless from Pà.
Everything looks so clean which is important for their health. Do they need grit in their food like the chickens if they are not picking food off the sandy soil outside?
Hey Hollis, Get you a metal pie pan to sit their food in. The pie pan will catch a lot of the food and save you tons of money in feed. That's how I have mine set up. Your quail look great.
You have my kiddo trying to convince us to let her have some...however we rent and not allowed... that being said she's all over you tube.... Rubbermaid tubs with holes cut out... they poke heads in to get food but don't knock it out.... saves a ton of $$ in feed so she has learned....
Are there people that just down thumb videos all day long without watching them? Why the 4 unlikes?? Kinda like Batman's butler once said, "Some men just want to watch the world burn.".
@@HollisNancysHomestead I understand just making sure others were not confused if they happened to see my comment cuz some ppl want to know these things 😉 love ur vids!
The growth rate is unbelievable!! Am interested in learning how you decide culling for egg and flock production, and meat, to get to a point of self reliance. TYFS, Stay Safe and Well Mark and Rosa
I keep my layers for about 18 months then I replace them to keep a good genetic line. The ones I cull out for meat are ready for harvesting at 5-6 weeks. I do about 4 cycles of meat birds in the spring which gives us enough quail meat for a year. Me and Nancy typically eat 6 quail per meal. Some folks eat more. We get a lot of eggs when we are not incubating them which we boil and pickle. I personally love the pickled eggs. I also scramble them. Very tasty👍
Quite a few years ago I raised two types of quail. I was part of a family of hunters and the wild quail was so much better tasting than the caged birds. I gave them up after a few years and even though I keep chickens, I'm not inclined to keep quail anymore. The eggs are good but it takes about 5 to have as much as a chicken egg. Hopefully you will find them very good table birds. I probably would have liked them more had I not had the wild birds for comparison.
Been watching since Va glad to see you getting into chickens and quail . check out Coturnix Corner great advice and knowledge I think you will like him
How do you tell the difference between a male and female with these birds...with hens and roosters chickens it's easy but these all look exactly the same ....
I love how they took to the sand, so naturally. How old are quail when they are ready to butcher ? I love quail breast and have bit into many a bb's, not so good. Lol thank you
Hi! When you say cull them out for meat, do you process them yourselves? How big do they need to be for a meal? They look so small. Last question 😉, why quail and not chickens?
Yes, we process them ourselves. It is a very simple procedure. We have a video scheduled for release on that in a couple of weeks. They are ready for harvesting at 5-6 weeks old. Me and Nancy usually cook 6 for a meal for the two of us. We also have chickens. We only have layers now but we are getting our homestead set up to raise and process meat chickens as well
I love how everything you do is very good quality. Looks like Binbin will like play partner, just saying. God bless you.

Wow, you both are awesome! 😃
Did you raise your chicken's the same way??
How do u tell male from female
Females will have a spotted upper chest, males will have a solid tan chest, no spots at all on the chest.
The significant question here is, What are you feeding your quail?
Hi protein game bird feed
Not water, but wate
