  • Please watch: "The ONE Thing Every Christian Should Be Doing But Most Are NOT!"
    • The ONE Thing Every Ch... -~-
    HOOK: This hole and this little red thing inside this hole gets us in more trouble than any other part of our body. So, how do we control it? That’s what we’re gonna talk about today.
    INTRODUCTION:
    Hey what’s up everyone welcome back to the BEAT. Today we are talking about how to control our mouth (the same advice goes for our communication on Facebook too). And in James 3 the Bible gives us some very practical advice on how to tame our tongue.
    #1 - Be AWARE of the PITFALLS
    James says we ALL stumble in MANY ways and ANYONE who says they are not at fault is PERFECT. The reason why we ALL struggle with our mouth is because there are so many different ways we can sin with our tongue.
    Slander, gossip, lie, complaining, critical spirit, cursing, exaggerate, discourage, curse, not following through, dirty jokes, outbursts of anger (aka “go off on folk”), half-truths, sarcasm, boasting, complaining, etc.
    And so James says because there are so many ways we can STUMBLE we should be mindful of how our mouths can be used to tear someone down.
    #2 - Be INTENTIONAL and Speak positivity - Notice here by using the illustration of a horse to illustrate how something small can a very to make a HUGE positive impact.
    One of the reasons why this is so critical is because when you praise and encourage people you earn the right to correct them when they are wrong. TRUTH is best received when TIME is invested and TRUST is established and one of the ways of doing this is to be known as an encourager; someone who makes small deposits into people’s lives over time by encouraging them, complimenting them, offering constructive criticism designed to make them a better person and add value to them. And so for many of us because it’s not our nature we need to be INTENTIONAL about speaking LIFE into other people’s lives.
    #3 - Be CAUTIOUS and THINK before you SPEAK - James says, “consider” or “think about” the fire you could start simply by not filtering what comes in your mind so that it doesn’t come out of your mouth. (Some people have no filter between their mind and their mouth.) I want to encourage you to use this acronym on a daily basis (maybe even a minute by minute basis depending on how bad it is) before you prepare to blast this person with venom. This acronym alone will help many of your relationships thrive.
    T - Is it TRUE?
    H - Is it HELPFUL?
    I - Is it INSPIRING
    N - Is it NECESSARY?
    K - Is it KIND?
    Just this acronym alone will save us a world of trouble in our relationships.
    #4 - BE GENTLE and Check your Tone - v. 6 - James says here our tongue has the power to “stain the whole body” (ESV) - Wedding dress Illustration: Many of us have really good things to say but it’s never received by others because what we’re saying is not packaged right. People will hardly notice the dress because their focus will be on the stain. Prov. 15:1 - “A soft answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Our presentation immediately turns people off so that people don’t receive what we’re saying.

    Amen! The tongue is small, but is quick to do damage. Be quick to listen, and slow to speak!

    The real problem is more than our tongues but our minds. Sin starts in the mind, I guarantee you that if we teach our minds on the word of God more likely most things we say will be in line with his words. Alot of times we say thinks because the movies we watch, the music we listen to. Even the foods we eat can affect our minds. Most people I believe is easily influence, in this case try and hang out with good people mostly. But most importantly pray because without prayers nothing that we do will make sense.

      Explain the food part?

    • @jaxmom09
      @jaxmom09 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NarrowPath_7 so much of the food we eat is complete garbage (at least in the USA) and the chemicals and additives wreak havoc on our bodies and minds. Think about it: how do you feel after a few days of nothing but sugary, highly processed junk food and soda? Your mind is sluggish and your body feels lousy. But after a few days of eating nothing but natural whole food and water you feel completely different! You're more likely to make poor decisions and be mean and nasty because you aren't getting proper nutrition. Generally speaking of course.

    • @NarrowPath_7
      @NarrowPath_7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaxmom09 oh like that you meant. Well thankfully I'm not from the USA.

    • @jaxmom09
      @jaxmom09 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NarrowPath_7 you can find that kind of food all over the world, not just the USA. It's just not normalized and pushed to be eaten daily as hard as it is here. That kind of food is far more convenient and easy to find for the average person here who's always on the go, plus it seems much cheaper.

    GOD BLESS YOU ALLEN! I really really needed to hear this. I realize this is one of the BIGGEST sins that I struggle with. And it is the cause of a lot of my relationship problems. I believe it comes from the family I grew up in, where everyone just screamed at each other and belittled one another. It truly was toxic, and I subconsciously picked it up. NOT an excuse, but it helps to understand why I am the way I am.
    I will pray that God will help me through this with the Holy Spirit.
    Thank you so much Allen!

