  • My Eclectus is 2 yeara old and has been talking for a year now. His name is Dobby. Chittering starts about 1 minute in. He's just content and sleepy.

They look 10 times cuter when they sit like that, hiding their legs 😘

Eclectus are foodies so they tend to get pudgy. Helps that fuzzy tummy to cover those legs!

So beautiful. So is he loud? I'm interested in this breed versus Alexandrine or Indian Ringneck. Some say Eclectus are loud. The males are beautiful, but I just love the red of the females, since red is my favorite color.

I have an Eclectus and originally wanted an Alexandrine or Indian Ringneck. I talked with many breeders before deciding. So happy with my decision.
Ringnecks and Alexandrines can be nippy. I wanted a cuddler. All parrots can be loud but Eclectus are generally considered to be quieter than most.
      Eclectus pros:
      - Good talkers
      - Not generally one person birds
      - Mostly quiet
      - Sweet-natured
      - Easily trained
      - Highly intelligent
      - Not excessive chewers
      - Least messy bird I’ve owned- but all birds are messy
      Eclectus cons:
      - Diet! Require commitment to fresh chop daily. They have longer digestive tracts so require more roughage, less fat, less sugar
      - Eclectus don’t do well in a noisy, chaotic environment
      Eclectus oddities
      - develop VERY slowly- like a human baby
      - eat VERY slowly
      - get the zoomies kinda like a dog
      - don’t like their head rubbed like most parrots- maybe due to the fine hair-like feathers on the head

Female Eclectus tend to be very independent, so if you want more of a bonded cuddler, go for the male- I did!

At nearly 2 years old, my male Eclectus is the most quiet parrot I have owned. They CAN be loud if they want, but my guy spends most of his vocal time practicing words. I do play speech training videos for him 😊
(cockatiel, cockatoos , conures, lovebird, budgie) The only more quiet bird I’ve had was a feral pigeon.

In the wild they have far too many girlfriends.

Actually, in the wild, the girls tend to date around. Some say more males= better guarantee of being fed while she is nesting.