    Thank you so much for this! I actually teared up reading those "Top 4 Scriptures" at the end. It never ceases to amaze me how the Bible was written during a world so different from our current generation, but how it is still so accurate about how we should live out daily lives. The Bible does not "offer good advice" that's helpful for a lot of people, it literally gives us the perfect foundation upon how we MUST live our lives. There is simply no other way to do it, there is the right way and numerous wrong ways and the Bible gives us the only right way.
    I can't thank you enough for your T.H.I.N.K. acronym, I'll be posting that all over my home!

    I clicked on this because I need help taming my tongue. It has hurt some feelings of lately. Not knowing the implications that it may have on someone. Even though I say I’m sorry, and they may forgive me. These people will never forget. Now I can’t help but think about what I said every time I see these people. I guess this is god showing me humility.

    • @jaxmom09
      @jaxmom09 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While we are absolutely forgiven for our sins, unfortunately they can have life-long consequences. God will of course forgive us and so often will the people we hurt, but He doesn't always spare us of the repercussions. We must be very careful with our tongues; it's wonderful that you recognize that you need help, I'm here rewatching this for the same reason. I hope that you've made a lot of progress and are doing much better! Check out Dr. Charles Stanley's sermons called "The Danger of Anger", Wretched Radio has fantastic videos on anger too if that's the cause of your words.

You are right, as a Christian I'm supposed to bring light and love into people's lives not blast them and spit venom about them, especially behind their back. I will definitely watch this video repeatedly. Well explained (i.e., good use of YOUR tongue!!) and practical. I'm going to take the THINK acronym and write it down both in card and poster size so I can remind myself about the way to speak wisely. I'm also going to study my Heavenly Father's word about the pitfalls of an untamed tongue vs. the benefits a godly one. Thank you for this excellent, straightforward teaching and advice. Especially appropriate for an age when far too often I/we put my/our thoughts out on blast without considering the consequences, both in this life and eternally.

    I needed to hear this, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. When I was young and I would try and speak up it would become a tounge twister or I would have trouble getting across what I was trying to say.not to mention being called stupid? Retarded? Dumb? Every name in the book. So I reached a point where I thought I'm better staying quiet. But I still had a lot to say just never said it. Know I'm speaking out and it tends to get me in hot water. Not only that? But those closest to me rarely take me seriously because they just look at my past even when I know I'm right. I can give them any sort of factual information and they come back every time with. Who said that? Where did you hear that?and if I don't remember who said it? What time they said it? What day they said it? Or word for word? It's invalid

    I agree and disagree. We live in an age where people hold their feelings on their shoulders. People choose to remember what they want to remember about you. There have been times where what a person has said to me has really hurt me at the time BUT God has turned it around for my good. There have been times when I say an encouraging word to someone, and he or she just throws it down. I think that sometimes, it also has to do with how the other person is receiving what you say. Yes, I agree that we should be gentle, BUT that does NOT guarantee that the person still not get offended. These days, people are easily offended by even the slightest compliment.

    Thanks for posting this brother. I really needed to be reminded of what the Word of God says about the tongue! I have a lot of hard work ahead of me but I want to change. Thanks again for being a blessing!

    I love this video, but my biggest struggle is I'm suffering from some health issues and my hormones are controlling my attitude. I feel terrible all the time and its making my life so hard to keep this hole in my head shut.

    I remember hearing years ago that "the mouth is made for two purposes, eating and praising God!" And Yes, one can praise God while kissing the one He has placed our lives. Praise Jesus, He is coming soon.

    I'm having problems with controlling my anger I'm always snapping on people for the littlest things especially when people is coming in my house stealing from me that makes me snap even though they be lying saying they didn't do it when I have witnessed them doing it and it's just so hard for me to set boundaries down when they keep stepping on my boundaries so I snapped and I explode and I'm the bad person so how do I deal with people like that that don't care and then look at you like the angry black woman when you do something back I feel like I'm unworthy of God definitely I know God is not pleased with me because I can't control my anger or my hands and I come here today so y'all can pray for me 🙏🙏🙏😔

    I'm such a dick and so blunt and I try so hard not to be that way. It's just the word's fly out of my mouth before I have a chance to think about it. I've said some things that were so rude that it makes my head hurt thinking about it.

      Hey King, we all have. The great thing is that God has grace and usually the people around us do as well. The key is not to focus on your past, focus on how you can make changes to improve moving forward.

    What if our friends and us use roasting as like a love language? I mean we only pick on each other because we know we’re only teasing and we treat everyone else respectfully. After hearing this once I tried to treat my very best friend with respect and she ended up crying thinking she had done something wrong.
